    2014 HMD 500 Hot Metal Detector 2
    DESCRIPTION:

    S
    CANNING PRINCIPLE:
Sensing is accomplished without the use of a lens, which enhances reliability while maintaining
precise detection at distances in excess of 16.7m ( 50 ft). The narrow field of view is
    vertically
    scanned
by a rotating drum with multiple facets that refle cts IR energy to the photodiode (PbS). The
    resultant spot size is approximately 4mm x 4mm at 4 m through a viewing field of +/- 20 degrees.
The small spot size results in
precise detection of head and tail ends.

    CHOICE OF PHOTOCELL:
The HMD 500 Series is designed to use a lead sulfide (PbS) photocell. Lead sulfide has superior hot
metal detection capabilities. The output level is s ufficient to provide reliable detection even with
product temperatures as low as 150°C (300°F) and is continuous when the hot product is within the
viewing field. These characteristics allow the lead sulfide photocell to provide reliable hot product
detection, even through steam, dust and water.
