Playback on a TV
By connecting the camera to a TV, you can view your shots on the larger 
screen of the TV.
For details on connection or how to switch inputs, refer to the TV manual.

Playback	on	a	High-Definition	TVYou can view your shots on a TV by connecting the camera to an HDTV 
with a commercially available HDMI cable (not exceeding 2.5 m, with a 
Type D terminal on the camera end). Movies shot at a resolution of [
] or 
[] can be viewed in high definition.
1 Make sure the camera and TV 
are off.
2 Connect the camera to the TV.
zzOn the TV, insert the cable plug fully into 
the HDMI input as shown.

zzOn the camera, open the terminal cover 
and insert the cable plug fully into the 
camera terminal.
3 Turn the TV on and switch to 
video input.
zzSwitch the TV input to the video input you 
connected the cable to in step 2.
4 Turn the camera on.
zzPress the  button to turn the camera 
on.
zzImages from the camera are now 
displayed on the TV. (Nothing is 
displayed on the camera screen.)
zzWhen finished, turn off the camera and 
TV before disconnecting the cable.
•	Camera operating sounds are not played while the camera is connected to \
an 
HDTV.

Controlling the Camera with a TV RemoteConnecting the camera to an HDMI CEC-compatible TV enables playback 
(including slideshow playback) using the TV remote control.
Depending on the TV, you may need to adjust some TV settings. For 
details, refer to the TV manual.
1	 Configure	the	setting.
zzPress the  button, choose 
[Ctrl via HDMI] on the [3] tab, and then 
choose [Enable] ( =
  22).
2 Connect the camera to the TV.
zzFollow steps 1 – 2 in “Playback on a 
High-Definition TV” (=  121) to connect 
the camera to the TV.
3 Display images.
zzTurn on the TV. On the camera, press the

4 Control the camera with the TV 
remote.
zzPress the  buttons on the remote 
to browse images.
zzTo display the camera control panel, 
press the OK/Select button. Select 
control panel options by pressing the 
 buttons to choose an option, 
and then pressing the OK/Select button 
again.

ReturnCloses the menu.
Group PlaybackDisplays sets of images shot in [] or [] mode 
(=  44, 50). (Only displayed when a grouped image 
is selected.)
Play Movie Starts movie playback. (Only displayed when a movie

. Slideshow Starts slideshow playback. To switch images during 
playback, press the  buttons on the remote 
control.
Index Playback Displays multiple images in an index.
l Change Display
Switches display modes ( =
  66).
•	 Pressing buttons, such as the  button, on the camera will switch 
control to the camera itself, which will prevent remote control until yo\
u return to 
single-image display.
•	 Moving the zoom lever on the camera will switch control to the camera it\
self, 
which will prevent remote control until you return to single-image displ\
ay.
•	 The camera may not always respond correctly even if the remote is for an\
 
HDMI CEC-compatible TV.

Playback	on	a	Standard-Definition	TVConnecting the camera to a TV with the AV Cable AVC-DC400 (sold 
separately) enables you to view your shots on the larger screen of the \
TV 
as you control the camera.
1 Make sure the camera and TV 
are off.
2 Connect the camera to the TV.
zzOn the TV, insert the cable plugs fully into 
the video inputs as shown.
zzOn the camera, open the terminal cover 
and insert the cable plug fully into the 
camera terminal.
3 Display images.
zzFollow steps 3 – 4 in “Playback on a High-
Definition TV” (=  122) to display images.
•	 Correct display is not possible unless the camera video output 
format (NTSC or PAL) matches the TV format. To change the 
video output format, press the  button and choose [Video 
System] on the [3] tab.

•	When the camera and TV are connected, you can also shoot while previewing 
shots on the larger screen of the TV. To shoot, follow the same steps as when 
using the camera screen. However, AF-Point Zoom (=
  37) is not available.

Powering the Camera with Household Power
Powering the camera with AC Adapter Kit ACK-DC90 (sold separately) 
eliminates the need to monitor the remaining battery level.
1 Make sure the camera is off.
2 Open the cover.
zzFollow step 1 in “Inserting the Battery 
Pack and Memory Card” ( =  11) to 
open the memory card/battery cover, and 
then open the coupler cable port cover 
as shown.
3 Insert the coupler.
zzInsert the coupler facing the direction 
shown, just as you would a battery pack 
(following step 2 in “Inserting the Battery 
Pack and Memory Card” ( =
  11)).
Terminals
zzMake sure the coupler cable passes 
through the port.
4 Close the cover.
zzLower the cover () and hold it down as 
you slide it, until it clicks into the closed 
position (
).
5 Connect the power cord.
zzInsert the adapter plug into the end of the 
coupler cable.
zzInsert one end of the power cord into the 
compact power adapter, and then plug 
the other end into a power outlet.
zzTurn the camera on and use it as desired.
zzWhen finished, turn the camera off and 
unplug the power cord from the outlet.
•	 Do not disconnect the adapter or unplug the power cord while 
the camera is still on. This may erase your shots or damage the 
camera.
•	 Do not attach the adapter or adapter cord to other objects. Doing so 
could result in malfunction or damage to the product.

Using the Software
The software available for download from the Canon website is introduced\
 
below, with instructions for installation and saving images to a computer.

After downloading the software from the Canon website and installing it,\
 you 
can do the following things on your computer.

Saving Images to a Computer
Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.8 are used here for the sake of illustration.
For other functions, refer to the help system of the relevant software (\
some 
software excluded).
1 Connect the camera to the 
computer.
zzWith the camera turned off, open the 
cover (). With the smaller plug of the 
USB cable in the orientation shown, 
insert the plug fully into the camera 
terminal (
).
zzInsert the larger plug of the USB cable 
in the computer’s USB port. For details 
about USB connections on the computer, 
refer to the computer user manual.
2 Turn the camera on to access 
CameraWindow.
zzPress the  button to turn the camera 
on.
zzMac OS: CameraWindow is displayed 
when a connection is established 
between the camera and computer.
zzWindows: Follow the steps introduced 
below.
zzIn the screen that displays, click the [] 
link to modify the program.
zzChoose [Downloads Images From Canon 
Camera] and then click [OK].
zzDouble-click [].
3 Save the images to the 
computer.
zzClick [Import Images from Camera], and 
then click [Import Untransferred Images].
zzImages are now saved to the Pictures 
folder on the computer, in separate 
folders named by date.
zzAfter images are saved, close 
CameraWindow, press the  button 
to turn the camera off, and unplug the 
cable.

- Image protection settings may be cleared from images saved to a computer\

- Some problems may occur when saving images or image information, 
depending on the operating system version, the software in use, or image\
 
file sizes.

 Some functions provided by the software may not be available, such as 
movie editing.

Printing Images
Your shots can easily be printed by connecting the camera to a printer. On 
the camera, you can specify images to set up batch printing, prepare ord\
ers 
for photo development services, and prepare orders or print images for 
photobooks.
A Canon SELPHY CP series compact photo printer is used here for the 
sake of illustration. Screens displayed and available functions vary by \
printer. Also refer to the printer manual for additional information.

Easy Print
Easily print your shots by connecting the camera to a PictBridge-compati\
ble 
printer (sold separately) with the USB cable.
1 Make sure the camera and 
printer are off.
2 Connect the camera to the 
printer.
zzOpen the cover. Holding the smaller 
cable plug in the orientation shown, insert 
the plug fully into the camera terminal.
zzConnect the larger cable plug to the 
printer. For other connection details, refer 
to the printer manual.

Cropping Images before PrintingBy cropping images before printing, you can print a desired image area 
instead of the entire image.
1 Choose [Cropping].
zzAfter following step 1 in “Configuring Print 
Settings” (=  128) to access the printing 
screen, choose [Cropping] and press the 
 button.
zzA cropping frame is now displayed, 
indicating the image area to print.
2 Adjust the cropping frame as 
needed.
zzTo resize the frame, move the zoom 
lever.
zzTo move the frame, press the 
 buttons.
zzTo rotate the frame, press the  
button.
zzPress the  button, press the 
 buttons to choose [OK], and 
then press the  button.
3 Print the image.
zzFollow step 7 in “Easy Print” ( =  128) 
to print.
•	 Cropping may not be possible at small image sizes, or at some 
aspect ratios.
•	 Dates may not be printed correctly if you crop images shot with 
[Date Stamp 
] selected.

Choosing Paper Size and Layout before Printing
1 Choose [Paper Settings].
zzAfter following step 1 in “Configuring Print 
Settings” (=  128) to access the printing 
screen, choose [Paper Settings] and 
press the  button.
2 Choose a paper size.
zzPress the  buttons to choose an 
option, and then press the < m> button.
3 Choose a type of paper.
