^Screw the cap back on and mop up
any spilt rinsing agent. This prevents
    over-foaming occuring during the
    next programme.
    ^Wait until the indicator lightH/CHEM
on the control panel lights up again
    before adding any more rinsing
    agent.
    Setting the dosage
The dosage adjuster (see arrow) in the
opening has settings from 1 to 6
(1-6 ml). It is set to 3 (3 ml) at the fac-
    tory.
    ^
Use a higher setting if spots are left
    after drying.
    ^
If the surface becomes cloudy and
    streaky, use a lower setting.
    Rinsing agent
    21

If with time discolouration or rust spots
    appear on instruments, especially at
joints, a special neutralising agent can
be used (contact Miele Professional for
    advice if necessary).
    Neutralising agent (pH-level: acidic)
    neutralises residues of alkaline cleaning
agents on the surface of instruments
    and utensils.
It is automatically dispensed in the
    Rinse following the Thermal disinfection
or Cleaning cycle of a programme.
    The relevent programme (see
Programme Chart - DOS 3) can not be
started until the dispensing system has
    been vented.
(This function can only be cancelled by
    a Miele Service Engineer).
    ^Place the red
    container with neutral-
ising agent on the floor next to the
machine or in an adjoining cupboard.
When the Add neutralising agent indi-
cator lightwon the control panel lights
    up:
    ^
Fill the container (red) with neutralis-
ing agent, or change it for a new con-
tainer, and then:^Insert the siphon tube into the con
    -
    tainer (observe the colour code).
Please remember to fill the container in
good time, it should not be allowed to
    empty completely.
Setting the dosage and venting the
    dispensing system
    See Programming special functions
for setting the dosage amount and
    venting the dispensing system
    Important:
If the cleaning agent being used is
mildly alkaline you will need to use a
    phosphoric acid based neutralising
    agent.
If using a neutral enzyme based liquid
cleaning agent you will need to use a
    citric acid based neutralising agent.
    Adding neutralising agent
    22

    							A suitable low foaming disinfecting
agent is added to programme stage 5
    during the CHEM 60°C-5’ and
    combiCHEM 60°C-5’ programmes.
    Only possible ifDOS-Module G 60
(special accessory) is fitted and the
    dispensing system has been vented.
    ^Place the green
    container with disin
    -
fecting agent on the floor next to the
machine or in an adjoining cupboard.
On first commissioning or when theH/
    CHEM*indicator light on the control
    panel lights up.
    * Important:
    The H/ CHEM indicator
light will also light up if the rinsing agent
container is empty.^Fill the container (green) with disin
    -
fecting agent or change for a new
    one, and then:
^Insert the siphon tube into the con-
    tainer (observe the colour code).
Please remember to fill the container in
good time, it should not be allowed to
    empty completely.
    Setting the dosage
    See Programming special functions
for setting the dosage amount and
    venting the dispensing system.
    Adding chemical disinfecting agent (optional)
    23

    							Onlyuse cleaning agents suitable
for washer disinfectors. Do not use
    detergents formulated for domestic
    dishwashers.
We recommend using a liquid deter
    -
    gents, dispensed via the optional
DOS module (see "Note" on the next
    page).
This particularly important for the vario
    TD programme.
If liquid cleaning agent is not being
    used, powder cleaning agent
    must be
placed in the detergent dispenser be-
    fore every programme (except withD
    PRE-RINSE and6DRAIN).
    For the SPECIAL 93°C-10’ programme
see the notes in the Programme chart.
    ^
Press the opening catch on the con-
tainer (see arrow) forwards. The flap
will spring open. (The flap is always
open at the end of a programme).^Add powder cleaning agent to the
    compartment.
    Dosage:
    Approx. 3 g/l, or 30 g per
    batch.
Approx. 10.5 litres of water are used in
the wash programme sequence (or 16
    litres in the AN-Programme, depending
    on model).
    Follow detergent manufacturer’s in-
    structions if they differ.
    ^
    Close the dispenser lid.
    Adding cleaning agent
    24

Taking the effect on the environment
into consideration, please bear the fol
    -
lowing points in mind when selecting a
    cleaning agent:
^What level of alkalinity is required to
achieve the correct level of cleaning?
^Is active chlorine required for disin
    -
    fection or oxydation (pigment re
    -
    moval)?
    ^Are tensides required, in particular
    for dispersal and emulsification?
    ^A suitable mild alkaline detergent,
which does not contain active chlo
    -
rine, should be used for thermal dis-
    infection programmes.
Some types of soiling may require dif-
    ferent combinations of cleaning agents
and other additives. The Miele Profes-
sional Department will be pleased to
    advise you.
    Note
As a chargeable optional extra this ma-
chine can also be fitted with a dis-
penser pump for liquid cleaning agent
    (DOS-Module G 60). This is connected
    externally.
    See Programming special functions
for venting the dispensing system and
    setting the dosage.
The optional DOS Module is supplied
with its own installation and connection
    instructions.Maintenance of the dispensing
    system
To ensure trouble-free operation the fol
    -
    lowing regular maintenance should be
carried out by a Miele approved service
    technician.
    Every 12-18 months:
Replace the dispensing hoses in the
    DOS modules.
    Take care when handling liquid
    agents and additives. These may
    contain irritant or corrosive ingredi
    -
    ents.
    Follow the manufacturer’s safety in-
    structions and relevant Health and
    Safety procedures carefully.
    Wear protective gloves and goggles.
    Adding cleaning agent

    							This washer disinfector normally re
    -
quires a top and bottom basket.
Various inserts and special baskets are
also available for a wide variety of in
    -
    struments and utensils.
The diversity of inserts and baskets
means that it is not possible to illustrate
them all or give detailed instructions on
    their use here.
This machine complies with strict re
    -
    quirements for cleaning and disinfect
    -
ing, whereby long or narrow necked
    hollow instruments must be directly
    flushed with hot suds inside.
    Loading the machine
    Preparation
    ^Empty all containers before loading
    into the machine (paying particular
    attention to regulations regarding epi-
    demics).
,Ensure that no acid or solvent
    residues, especially hydrochloric
acid or chlorides get into the wash
    cabinet.
    Note
    ^
Load items so that water will come
into contact with all surfaces. This en-
sures that they will be properly
    cleaned.
    ^
Do not place items to be cleaned in-
side other pieces where they may be
concealed.^Hollow items should be inverted and
placed in the correct inserts. The wa
    -
ter must be able to access them un
    -
    hindered.
^Deep based items should be placed
at an angle to ensure good coverage
    of water.
^Tall, narrow pieces should be placed
in the centre of the baskets to ensure
    better water coverage.
^The spray arms must not be blocked
by items which are too tall or which
hang down in their path. If necessary,
manually rotate the arms to test.
^In order to avoid corrosion, it is rec-
ommended that only surgical steel in-
struments are cleaned in the ma-
    chine.
    ^Nickle plated instruments and col-
    oured anodised aluminium instru-
ments are not suitable for machine
    preparation.
    ^
    Use the CHEM 60°C-5’ and
    combiCHEM 60°C-5’ programme for
    instruments which cannot withstand
    heat (thermolabile).
    ^
    Disposable instruments must not be
put into the machine for processing.
    ^
Mobile units with adapters must en-
    gage correctly (see next page).
    Loading the machine
    26

^As soon as the programme finishes,
partially open the door of the ma
    -
chine (by about 10 cm) for 10 to 15
    mins. before unloading the ma
    -
chine. The residual heat in the ma
    -
chine will help achieve a good drying
    result and prevent instruments cor
    -
    roding (applies to machines without
    drying unit only).
^Adding neutralising agent to the in
    -
    terim rinse stage of some
    programmes, helps prevent discol
    -
ouration and rust spots appearing on
    the items being cleaned, especially
at the joints. If this measure is insuffi-
cient, contact your Miele dealer or
    the Miele Professional department for
    advice.
    ^Rigid endoscopes must be disman-
    tled according to manufacturer’s in-
structions. Caps and seals must be
removed and taps opened so that
they can be flushed through cor-
rectly. Endoscopes up to 50 cm total
length can be prepared in this ma-
chine e.g. in the O 176 upper basket.
Fibre optics and light cables must
only be processed in this machine if
the manufacturer has stated that they
    are suitable for thermal processing.
    They should be processed according
    to manufacturer’s instructions using
the varioTD NR programme with the
final rinse in fully demineralised wa-
    ter.
    ^
ENT: The thin chome plating on ear
funnels can be very sensitive to neu-
    tralising agents.Important:
Make sure that the water connection
    spring adapter engages correctly when
a basket or injector unit is inserted in
the machine. It must be 4-5 mm higher
than the water connection inlet in the
    machine.
    If it is not:
    ^Loosen the lock ring.
^Push up the adapter (4-5 mm higher
than the water connection inlet in the
machine) and tighten up the lock
    ring.
Select baskets and inserts which are
    appropriate for the application.
