 APPLICATION
Alpha® Universal Safety Guard Kit is created for safe operation with the Alpha® Groove 
Cutter on most popular 4-1/2” and 5” high speed angle grinders.  Alpha
® Groove Cutter cuts 
fl awless grooves for joint seaming.
Our patent pending design assures the grooves will be level to achieve maximum strength at 
each joint.  The Groove Cutter may also be used to cut a groove for dry installation of facade.

 INSTRUCTIONS
Alpha Professional Tools® provides the highest quality parts and manufacturing techniques 
in the manufacture of this product. In order to obtain the maximum effectiveness and provide 
the highest degree of safety, it is necessary to review and follow these instructions carefully 
before using the tool.
  CAUTION!
•  Attach the Safety Guard correctly by following the procedure in this 
instructional manual.
•  During operation, be sure to wear personal safety equipment.

2.  Insert coolant line with valve 
into valve clamp.  (Located at 
back side of Guard)
3. Install “Push-to-connect” 90 
degree swivel elbow to inlet 
side of valve as shown.

5.  Tighten valve clamp to a 
secure condition with phillips 
screw driver.

4.  Tighten down fi tting to a snug 
condition.
Caution:  Do not overtighten as 
damage to plastic valve body 
will occur.
During startup if leakage at 
this joint occurs, tighten in 
small increments to a leak-tight 
condition.

6.  Set the 4 phillips head screws, 
located on the clamp assem-
bly, flush with the internal 
clamp surfaces as shown.

3.  Tighten both clamp screws 
evenly with a 5mm hex key 
to a secure condition. Note: The fi t of the clamp as-
sembly is important for 
secure attachment to 
the tool.
2.  Before tightening clamp 
assembly check for full 
coverage to the neck of the 
grinder as shown.

 INSTALLATION OF UNIVERSAL GUARD
1.  Place guard assembly onto grinder neck as 
shown.

Grinder, please see page 9 for the 
installation of the Neck Spacer, 
before proceeding to STEP 2.

4.  Tighten the 4 phillips head 
screws to a snug condition.  
(Do not overtighten)
5.  Recheck guard clamp as-
sembly for a tight connection 
to the grinder neck.
6.  Take one end of the water 
line and insert into the “push 
to connect” side of the 90 
degree swivel elbow.
7.  Push tubing until it contacts 
the bottom of the fi tting.  Pull 
back slightly on the tubing to 
assure correct engagement.
Note:  Tubing should not pull out 
from fi tting.
8.  To release tubing from fi tting, 
push tubing inward and push 
down on the release collar, 
then pull tubing free from 
connection.

2.  Place spacer at back 
of grinder neck.
3.  Place guard assem-
bly, as shown in Fig-
ure 15, with  spacer 
between grinder neck 
and clamp assembly 
of guard.
4.  After installation of 
neck spacer...return to 
STEP 2 on PAGE 7 to 
continue installation of 
the Universal Guard.

INSTALLATION FOR THE 
MAKITA
® ANGLE GRINDER
1.  The supplied spacer is to 
be used with a small diam-
eter neck grinder as found 
with the Makita
® grinder.

3.  Position hook & loop strap 
around waterline and grinder 
body.
Note: Position strap away from 
vent ports of grinder.
4.  The 90 degree swivel elbow 
can be moved to give a tight in-
stallation to the grinder body.
5.  Adjust strap to a tight position. 2.  Tighten compression nut with a 14mm 
wrench to a secure condition.
Note:  Do not overtighten connection.
If leakage occurs during startup, 
tighten in small increments until a 
leak tight connection is made.
 GARDEN HOSE 
ADAPTER INSTALLATION
1.  Take the open end of the 
water line and place com-
pression fi tting nut on tube 
as shown.  Push the tube into 
the connector base.
