Camera Setup (Advanced Zoom, Image Stabilizer, etc.) CAMERA SETUP
1 Option available only when the recording program is set to or (only in the [ PROGRAM AE] recording program).
2 Option available only when the mode switch is set to .3 [ ADVANCED] when [WIDESCREEN] is set to [ OFF].4 Not available when [WIDESCREEN] is set to [ OFF].
[A.SL SHUTTER]: The camcorder automatically uses slow shutter speeds to obtain
brighter recordings in places with insufficient lighting.
    • The camcorder uses shutter speeds down to 1/30 (1/15 in mode).
    • If a trailing afterimage appears, set the slow shutter to [ OFF].
    • If (camcorder shake warn ing) appears, we recommend stabilizing the camcorder, for
example, by mountin g it on a tripod.
[REVIEW]: Selects the time to display a still image after it has been recorded.
    • This menu item will not be availabl e when the drive mode ( 56) is set to
    [ CONT.SHOOT.], [ HISPEED CONT.SHOOT.] or [ AEB].
    • If you press while reviewing a still image it will continue to be displayed indefinitely. Press to return to the normal display.
[IMG STAB]: The image stabilizer compensates fo r camcorder shake even at full
    telephoto.
    • The image stabilizer is de signed to compensate for a normal degree of camcorder
shake. The image stabilizer may also not be able to compensate for all
    movement when recording moving subjects.
    • The image stabilize r may not be effective when recording in dark places with
[A.SL SHUTTER] set to [ ON] or us ing the [ NIGHT] recording program.
    • The image stabilizer may not work well on subjects with low contrast, with a recurring, repetitive pattern or without vertical lines.

    66 • Additional Information
    • The image stabilizer cannot be turned off when the mode switch is set to .
    • We recommend setting the image stabilizer to [ OFF] when using a tripod.
[WIDESCREEN]: The camcorder uses the full width of the image sensor providing high-
    resolution 16:9 recordings.
    • Since the screens on the camcorder have an aspect ratio of 16:9, recordings with a 4:3
aspect ratio will appear in the center of the screen with black sidebars.
    •
Playing back a widescreen recording: TV sets compatible with the Video ID-1 system will
automatically switch to wide (16:9) mode. Otherwise, ch ange the aspect ratio of the TV
manually. To play back on a TV with normal aspect ratio (4:3) change the [TV TYPE]
    setting accordingly ( 68).
[WIND SCREEN]: The camcorder automatically redu ces the background sound of wind
    when recording outdoors.
    • The wind screen cannot be turned off wh en the mode switch is set to .
    • Some low-frequency sounds w ill be suppressed along with the sound of wind. When
recording in surroundings unaffected by wind or if you want to record low-frequency
sounds, we recommend setting the wind screen to [ OFF ].

[DISC INFO]: Displays a screen where you can verify the details regarding the disc.
    • The disc information includes the disc title, the disc type (DVD-R, DVD-R DL or DVD-
RW), the disc specification (VIDEO mode or VR mode), and an icon to indicate whether
the disc is finalized ( ). Additionally, the total recorded time is displayed for non-
