ELECTRICAL HAZARD 
DANGER:  Watch out for existing electrical wiring and other utility 
wires or pipes when selecting a location for the fan.  Do not install the 
fan where there is electrical wiring in the way.  Select another 
location or have a qualified electrician move the wiring to a different 
location. 
 
LACERATION HAZARDS 
DANGER:  This fan has an unguarded fan blade.  Do not use in 
locations which are readily accessible to people or animals.  Do not 
let children play in an attic where this fan has been installed.  Contact 
with this fan while in operation can result in injury or even death. 
DANGER:  Keep the solar panel covered by its protective packing 
until the fan is mounted or at anytime the motor or fan blade are 
being serviced.  This fan is controlled by a solar panel – it may start 
at any time the solar panel is exposed to sunlight.  Contact with the 
fan blades while the fan is operating can result in serious injury. 
WARNING:  This product has sharp metal edges that can cut your 
hands.  Wear canvas work gloves while handling the fan during 
installation. 
 
CARBON MONOXIDE HAZARDS 
DANGER:  Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can 
kill.  Carbon monoxide may be drawn into the house by the operation 
of this fan if your fuel-burning equipment is not properly maintained 
and vented or if you lack adequate attic venting. 
 
You should check the flue of your hot water heater and furnace to 
see that the pipes are intact and sealed.  Request an inspection from 
your fuel supplier (gas company or heating oil company) or from a 
municipal building inspector if you have any questions about the 
safety of your fuel-burning equipment. 
 
OTHER HAZARDS 
DANGER:  For general ventilating use only.  Do not use to exhaust 
hazardous or explosive materials or vapors.  Use of this fan to 
exhaust hazardous, explosive or flammable materials may result in a 
fire or explosion, causing injury or death. 
 
You must also check the number and size of your intake vents.  A 
total of at least 2.7 square feet of unobstructed intake venting in the 
soffit or under-eaves must be available for safe operation of this 
ventilator.  If you have less than the amount specified above, STOP 
and install additional vents before proceeding. 
 
THIS FAN MUST BE PLACED BEHIND A NON-OPERABLE 
LOUVER WITH A NET FREE AREA OF AT LEAST 150 SQUARE 
INCHES.

horno para garantizar que la tubería esté intacta y sellada.  Si tiene alguna 
pregunta sobre la seguridad del sistema de escape de sus equipos que 
consumen combustible, solicite una inspección a su proveedor de combustible 
(compañía de gas o de aceite combustible), o bien a un inspector municipal de 
construcción.

Para que este ventilador funcione en forma segura, se requiere un total de al

exhaust operation.  Best results will be obtained if these 
openings are located around the eaves.  Rectangular soffit 
vents or continuous soffit vents are suggested.

AB Hex Washer Head Screws)

1.  FRAME OUT OPENING 
 
Frame the opening for the gable fan with 
2X framing lumber and 3” long wood 
screws or nails.  Framing lengths are 
determined by the gable vent geometry.  
A minimum of 2” x 4” nominal framing 
lumber is necessary for proper spacing 
between the fan and the vent.  For proper 
performance, it is critical to ensure that 
the opening perimeter is completely 
framed to create a sealed box between 
the fan and the vent.  Refer to Illustration 
– 1.

1.  ENMARQUE LA ABERTURA

de ático con 2 listones para enmarcar y

Las longitudes del marco estarán 
determinadas por la geometría del 
respiradero del techo a dos aguas.  Se

2A.  CUT MOUNTING BOARD 
 
Size the fan mounting board using the 
plywood or OSB to completely cover 
the framed opening created in Step 1.  
The board must be adequately sized 
to prevent any gaps where air can 
escape back into the attic.  Use the 
template on the carton to cut a 15” 
diameter opening for the fan in the 
center of the mounting board. 
 
2B.  INSTALL MOUNTING BOARD 
 
Attach mounting board created in 
Step 2A to the framed opening in the 
attic.  Use 2” long wood screws (not 
provided) spaced approximately 6” on 
center around the perimeter of the 
mounting board.  Make sure no gaps 
are present between the mounting 
board and the framing.  Refer to 
Illustration – 2. 
 
3.  MOUNT FAN ASSEMBLY 
 
Make sure that the fan is oriented so 
that the specially marked bracket is 
positioned vertically.  Fasten the fan 
assembly to the mounting board with 
eight (8) 1/4” x 1” wood screws (not 
provided).  Refer to Illustration – 3. 
 
4.  INSTALL SOLAR PANEL 
MOUNTING BRACKETS 
 
Locate the four (4) sets of two (2) 
holes on the underside of the solar 
panel frame.  Using a phillips screw 
driver and the eight (8) included #8 
sheet metal screws, secure the four 
included brackets to the frame as 
shown in Illustration – 4. 
 
5.  MOUNT SOLAR PANEL 
 
The solar panel should be positioned 
with a southern exposure for optimal 
solar collection.  NOTE:  Avoid 
locations that experience afternoon 
shade.  Next, route the wire from the 
panel to the fan location.  NOTE:  It is 
acceptable for the wire to be installed 
on top of the roof covering material.  
However, if routing the wire through 
the attic is preferred, complete the 
following steps: 2A.  CORTE EL PANEL DE MONTAJE

3.  INSTALE EL CONJUNTO DEL

4.  INSTALE LAS MÉNSULAS DE 
MONTAJE DEL PANEL SOLAR 
 
Localice los cuatro (4) grupos de dos (2) 
orificios en la parte de abajo del marco del 
panel solar.  Con un destornillador Phillips 
y los ocho (8) tornillos n.°8 para chapa de 
metal incluidos, fije las cuatro ménsulas 
(incluidas) al marco, tal como se muestra 
en la ilustración – 4. 
 
5.  INSTALE EL PANEL SOLAR 
 
El panel solar debe colocarse orientado 
hacia el sur para lograr una exposición 
óptima al sol.  NOTA:  Evite las 
ubicaciones donde haya sombra por la 
tarde.  A continuación, haga pasar el cable 
desde el panel hasta el lugar donde 
colocará el ventilador.    NOTA:  El cable

•  Drill a hole in the roof deck near 
the top of the solar panel 
location, preferably under a 
shingle. 
• Insert terminated wire ends 
through the hole into the attic.  
Leave only enough wire on top 
of the roof so that the wire is not 
under tension at the selected 
panel location. 
• Caulk around the wire in the 
hole. 
Secure the solar panel to the roof 
using the four (4) included #10 hex 
head screws as shown in Illustration 
– 5.  NOTE:  It is important to 
ensure that the fasteners used to 
secure the panel to the roof fully 
penetrate the underside of the roof 
sheathing. 
 
6.  CONNECT FAN MOTOR 
 
WARNING:  Depending on the panel’s sun exposure, it 
may be likely that the fan will start spinning once the 
connections are made.  It is recommended that the panel 
be covered temporarily while completing the installation. 
 
Using the male and female quick connect terminations 
from the panel and the motor, connect the appropriate 
leads as follows: 
•  Connect the ribbed wire “+” from the panel to the 
white wire “+” from the motor. 
•  Connect the smooth wire “-” from the panel to the 
black wire “-” from the motor. 
Refer to Illustration – 6. 
 
NOTE:  If additional wire length is 
needed to position the solar panel in 
its optimum location use the 
following:  UL Listed SPT-W, 18/C 
Black with extruded white stripe, UV 
resistant, 105ºC (221ºF). • Taladre un orificio en la base del

6.  CONECTE EL MOTOR DEL VENTILADOR

Five-Year Limited Warranty 
  Limited, Non-prorated and Transferable 
 
Who and What Is Covered and For How Long 
Provided that the product covered by this warranty have 
been installed in strict accordance with the Air Vent written 
installation instructions and in accordance with all local codes 
and standards, including those pertaining to fire rated 
construction, Air Vent warrants to the original purchaser or the 
subsequent owner of the property that the parts described in 
the following sentence are free from manufacturing defects for 
5 (five) years from the date of purchase.  This warranty 
covers the fan blade, motor and solar panel. 
Should any defect occur during the 5 (five) year period 
following the date of purchase, Air Vent will provide a 
replacement for that part deemed to be defective (but not 
including the labor costs incurred in removing the part or 
installing the replacement part). 
In the event of replacement according to the terms of this 
warranty, the original warranty shall apply to the replacement 
part and will extend for the balance of the warranty period in 
effect at the time the part proved defective. 
 
Replacement Plus
TM Protection 
The Air Vent product to which this warranty applies is 
covered by Replacement Plus Protection for a period of 2 
(two) years, provided that the product has been installed in 
strict accordance with Air Vent’s written installation 
instructions and in accordance with all local codes and 
standards, including those pertaining to fire-rated 
construction.  Under this warranty feature, Air Vent, at no 
charge, will replace any part covered by this warranty and 
found to be defective during the Replacement Plus period (the 
Replacement Plus period begins when installation is 
completed).  Air Vent’s maximum liability under Replacement 
Plus will be equal to the reasonable cost of the replacement 
part, including labor to remove the defective part and install 
the replacement part. 
In instances in which Air Vent, according to the terms of this 
warranty, has agreed to pay the cost of labor required to 
replace a defective part, Air Vent will provide reimbursement 
only upon receipt of a copy of the contractor’s invoice or other 
written evidence of the completion of the work which Air Vent, 
at its sole discretion, deems acceptable. 
 
Transferability 
If there is a change in ownership, the warranty may be 
transferred by the original purchaser of the solar power vent 
to the new owner under the terms and conditions of this 
warranty.  The warranty will then cover the period of 5 (five) 
years following the purchase of the vent.  If the warranty is 
transferred from the original purchaser to a new owner during 
the 2 (two) year Replacement Plus period, the remaining 
period of Replacement Plus Protection will be available to the 
subsequent property owner. 
At the end of the Replacement Plus Protection period, the 
warranty will cover 3 (three) years following the purchase of 
the power vent. Garantía limitada de cinco años

Protección Replacement Plus
TM 
El producto Air Vent al cual se aplica esta garantía está 
cubierto por la protección Replacement Plus por un período de 
2 (dos) años, siempre que el producto se haya instalado 
estrictamente de conformidad con las instrucciones escritas de 
instalación de Air Vent y conforme a todos los códigos y normas 
locales, incluidos aquellos relativos a la construcción de 
clasificación ignífuga.  Conforme a esta característica de la 
garantía, Air Vent reemplazará sin cargo toda pieza cubierta por 
esta garantía que resulte defectuosa durante el período

por el comprador original a un nuevo propietario durante el 
período Replacement Plus de 2 (dos) años, el período restante 
de la protección Replacement Plus estará a disposición del 
propietario subsiguiente.  Al finalizar dicho período de 
protección, la garantía cubrirá 3 (tres) años a partir de la

Limitations 
Air Vent shall not be liable for, and this warranty does not 
apply to, any failure, defect or damage resulting from or 
connected with misuse, abuse, neglect or improper handling 
or storage, or installation not in strict adherence to Air Vent’s 
written instructions.  Air Vent reserves the right to discontinue 
or modify any of its products, including color, and shall not be 
liable as a result of such discontinuance or modification.  If Air 
Vent replaces any part under this warranty, it may substitute 
parts designated by Air Vent to be of comparable quality or 
price range in the event the product initially installed has been 
discontinued or modified. 
 
Other Conditions 
This warranty is expressly in lieu of all other oral or written 
warranties, liabilities or obligations of Air Vent.  Pertinent state 
law shall control for what period of time subsequent to sale a 
consumer/homeowner may seek a remedy pursuant to the 
implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular 
purpose.  In no event shall Air Vent be liable for consequential 
or incidental damages of any kind, including any damage to 
the building, its contents or any persons therein, resulting 
from the breach of warranty set forth herein.  No field 
representative of Air Vent or any distributor or dealer is 
authorized to make any change or modification to this 
warranty.  Some states do not allow limitations on or the 
exclusion of incidental or consequential damages, so the 
above exclusions may not apply to you. 
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may 
also have other rights that vary from state to state. 
 
What the Customer Must Do 
If you believe any part is defective, call 1-800-527-1924 for 
Customer Service.  If it’s determined that parts need to be 
returned to Air Vent they must be shipped freight prepaid to 
Air Vent, 4117 Pinnacle Point Drive, Suite 400, Dallas, Texas 
75211.  Air Vent shall then promptly inspect the claimed 
defect before the furnishing of any replacement part is 
approved, and Air Vent shall, within a reasonable time after 
approval, provide the replacement part under the terms of the 
warranty.  This warranty is effective on all solar power vents 
installed on or after January 1, 2007. Limitaciones 
Air Vent no será responsable y esta garantía no se aplicará 
en caso de fallas, defectos o daños resultantes de o 
relacionados con el uso indebido, abuso, negligencia o manejo 
o almacenamiento incorrectos, como tampoco en el caso de 
una instalación que no haya cumplido estrictamente las 
instrucciones escritas de Air Vent.  Air Vent se reserva el 
derecho de suspender o modificar cualquiera de sus productos, 
incluyendo el color, y no será responsable como resultado de 
dicha suspensión o modificación.  En caso de que Air Vent 
reemplace una pieza conforme a esta garantía, podrá utilizar 
otra que considere de calidad o nivel de precio comparables si 
el producto inicialmente instalado hubiera sido suspendido o 
modificado. 
 
Otras condiciones 
Esta garantía reemplaza expresamente toda otra garantía, 
responsabilidad u obligación verbal o escrita de Air Vent.  La 
legislación del estado pertinente regirá el plazo subsiguiente a 
la venta en que un consumidor/propietario de vivienda podrá 
tratar de obtener un recurso, de conformidad con la garantía 
implícita de comerciabilidad o aptitud para un propósito 
particular.  En ningún caso Air Vent será responsable de los 
daños consecuentes o incidentales de cualquier naturaleza 
(incluido cualquier daño al edificio, a su contenido o a los 
ocupantes del mismo) resultantes del incumplimiento de una 
garantía establecida en el presente.  Ningún representante de 
campo, distribuidor o agente de Air Vent está autorizado a 
realizar cambio o modificación alguna a esta garantía.  Algunos 
estados no permiten limitar o excluir los daños incidentales o 
consecuentes, por lo cual es posible que las exclusiones 
mencionadas precedentemente no se apliquen a su caso. 
Esta garantía le otorga derechos legales específicos, y es 
posible que usted también disponga de otros derechos que 
varían de estado a estado. 
 
Qué debe hacer el consumidor 
Si usted considera que una pieza está defectuosa, llame al 1-
800-527-1924 para obtener Servicio al Cliente.  En caso de que 
se determine que las piezas deben devolverse a Air Vent, éstas 
deberán despacharse con flete pagado anticipadamente a Air 
Vent, 4117 Pinnacle Point Drive, Suite 400, Dallas, Texas 
75211.  Antes de aprobar el suministro de una pieza de 
reemplazo, Air Vent procederá a inspeccionar a la brevedad el 
defecto objeto del reclamo.  En un plazo razonable después de 
la aprobación, Air Vent proveerá la pieza de reemplazo 
conforme a los términos de la garantía.  Esta garantía es válida 
para todos los ventiladores a energía solar instalados a partir
