    							English - 21 619 929 535 ¥ TMS ¥ 22.03.01
The machine is designed for drilling in concrete,
brick and stone as well as for chiselling.
nBefore any work on the machine itself, pull
    the mains plug.
With the SDS-max tool holder, simpler and easier
tool changing is possible without additional aids.
+Grease the shank end of the tool regu-
    larly.
The dust protection capÊ1 largely prevents the
entry of drilling dust during operation. When in-
serting the tool, take care that the dust protection
    capÊ1 is not damaged.
A damaged dust protection cap should be
    changed immediately. We recommend having
this carried out by an after-sales service.
     Inserting
Clean and grease the shank end of the tool.
Insert the tool in a twisting manner into the tool
holder until it latches itself. Check the latching by
    pulling on the tool.
     Removing
Push back the locking sleeveÊ2 of the tool holder
and remove the tool. Let go of the locking
    sleeveÊ2 again.
nUse the machine only with the auxiliary
    handleÊ9.
Loosen the handle by turning to the left. Rotate
the auxiliary handleÊ9 and adapt to the working
    position.
Firmly retighten the handle. The integrated vibration damperÊ4 reduces oc-
    curing vibrations.
The soft grip reduces any danger of slipping and
thereby ensures a better grip and handling of the
    machine.
nDo not drill, fasten or cut into blind areas
where electric, gas or water lines may exist.
Use appropriate detectors to determine if
these lines are hidden in the work area or
call the local utility company for assis-
    tance.
Contacting electric lines may cause fire or
electric shock. Striking a gas line will probably
result in explosion. Breaking into a water pipe
will cause property damage or may cause an
    electric shock.
Hold tools by insulated gripping sur-
    faces when performing an operation
where the cutting tool may contact hid-
den wiring or its own cord.
Contact with a ÒliveÓ wire will make ex-
posed metal parts of the tool ÒliveÓ and
    shock the operator.
Check for correct mains voltage: The voltage
of the power source must agree with the voltage
specified on the nameplate of the machine.
Equipment marked with 230 V can also be con-
    nected to 220 V.
Switching On / Off in drilling mode:
    Switching on:Press the On / Off switchÊ5
    and hold depressed.
    Switching off:Release the On / Off switchÊ5.

+At low temperatures it is possible that the
machine only reaches its full hammering or
impact rate after a certain period of time.
The electronic control enables continuous pre-se-
lection of speed and impact rate in accordance
with the material to be worked. Adjustment is car-
ried out with the speed selector thumbwheelÊ6.
The constant electronic control keeps the pre-se-
lected speed and impact rate nearly constant be-
    tween no-load and load conditions.
The speed must be selected in accordance with
    the material.
When inserting the mains plug into the outlet or
after a power failure, the electronic control auto-
matically adjusts to the maximum speed and im-
pact rate. This avoids operation below optimum
capacity, due to a low pre-setting of the speed se-
    lector thumbwheelÊ6.
The values in the table are recommendations.
Depending on application, the electronic control
should be adjusted with the speed selector
thumbwheelÊ6.If the drill bit jams or edges, the drive to the
    drill spindle is interrupted.
Due to the arising forces always hold the
machine firmly with both hands and
    provide for a secure stance.
If the drilling tool jams, switch the machine off and
loosen the drilling tool. When switching the ma-
chine on with the drilling tool jammed, high reac-
    tion torques can occur!
nOperate the mode selector switchÊ3 only
when the machine is at a standstill.
Set the mode selector switchÊ3 to the required
    position.

The chisel can be locked in 12 positions. In this
manner, the optimum working position can be set
    for each application.
Insert the chisel in the tool holder.
Turn the mode selector switchÊ3 to ÒChanging
    the chiselling positionÓ (Vario-lock).
Turn the tool holder to the desired chiselling posi-
    tion.
Allow the mode selector switchÊ3 to latch in the
ÒChisellingÓ position. The tool holder is locked in
    this position.
The mode selector switchÊ3 must always be
locked in the ÒChisellingÓ position when chis-
    elling.
Good results are only achieved with sharp chis-
els, therefore sharpen the chiselling tools regu-
lary. This prolongs the service life of the tools and
    ensures good working performance.
    Re-sharpening the Chiselling Tools
Sharpen chiselling tools using grinding wheels
    (e. g. ceramic bonded corundum wheel) with a
steady supply of water. Recommended values
are shown in Fig.ÊC. Take care that no annealing
coloration appears on the cutting edges, other-
wise the hardness of the chiselling tools will be
    impaired.
    Forging and Hardening
Forging:Heat the chisel to between 850 and
1050 ¡C (bright red to yellow) and
    forge.
    Hardening:Heat the chisel to 900 ¡C (bright
red) and quench in oil, then anneal
in an oven for approx. one hour at
    320 ¡C (annealing colourÊ=Êlight
    blue).
nBefore any work on the machine itself, pull
    the mains plug.
+For safe and proper working, always keep
the machine and the ventilation slots clean.
nKeep the tool holder clean at all times.
    Changing the dust protection cap
A damaged dust protection cap should be
    changed immediately. We recommend having
this carried out by an after-sales service.
    Lubrication
The machine is oil-lubricated. An oil change is
only required during maintenance or repair by an
authorized Bosch After-Sales Service. It is imper-
ative to use the designated Bosch oil.
    Service indicatorÊ7 (red)
When the carbon brushes are worn out, the ma-
chine switches itself off. This is indicated approx.
eight hours beforehand by the lighting or blinking
of the service indicatorÊ7. The machine must then
be sent to customer service for maintenance (for
addresses, see Section ÒService and Customer
    AssistanceÓ).
    Stand-by-indicatorÊ8 (green)
With the mains plug inserted and mains voltage
available, the stand-by-indicatorÊ8 must light up.
If the machine can not be switched on despite the
lit stand-by-indicator, it must be sent to an author-
ized customer service centre for Bosch power
    tools.
If the machine should fail despite the rigorous
    manufacturing and testing procedures, repair
should be carried out by an authorised after-sales
service centre for Bosch power tools.
In all correspondence and spare parts orders,
please always include the 10-digit order number
given on the nameplate of the machine.
    WARNING! Important instructions for con-
necting a new 3-pin plug to the 2Êwire cable.
The wires in the cable are coloured according to
    the following code:
    Do not
connect the blue or brown wire to the
    earth terminal of the plug.
Important: If for any reason the moulded plug is
removed from the cable of this machine it must be
    disposed of safely.
