How to adjust the screen refresh rate You don’t have to choose the highest possible refresh rate on an LCD display, because it is not technically possible for an LCD display to flicker. The best results are obtained by using the factory modes already set in your computer. There is a table with the factory modes in the specification section of this User Manual: Supported PC Timings on page 47 You can choose 60, 70 and 75 Hert z, (but not 72Hz) for the native resolution of 1920 x 1200. 1. Double click the Display icon in Control Panel . 2. From the Display Properties window, select the Settings tab and click the Advanced button. 3. Select the Adapter tab, and select an appropriate refresh rate to match one of the applicable factory modes as listed in the specification table. 4. Click Change, OK , then Ye s. 5. Close the Display Properties window.
22 Picture optimization 7. Picture optimization The easiest way to obtain an optimal display from an analog (D-Sub) input is to use the i key function. Press the i key to optimize the currently displayed image to the screen. When you connect a digital video output using a digital (DVI) cable to your monitor, the i key and the Auto Adjustment function will be disabled, be cause the monitor will automatica lly display the best image. Please ensure that the connected graphic card on your computer is set to the native resolution of the monitor (1920 x 1200) when you use the i key function. If you wish, you can always adjust the screen geometric settings manually using geometry menu items. To assist you in this ende avour, BenQ has provided a screen test image utility which you can use to check for screen color, gray scale and line gradient display. 1. Run the test program auto.exe from CD-ROM. You could also use any other image, such as the desktop of your operating system. However, we recommend that you use auto.exe. As you run auto.exe, a test pattern displays. 2. Press the i key on the monitor. 3. Press the MENU key to access the monitor On-Screen Display (OSD) menu. 4. Use the t or u keys to select DISPLAY and press the ENTER key to enter the menu. 5. If you notice a vertical noise (like a curtai n effect-shimmering of vertical lines), press the t or u keys to select Pixel Clock and press the ENTER key. Then press the t or u keys to adjust the monitor until the noise disappears. 6. If you notice a horizontal noise, press the t or u keys to select Phase and press the ENTER key. Then press the t or u keys adjust the monitor until the noise disappears.

The key is also the hot key for activating the PIP (Picture-in-Picture) function and select ing a video input source for the PIP window. 3. t (Up) key: For Up/Increase adjustment. The key is also the hot key for Brightness. 4. u (Down) key: For Down/Decrease adjustment. The key is also the hot key for Contrast. 5. “MENU/EXIT” key: Activate OSD main menu and return to the previous menu or exit OSD. 6. “Mode” key: Switch betw een different modes, including Standard, Movie , Dynamics , Photo , Action Game , and Racing Game . 7. “Game Mode” key: Switch between different modes, including Standard, Action Game , and Racing Game . 8. “Input /Swap” key: Manually switch between di fferent video signals that may be connected to your monitor for the main window, or swap th e input signals between the main window and the PIP window. 9. “PerfectMotion” key: Activate the PerfectMotion function. It is recommended that you use this function specially when you are viewing dynamic contents, such as movies, games, etc. 10. “ i key”: Adjust vertical position, phase, horizo ntal position and pixel clock automatically. OSD = On Screen Display. The hot-keys will display a graduated scale for adjustin g the value of that setting, and will only operate while the OSD menu is not currently displaying. Hot-key displays will disappear after a few seconds of no key activity. See Hot key mode on page 26 .

26 How to adjust your monitor Hot key mode The monitor keys perform as hot keys to provide direct access to particular functions whenever the menu isnt currently displaying on-screen. Brightness hot key Contrast hot key PIP hot key Press the t key to display the Brightness indicator. Further press the t key to increase or the u key to decrease the screen brightness, and press the MENU key to exit. Press the u key to display the Contrast indicator. Further press the t key to increase or the u key to decrease the screen contrast, and press the MENU key to exit. Press the Enter key to activate the picture in picture display and select the picture in pic- ture display source. Pressing this key continually allows you to switch between the video input sources or turn the PIP function off. When the messages of the desired input source displays, release the key to set the PIP input source. The message will last around 3 seconds. The setting will take effect immediately. This command can bring up a window from a second image source. Thus you can watch images from 1 computer graphic/PC video source (D-sub, DVI, HDMI*, or Component) and 1 video source (Composite or S-video). The PIP function will not allow fo r 2 computer graphic/PC video sources or 2 video sources to perform PIP. *HDMI, short for High Definition Multimedia Interface, is the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface between audio/video sources and audio and/or video monitors. Being different from other conne ctors, an HDMI connector can carry both video and audio signals via the same cable and transfer uncompressed digital audio and video for the highest image quality. It supports digital televi sions (DTV), set-top boxes, DVD players, and DVD recorders, etc.
27 How to adjust your monitor Mode hot key • If the input source of the main window is from the computer graphic/PC video signals (D-sub, DVI, HDMI, or Component), you will cycle through the following messages indicating the video input sources for the PIP window. • If the input source of the main window is from the video signals (Composite or S-video), you will cycle through the following messages indicating the computer graphic/PC video signals for the PIP window. Press the key continually to switch between the 6 modes for the main window, including Standard , Movie , Dynamics , Photo , Action Game , and Racing Game . The setting will take effect immediately. The setting will take effect immediately. See also Picture Mode on page 36. Press the Input/Swap key continually to select an input source for the main window or swap the input sig nals between the main window and the PIP window when the PIP function is activated. To specify the input source, release the key when you see the message of the preferred input source, which will be lasting for around 3 seconds. The setting will take effect immediately. • When the PIP function is OFF, select between the comput er graphic/PC video input sources and video input sources. To specify the input signal, release the key while the message displays. The input signal messages will be displayed in sequence as below: The Computer Graphic /PC Video input sources include D-sub, DVI, HDMI, and Component, while the Video input sources include Composite and S-video.
29 How to adjust your monitor The PIP function will not allow for 2 com puter graphic/PC video sources or 2 video sources to perform PIP. To specify an input video source for the PIP window, press Enter to make a selection. See also PIP hot key on page 26 . PerfectMotion hot key • When the PIP function is ON, select between various input sources of the current video type (Computer Graphic/PC video or Video) for the main window. The cycle will be performed in a specific sequence. Keeping pr essing the key will swap the current main window’s signal source with the current PIP window’s signal source. To specify the input signal, release the key while the message displays. If the current main window source is fr om the Computer Graphic/PC video input signals, the input signal messages will be displayed in sequence as below: If the current main window source is from the Video input signals, the input signal messages will be displayed in sequence as below: Press the PerfectMotion key to display the PerfectMotion indicator. Further press the t key to increase or the u key to decrease the level of PerfectMotion to the desired value, ranging from 0 to 3, and press the MENU key to exit. See also PerfectMotion on page 37. It is recommended that you use this function specially when you are viewing dynamic contents, such as movies, games, etc.
30 How to adjust your monitor Main menu mode You can use the OSD (On Screen Display) menu to adjust all the settings on your monitor. Press the MENU key to display the following main OSD menu. The OSD menu languages may differ from the product supplied to your region, see “ Language on page 43 ” under “OSD Settings” for more details.
