Keypad Lock
Receiving Incoming Calls
When you receive an incoming phone call (see “Receiving a Phone Call” on 
page 62), Keypad Lock is temporarily disabled.
Receiving Nextel Direct Connect Calls
When you receive an incoming Private Call, Group Call, or Call Alert (see 
“Direct Connect” on page 103), Keypad Lock is temporarily disabled.

When New Text Message displays, press C under EXIT to return to 
the idle screen and reactivate Keypad Lock.

You can select My Info from the main menu to display or edit the following:
Name — Enter your name in this field.
Private ID — Your Private ID is displayed in this field. Your Private ID is 
your Nextel Direct Connect number and is composed of three parts: Area 
ID * Network ID * Member ID. For example: 999*999*9999.
NOTE: The asterisks are part of the Private ID.
Phone Numbers of Lines 1 and 2 — Your phone’s numbers are displayed

Using T9® Text Input
Using T9® Text Input
Your i30sx phone has embedded software, called T9® Text Input, that makes 
typing on a phone keypad much like typing on a computer keyboard: it 
eliminates the traditional “multi-tap” method of text entry. As you type, you 
press only one key per letter. T9 Text Input matches your keystrokes to words in 
its linguistic database of approximately 60,000 words and proper names. You 
may also store additional words you frequently use in your own user database,...

Choosing a Language
To change the language of the T9 Text Input database:
NOTE: This feature is not available when using T9 Text Input with 
Nextel Online services.
Using Alpha Mode
To enter text (letters and numbers) while in Alpha text entry mode:
Press any key on the alphanumeric keypad to enter the letters and numbers 
on that key. For example, to enter the letter Y, press 9 three times.

Special Key Functions
Some of your phone’s keys assume different functions while in T9 Text Input 
Word mode.
Backspace and Erase
Press 
C under DELETE once to backspace or to erase a single character. 
Press and hold C under DELETE to erase the entire text entry field.

R once to accept a word and insert a space when entering text.
Next Word in Database

0 to display more words in the database that match the keystroke 
sequence you entered.

To enter a word using Word mode: 
Adding Words to the User Database
To add words to the T9 database:
NOTE:  You cannot store alphanumeric combinations, such as Y2K.
1Choose Word as your text entry mode.
2Type a word by using one key press per desired letter.
For example, to type “test” press

To use Numeric text entry mode, choose Numeric as your text entry mode and 
press the number buttons on your keypad to enter numbers.
