The camera can use a CF card and SD card. Images can be recorded 
when at least one card is  installed in the camera.
If a card is inserted in both slots, you can select which card to record 
images to or record the same im ages simultaneously on both cards 
(p.116, 118). If you use an SD card, be sure the card’s write-protect switch 
is set upward to enable writing/erasing.

 Close the cover and slide it in the 
direction shown by the arrows until it 
snaps shut.

shots and the loa ded card(s) will be 
displayed on the LCD panel.

card with the < > icon next to the 
respective card’s indicator.

Installing and Removing the Card
1Open the cover.
 Set the power switch to < 2>.
  Make sure the access lamp is off, 
then open the cover.
  If [Recording ... ] is displayed, close 
the cover.
2Remove the card.
  To remove the CF card, push the 
eject button.
  To remove the SD card, push it in 
gently and release it. Then pull it out.
  Pull the card straight out, then close 
the cover.

If you turn on the power switch and the Date/Time/Zone setting 
screen appears, see page 36 to set the Date/Time/Zone.

Turning on the Power
When the power switch is set to , the battery level will be 
indicated in one of six levels. A blinking battery icon ( b) indicates 
that the battery will be exhausted soon.

When you turn on the power for the first time or if the date/time has 
been reset, the Date/Time/Zone setting screen will appear. Follow steps 
3 to 6 to set the current date, time, and time zone.
Note that the date/time appended to  recorded images will be based 
on this date/time setting. Be sure to set the correct date/time.
You can also set the time zone of  your current address. Then if you 
travel to another time zone, you can  simply set your destination’s time 
zone so that the correct...

The camera is compatible with all Canon EF lenses. The camera cannot be used with EF-S lenses.
1Remove the caps.
 Remove the rear lens cap and the 
body cap by turning them as shown 
by the arrows.
2Attach the lens.
 Align the red dots on the lens and 
camera and turn the lens as shown by 
the arrow until it  clicks in place.
3Set the lens focus mode switch to

Attaching and Detaching a Lens
To zoom, turn the zoom ring on the lens 
with your fingers.
If you want to zoom, do it before 
focusing. Turning the zoom ring after 
achieving focus may throw off the 
focus slightly.
While pressing the lens release 
button, turn the lens as shown by 
the arrow.
 Turn the lens until it stops, then 
detach it.
  Attach the rear lens cap to the
