Before removing the top cover, follow these steps:
1.Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the
computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2.Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3.Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and
then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.

3.Remove the three Phillips PM2.5×3.0 screws (1) and the two Phillips PM2.5×3.0 broad-head
screws (2) that secure the top cover to the computer.
4.Turn the computer right side up, with rear panel toward you.
5.Lift the rear edge of the top cover until it rests at an angle.
6.Release the ZIF connector to which the TouchPad cable (1) is attached, and disconnect the
TouchPad cable from the ExpressCard board.
NOTE:The fingerprint reader board is available only on select models.

7.Disconnect the fingerprint reader board cable (2) from the ExpressCard board.
8.Remove the top cover.

1.Hold the top cover above the work surface.
2.Release the TouchPad assembly (1) by pushing up on the front edge of the assembly from
underneath the top cover.
3.Remove the TouchPad assembly (2) by sliding it up and forward at an angle
