    CDP Overview
    CDPisadevicediscoveryprotocolthatrunsoverLayer2(thedata-linklayer)onallCisco-manufactured
    devices(routers,bridges,accessservers,controllers,andswitches)andallowsnetworkmanagementapplications
    todiscoverCiscodevicesthatareneighborsofalreadyknowndevices.WithCDP,networkmanagement
    applicationscanlearnthedevicetypeandtheSimpleNetworkManagementProtocol(SNMP)agentaddress
    ofneighboringdevicesrunninglower-layer,transparentprotocols.Thisfeatureenablesapplicationstosend

    Aswitchstackappearsasasingleswitchinthenetwork.Therefore,CDPdiscoverstheswitchstack,notthe
    individualstackmembers.TheswitchstacksendsCDPmessagestoneighboringnetworkdeviceswhenthere
    arechangestotheswitchstackmembership,suchasstackmembersbeingaddedorremoved.
