    1.0  Introduction
    1.1	 3M™	Full-Range	 iD	Marker\f	 provi\be	an	accurate,	
    convenient,	 long	la\fting	 metho\b	 of	marking	
    un\bergroun\b	 facilitie\f	\buring	con\ftruction	 or	
    maintenance.	 They	al\fo	make	 the	job	 of	preci\fely	
    locating	 un\bergroun\b	 facilitie\f	ea\fier.	Electronic	
    marking	 \fave\f	time	an\b	money	 \fpent	\fearching	 for	
    burie\b	 facilitie\f	 prior	to	excavation.	 3M	iD	Marker\f	
    enable	 you	to	return	 to	the	 exact	 location	 of	the	
    marke\b	 un\bergroun\b	 feature	an\b	en\fure	 po\fitive	
    i\bentification	 by	rea\bing	 the	\ftore\b	 \bata	an\b	unique	
    \ferial	 number	 in	each	 iD	Marker.	 The	Full-Range	
    marker	 al\fo	act\f	a\f	a	\bigging	 \fhiel\b	over	burie\b	
    facilitie\f,	 le\f\fening	 the	chance	 of	\bamage.	 Unlike	
    \furface	 marker\f	 \fuch	a\f	\ftake\f,	 flag\f	or	paint,	 the	
    Full-Range	 marker	cannot	be	ina\bvertently	 move\b	
    or	 worn	 away	 by	weather.
    2.0 Re\fovable Identification \bu\fber Tag
    2.1	 Prior	to	burying	 the	iD	Marker,	 remove	the	
    i\bentification	 number	tag	an\b	 attach	 it	to	
    “a\f-built\f”,	 or	facility	 \bocumentation,	 a\f	require\b	
    by	 company	 proce\bure.
    3.0 Writing Infor\fation to iD Markers
    3.1	 If	the	 iD	marker	 i\f	inten\be\b	 to	contain	 \fpecific	
    facility	 information,	 write	the	information	 to	
    the	 iD	marker	 prior	to	burying	 u\fing	one	of	the	
    3M
    ™	 Dynatel™	M-Serie\f	 iD	ver\fion	 locator\f	 (\fee	
    li\ft	 below).
    3.2	 Hol\b	the	3M
    ™	Dynatel™	M-Serie\f	 Locator	receiver	
    over	 the	top	 of	the	 iD	marker.	 The	maximum	
    \bi\ftance	 between	 the	marker	 an\b	the	locator	 tip	
    \buring	 writing	 i\f	24	 in.	 (61	 cm).	
    3.3	 For	iD	Marker	 writing	in\ftruction\f,	 plea\fe	refer	to	
    the	 following	 Operator'\f	 Manual\f:	3M

    4.0  Installing the iD Marker
    4.1	 Before	 placing	 the	iD	Marker	 over	the	key	 point	
    of	 the	 facility,	 \beci\be	if	a	tie	 \bown	 proce\bure	 i\f	
    nece\f\fary	 to	keep	 it	in	 place.	 If	\fo,	 \fecure	 the	
    iD	 Marker	 by	in\ferting	 a	cable	 tie	through	 one,	or	
    both,	 tie	\bown	 tab\f	on	the	 iD	Marker	 an\b	the	key	
    point	 (for	example,	 pipe,	cable	 or	\fplice).
    4.2	 If	the	 key	 point	 i\f	metallic,	 it	i\f	 recommen\be\b	 that	
    the	 iD	Marker	 be	\feparate\b	 from	it	by	 a	minimum	
    \bi\ftance	 of	6	inche\f*	 (15	cm)	 of	clean	 fill	\birt.
    4.3	 If	the	 key	 point	 in	non-metallic,	 place	the	
    iD	 Marker	 over	the	\be\fire\b	 location.
    4.4	 Po\fition	 the	iD	Marker	 flat	an\b	 horizontal.	 Failing	
    to	 \bo	 \fo	can	 cau\fe	 inaccuracie\f	 in	iD	 Marker	
    location	 an\b	\bepth	 e\ftimation.
    IMPORTANT: The Full-Range \fD Marker \bannot 
    rel\fably re-rad\fate the lo\bator's s\fgnal at a depth 
    greater than 8 feet (2.4 m). If us\fng an E-model lo\bator 
    \fn \bountr\fes follow\fng CE l\fm\ftat\fons, or equ\fvalent, 
    the max\fmum depth \fs 6.5 feet (2.0 m). Th\fs \fs the 
    max\fmum allowable d\fstan\be between the Full-Range 
    \fD Marker and the lo\bator t\fp. 4.5	
    Han\b	 fill	at	lea\ft	 4	inche\f	 (10	cm)	 of	\foil	 over	
    the	 iD	Marker	 to	prevent	 movement,	 or	\bamage,	
    \buring	 backfill.
    4.6	 Backfill	 the	hole.

    *   Target  size  and  \faterial  dependent.  Depth  esti\fation  \fay  be  adversely 
    affected  when  placing  the  \farker  above  a  large  \fetallic  object,  s\bch 
    as  a  \fanhole  cover.  To  i\fprove  depth  esti\fation  acc\bracy,  increase 
    the  vertical  separation  fro\f  the  \fetal  object  to  at  least  12in  (30c\f)  or 
    perfor\f  a  field  test  for  depth  acc\bracy.
