Battery, power
Camera does not work even if the camera is turned on.
Camera switches off as soon as the camera is turned on.

Recording
Cannot record pictures. ●Built-in memory/card is full. →  Free space by deleting unwanted pic tures (→55).
 ●You may not be able to record for a short while after turning this unit on when using a large capacity 
card.
Recorded pictures look white. ●Lens is dirty (fingerprints, etc.). →  Turn the camera off, retract the lens barrel and gently wipe the lens surface with a soft dry cloth.
 ●Lens is foggy (→7).
Recorded pictures are too bright/too dark. →  Adjust the exposure  (→82). ●[Min. Shtr Speed] is set to fast speed. Check the setting  (→149).
Some pictures are taken when I press the shutter button just once. ●Camera is set to use [WB Adjust.], [Auto Bracket] or [Burst]. ●Is the Self-Timer (→86) set to [10s / 3pictures]?
Focus not aligned correctly. ●Not set to mode appropriate for distance to subject. (Focus range varies according to recording 
mode.)
 ●Subject outside of focus range. (→101) ●Caused by jitter or subject movement.  (→28)
Recorded pictures are blurred. The stabilizer function ineffective. ●Shutter speed is slower in dark locations and the stabilizer function is less ef fective. →

Recording (continued)
Brightness or coloring of recorded picture different from real life. ●When recording under fluorescent or LED lighting fixture etc., increasing the shutter speed may 
introduce slight changes to brightness and color. These are a result of the characteristics of the light 
source and do not indicate a malfunction.
 ●When recording subjects in extremely bright locations or recording under fluorescent lighting, LED 
lighting fixture, mercury lamp, sodium lighting etc., the colors and screen brightness may change or 
horizontal striping may appear on the screen.
Horizontal streaks appear on the LCD monitor during recording. ●This is characteristic of MOS sensors which serve as the camera’ s pickup sensors. It appears when 
the subject has a bright part. Some unevenness may occur in the surrounding areas, but this is not 
a malfunction. It is recorded in pictures or motion pictures.
 ●It is recommended that you take pictures while taking care not to expose the screen to sunlight or 
any other source of strong light.
Motion picture recording stops midway. ●Depending on the type of the card, recording may stop in the middle. ●If recording stops even when using a card of the recommended speed class  (→23), the data writing 
speed has dropped. If this happens, we recommend backing up the data on the memory card and 
formatting it (→73).
Panorama picture recording stops before finishing. ●If the pan motion of the camera is too slow, the camera assumes that the operation has been 
aborted and stops recording. 
 ●If the pan motion of the camera is too shaky when it is moved toward the recording direction, the 
camera stops recording.

o record panorama pictures, pan the camera in a small circular motion parallel to the recording 
direction at a speed of approx. 8 seconds per revolution (guideline).
Object seems to be warped. ●Object seems to be warped slightly when the object moves across the image very fast, but this is 
because the unit is using MOS for the image sensor. This is not a malfunction.
The subject seems to be shaking. ●The subject may seem to be shaking when you record motion pictures using high zoom 
magnification because the unit is using MOS for the image sensor . This is not a malfunction. 
We recommend using a tripod and self-timer when you record motion pictures using high zoom 
magnification.
Zoom does not operate properly. ●Is the [Conversion] (→154) set to [  ] or [   ]?
Subject cannot be locked. (AF tracking not possible) ●Set the AF area to the distinctive color of the subject if there is a part that is different from the 
surrounding color.

Lens
Recorded image may be warped, or nonexistent color is surrounding the subject. ●It is possible that the subject may be warped slightly, or the borders get colored, depending on 
the zoom magnification, due to the characteristics of the lens.  Also, the peripherals of the image 
might look warped because the perspective is enhanced when the wide angle is used.  This is not a 
malfunction.
LCD monitor/Viewfinder
Pictures do not show on the LCD monitor. ●The camera is set for viewfinder display. →   Press [L VF] button and switch to LCD monitor display.
Brightness is unstable. ●Aperture value is set while shutter button is pressed halfway. (Does not affect recorded picture.)  
This symptom may also occur when the brightness changes because the zoom is operated or the 
camera is moved. This is the automatic aperture operation of the camera and is not a malfunction.
Monitor flickers indoors. ●The LCD monitor may flicker for a few seconds after turning on.  This is an operation to correct 
flicker caused by lighting such as fluorescent lights, LED lights etc. and is not a malfunction.
Monitor is too bright/too dark. ●[Monitor Luminance] is activated.  (→63) ●Use [Monitor Display] / [Viewfinder] to adjust the brightness of the LCD monitor. (→63)
Black, red, blue and green dots appear on the LCD monitor. ●This is not a fault, and will not be recorded on the actual pictures.
Noise appears on the LCD monitor. ●In dark places, noise may appear to maintain the brightness of the LCD monitor . This does not affect 
the pictures you are recording.
Cannot switch between the LCD monitor and viewfinder when pressing [L VF] button. ●When it is connected to a computer or printer, the camera can display pictures on the LCD monitor 
only.

Flash

 ●Is this a folder or picture which was processed in the PC? If so, it cannot be played back on the 
camera.

Folder/file number displayed as [-]. Picture is black. ●Is this a non-standard picture, a picture which has been edited using a PC or a picture which was

Picture display takes a lot of time during Multi Playback. ●When you have many pictures that were edited with [Resize], [Retouch], etc., it may take several 
minutes for all pictures to be displayed during Multi Playback.
Incorrect date displayed in Calendar Search. ●Picture edited on computer or taken on different device. ●[Clock Set] is incorrect (→27).
(Incorrect date may be displayed in Calendar Search on pictures copied to a computer and then 
back to this unit, if computer and camera dates differ.)
White round spots like soap bubbles appear on the recorded picture. ●If you take a picture with the flash in a dark place or indoors, white round spots may 
appear on the picture caused by the flash reflecting particles of dust in the air . This is 
not a fault. A characteristic of this is that the number of round spots and their position 
differ in every picture.

Blacken red areas of recorded pictures. ●When digital red-eye correction ([], []) is operating, if a subject is recorded that has skin-
colored areas with red areas inside, the digital red-eye correction function may blacken the red 
areas.

Motion pictures taken by this camera cannot be played in other cameras.  ●Even if a device is compatible with AVCHD and MP4, the motion pictures that were recorded on this 
unit may have bad picture quality or sound quality upon playback, or may be unable to be played 
back. Also, there might be a case that a recording information does not display correctly.
TV, computer, printer
No image appears on TV. Image blurred or not colored. ●Not connected correctly  (→183). ●The television has not been switched to auxiliary input. 
TV screen display different to LCD monitor. ●Aspect ratio may be incorrect or edges may be cut off with certain televisions.
Cannot play motion pictures on TV. ●Card is inserted into TV. → 
 Conn ect with AV cable (optional) or HDMI mini cable and play on camera  (→183).
Picture is not displayed on full TV screen. →  Check [TV  Aspect] settings (→71).
No sound is output from the camera speaker. ●When the AV cable (optional) or HDMI mini cable is connected to the camera, no sound is output
