Before You Start
The camera’s shooting function settings and menu settings can be 
reverted to their defaults.
1Select [Clear all camera settings].
  Under the [ 54] tab, select [ Clear all 
camera settings], then press .
2Select [OK].
 Select [OK ], then press < 0>.

You can display a grid in the viewfinder to help you straighten or 
compose the shot.
1Select [VF grid display].
 Under the [ z1] tab, select [VF grid 
display ], then press < 0>.
2Select [Enable].
  Select [Enable ], then press .
X When you exit the menu, the grid will 
appear in the viewfinder.
Displaying the Grid
A grid can also be displayed on the L CD monitor during Live View shooting 
and movie shooting (p.229, 276).

You can display the electronic level on the LCD monitor and in the 
viewfinder to help correct camera tilt. Note that you can check only the 
horizontal tilt and not the forward/backward tilt.
1Press the  button.
 Each time you press the < B> 
button, the screen display will 
change.
  Display the electronic level.
  If the electronic level does not 
appear, set [5 3: z  button 
display options ] so that the 
electronic level can be displayed 
(p.394).

A simple electronic level using a  camera icon can be displayed in the 
viewfinder at the center bottom. Sinc e this can be displayed while you 
shoot, you can correct any  tilt during handheld shooting.
1Select [Viewfinder level].
 Under the [ z1] tab, select 
[Viewfinder level], then press < 0>.
2Select [Show].
  Select [Show ], then press < 0>.
3Press the shutter button halfway.

shown in the illustration.

Q Displaying the Electronic Level
The viewfinder can display an electr onic level and grid using the AF 
points. This is convenient to correct any camera tilt before shooting with 
a tripod.
1Select Custom Functions III.
  Under the [ 8] tab, select [C.Fn III: 
Operation/Others ], then press 
< 0 >.
2Select C.Fn III -4 [Custom 
Controls].
  Press the < U> key to select [ 4: 
Custom Controls], then press .
3Select [e].
 Select [e : DOF preview button ], 
then press < 0>.

  Even when the tilt is co rrected, there may be a  margin of error of ±1°.
  If the camera is very ti lted, the electronic level’s  margin of error will be 
larger.
  If the Depth-of-field preview bu tton has been assigned with [VF 
electronic level], depth-of-field preview  (p.163) will not work.

The Feature guide and Help display information about camera features.
The Feature guide appears when you  change the shooting mode or set 
a shooting function, Live View shooting, movie shooting, or Quick 
Control for playback, and displays a  brief description of that mode, 
function or option. It also displays a description when you select a 
function or option on the Quick Cont rol screen. When you proceed with 
the operation, the Feature guide will disappear.

When [zHelp] is displayed at the bottom of the menu screen, 
pressing the < B> button displays the function’s description (Help). If 
the Help fills more than one screen , a scroll bar will appear on the right 
edge. You can turn the < 5> dial or press the  key to scroll.
  Example: [ z4: Long exp. noise reduction]
  Example: [ 8C.Fn I-1: Exposure  level increments]
  Example: [ 8C.Fn II-1: Tracking sensitivity]
