• Alarm Sound: Turns the alarm sound on or off. With this option set to 
On, an alarm tone sounds when an error occurs or fax communication 
ends.
• Speaker: Turns on or off the sounds fr om the telephone line through 
the speaker, such as a dial tone or a fax tone. With this option set to 
Comm.  which means “Common,” the speaker is on until the remote 
printer answers.

CHANGING THE SIZE OF THE PAPER IN THE 
PAPER TRAY
To load longer sizes of paper, such as Legal-sized paper, you need to 
adjust the paper guides to extend the paper tray.
To change the tray 1 size to other si ze, you must adjust the paper length 
guide properly.
1. Pull the tray 1 out of the printer. Open the paper cover and remove 
paper from the tray 1 if necessary.
2. Pressing and unlatching the guide lock in  the top of the tray, pull the tray 
out manually.

7. After loading paper, set the paper type  and size for the tray. See Setting 
the paper size and type on page 29. The tray is preset to Letter or A4 size, depending on your country. To

PRINTING ON SPECIAL PRINT MATERIALS
The printer can hold special sizes and types of print material, such as 
postcards, note cards, and envelopes. Es pecially, it is useful for single page 
printing on letterhead or colored paper.
Feeding the print material manually• Load only one size of print media at a time in the tray.
• To prevent paper jams, do not add paper  when there is still paper in the 
tray. This also applies to other types of print media.
