Normally, the  setting will set the optimum white balance 
automatically. If natural-looking  colors cannot be obtained with <
Q>, 
you can set the white bal ance manually to suit the  respective light source. 
In the  (Full Auto) mode,  will be set automatically.

With custom white balance, you shoot a white object that will serve as 
the basis for the white balance setting. By selecting this image, you 
import its white balance data for the white balance setting.
1Photograph a white object.
 The plain, white object should fill the 
spot metering circle.
  Set the lens focus mode switch to

 If the exposure obtained in step 1  is underexposed or overexposed, a 
correct white balance might not be obtained.
  If an image was captured whil e the Picture Style was set to 
[ Monochrome ] (p.54), it cannot be selected in step 3.
Instead of a white object, an 18% gra y card (commercially available) can 
produce a more accu rate white balance.
3 Setting the Color Temperature N
You can numerically set the white balance’s color temperature.

You can correct the standard color temperature for the white balance 
setting. This adjustment will have  the same effect as using a color 
temperature conversion or color comp ensating filter. Each color can be 
corrected to one of nine levels. Users fa miliar with using color temperature 
conversion or color compensating fi lters will find this feature handy.
1Select [WB SHIFT/BKT].
 Turn the < 5> dial to select [ z WB

With just one shot, three images having a different color tone can be 
recorded simultaneously. Based on t he white balance mode’s standard 
color temperature, the image will be bracketed with a blue/amber bias 
or magenta/green bias. This is called white balance bracketing. It can 
be set up to ±3 levels in single-level increments.
1Select [WB SHIFT/BKT].
  Turn the < 5> dial to select [ z WB 
SHIFT/BKT ], then press < 0>.

XWhen B/A bracketing has been set, the 
three images will be recorded onto the 
CF card in the fo llowing sequence: 
Standard WB, B (blue) bias, and A 
(amber) bias. If M/G bracketing has 
been set, the sequence will be 
Standard WB, M (magenta) bias, and 
G (green) bias.
  In step 2, set “ BKT” to “±0” (“    ” to

The color space refers to the range of reproducible colors. With this 
camera, you can set the color space for captured images to sRGB or 
Adobe RGB. For normal images, sR GB is recommended. In the  
(Full Auto) mode, sRGB will be set automatically.
1Select [Color space].
 Turn the < 5> dial to select [ z

are to be saved. This is opti onal since a folder will be created 
automatically for saving captured images.

3 Creating and Selecting a Folder

number on the right is the number of 
images contained in the folder.

The file number is like the frame number on a roll of film. It can start 
counting in one of three different ways: [ Continuous], [Auto reset ], and 
[ Manual reset ]. The images you take are aut omatically assigned a file 
number from 0001 to 9999. The imag es are saved in the selected 
folder.
1Select [File numbering].
