    Call Alerts
    Placing a Call Alert from the Phonebook
    Ready to Alert Screen
    ReadytoAlertis used to confirm your request for the alert and to prompt you
    to push the PTT button:
    If you press the PTT button, the Call Alert is sent, and the phone displays
    theRecent Callsscreen.
    For Call Alerts placed from the keypad, pressingAunder CANCEL
    causes the phone to return to the dialing screen with the previously entered
    number displayed.
    For Call Alerts placed from the Phonebook, pressingAunder CANCEL
    causes the phone to return to thePhonebookscreen.
    If you do nothing, the phone will revert to the idle screen.
    1From the idle screen, pressm.
    2PressRto scroll toPhonebook.PressBunder SELECT.
    3From thePhonebookscreen, pressSto scroll to the Phonebook entry
    for the person you want to alert. If more than one number is stored for
    the entry, pressTuntil
    idisplays.
    4PressBunder ALERT. TheReady to
    Alertscreen appears.
    5Press and hold the PTT button untilAlert Successfuldisplays. The
    recipient’s phone sounds the alert intermittently until the user of the
    phone answers, queues, or clears the alert.

    Receiving Call Alerts
    When you receive a Call Alert, your phone emits a chirp and displays the name
    or number of the caller. You can answer, queue, or clear the Call Alert:
    To answer the Call Alert, press the PTT button and begin talking after the
    phone emits a chirping sound.
     To queue the Call Alert, press Bunder QUEUE.
     To clear the Call Alert, press Aunder CLEAR.
    
    USER TIP:You can turn down the Call Alert chirp volume by pressing
    the volume buttons on the side of your phone.
    Call Alert Queue
    Call Alert queuing enables you to save up to eight Call Alerts in a list, or queue.
    To store a Call Alert in the Call Alert Queue, press Bunder QUEUE when you
    receiveanincomingCallAlert.

    TofindoutthedateandtimeaCallAlertwasreceived:
    1From the idle screen, press m.
    2PressRto scroll to Call Alert.

    Call Alert.

    To sort your Call Alerts by the order they were received:
    Responding to a Call Alert From the Queue
    Deleting a Call Alert From the Queue
    To delete a Call Alert from the queue:
    1From theCall Alert Queuescreen, pressmto access theCall Alert
    Menu.
    2PressSto scroll toSort By.
    3PressBunder SELECT.
    4PressSto scroll toFirst on ToporLast on Top.
    5PressBunder SELECT.
    1From theCall Alert Queuescreen, pressSto scroll to the Call Alert
    you want to respond. You can respond by sending a Call Alert or
    placing a Private Call.
    2To send a Call Alert, pressBunder ALERT and then press the PTT
    button.
    Or,
    To place a Private Call, press the PTT button.
    The Call Alert will be removed from the queue.
    1From theCall Alert Queuescreen, pressSto scroll to the entry you
    want to delete.
    2Pressmto access theCall Alert Menu.

    To delete all Call Alerts from the queue:
    Group Call
    In a Group Call, you can communicate instantly with a group of people that you
    have previously set up as a Talkgroup. Group calls go out to all members of the
    Talkgroup at the same time.
    Your Nextel Sales Representative or Nextel Customer Care must set up your
    Talkgroups by providing you with a Talkgroup number for each Talkgroup.
    After you have the number, you can assign each Talkgroup number a name and
    store it in your phone (see“Storing a Talkgroup”on page 114).
    Your phone can store up to 30 Talkgroups. You can only make calls to
    Talkgroups in which you have been provisioned.

    5When the confirmation screen appears, pressBunder YES to delete
    the entry.
    1From theCall Alert Queuescreen, pressmto access theCall Alert
    Menu.
    2PressRto scroll toDelete All.

    4When the confirmation screen appears, pressBunder YES to delete
    all Call Alerts.
    1From the idle screen, pressm.
    2PressRto scroll toPhonebook.

    Making a Group Call from the Keypad

    6Enter the information as you would any other Phonebook entry. (See
    “Adding Phonebook Entries”on page 46.) When you get toTy p e,make
    sure that you selectTa l k g r o u p.
    7Enter the Talkgroup number. For example: 127.
    8When you have completed theEntry Details,pressAunder DONE.
    1Press#and then enter the Talkgroup number of the group that you
    want to call.
    2Press and hold the PTT button on the side of the phone, wait for your
    phone to emit a chirping sound, and speak.
    The phones of individuals in the Talkgroup may emit a chirping sound
    to alert them that someone is calling, or may simply emit the sound of
    your voice when you start speaking. If a phone receiving a Group call
    has Speakerphone set to On (see“Hands-Free Speakerphone”on page
    71), it will not emit a chirping sound before your voice.
    3Release the PTT button to listen.

    Making a Group Call from the Recent Calls List
    Receiving a Group Call
    When you receive an incoming Group call, your phone may emit a chirping
    sound followed by the voice of the person calling, or may simply emit the voice
    of the personal calling. If you have Speakerphone set to On (see“Hands-Free
    Speakerphone”on page 71) your phone will not chirp when you receive a Group
    call; you will simply hear the caller’s voice.
    2Press and hold the PTT button on the side of the phone, wait for your
    phone to emit a chirping sound, and speak.
    The phones of individuals in the Talkgroup may emit a chirping sound
    to alert them that someone is calling, or may simply emit the sound of
    your voice when you start speaking. If a phone receiving a Group call
    has Speakerphone set to On (see“Hands-Free Speakerphone”on page
    71), it will not emit a chirping sound before your voice.

    Group Call
    To respond to a Group Call:
    Joining a Group Call
    Although you may be provisioned in more than one Talkgroup, you can only
    participate in one Group Call at a time. When you join a new Group Call, you no
    longer belong to your previous Group Call.
    To join on ongoing Group Call:
    1Wait for the caller to finish speaking.
    2Press and hold the PTT button to begin talking after the phone emits a
    chirping sound.
    3Release the PTT button to listen
    1Using the keypad, press#and then enter the Talkgroup number.
    Or,
    From thePhonebookscreen, pressRto scroll to the name of the
    Talkgroup you want to join.
    Or,
    If the Talkgroup you want to join is on your Recent Call list, go to the
    Recent Callsscreen and pressRto scroll to the name of the Talkgroup
    youwanttojoin.

    Group-Silent Programming
    Group-Silent programming enables you to silence incoming Group Calls and
    voice communication.
    Turning Group-Silent On or Off
    1From the idle screen, pressm.
    2PressRto scroll toSettings.PressBunder SELECT.
    3PressRto scroll toTkgrp Settings.PressBunder SELECT.
    4With theSilentfield highlighted, pressBunder CHANGE.

    GPS Enabled
    Your phone’s GPS Enabled feature uses information from Global Positioning
    System (GPS) satellites orbiting the Earth to determine the approximate
    geographical location of your phone, expressed as latitude and longitude. The
    availability and accuracy of this location information (and the amount of time
    that it takes to calculate it) will vary depending on the environment in which you
    are using the GPS feature. For example, GPS location fixes are often difficult to
    obtain indoors, in covered locations, between high buildings, or in other
    situations where you have not established a clear broad view of the sky.SEE:
    “IMPORTANT: Things to Keep in Mind”on page 120.
    When you make a 911 emergency call, the phone’s GPS feature can help
    emergency personnel locate you if your phone has adequate access to GPS
    satellite signals and your emergency response center is equipped to process such
    information.
    You can also use the GPS feature to view your approximate location. Location
    information appears on your phone’s display screen.
    Java applications loaded on your phone can also request your location. If your
    phone is connected to a laptop computer or similar device, software running on
    that device can request your location. To protect your privacy, you can control
    whether these requests are granted.

    IMPORTANT: Things to Keep in Mind
    If you are using your phone’s GPS feature while driving, please give full
    attentiontodrivingandtotheroad.
    Where adequate signals from multiple satellites are not available(usually
    because your GPS antenna cannot establish a view of a wide area of open sky),
    the GPS feature of your phone WILL NOT WORK. Such situations include
    butarenotlimitedto:
    In underground locations.
    Inside of buildings, trains, or other covered vehicles.
    Under any other metal or concrete roof or structure.
    Between tall buildings or under dense tree-cover.
    Near a powerful radio or television tower.
    When your GPS antenna is covered (for example, by your hand or
    other object) or facing the ground.
    Temperature extremes outside the operating limits of the phone.
    Walking or driving very slowly may also substantially reduce GPS
    performance.
    Even where location information can be calculated in such situations, it
    may take much longer to do so, and your location estimate may not be as
    accurate. Therefore, in any 911 call, always report the location to the
    emergency response center if you can and if you cannot, remain on the
    phone for as long as the emergency response center instructs you.
    Even where adequate signals from multiple satellites are available, your
    GPS feature will only provide an approximate location, often within 150
    feet (45 meters) but sometimes much further from your actual location.
    Advice on how to improve GPS performance is provided in“Enhancing
    GPS Performance”on page 124.
    While the GPS feature of your phone can be a valuable navigational aid, it does
    not replace the need for careful navigating and good judgment.Never rely
    solely on one device for navigation.Remember that the accuracy of the
    location information and the time needed to obtain it will vary depending on
    circumstances, particularly the ability to receive signals from adequate numbers
    of satellites.
    On emergency calls, your phone uses assistance information from the phone
    network to improve the speed and accuracy of the phone’s location calculation:
    if such assistance information becomes unavailable, it may reduce the speed and
    accuracy of the location calculation.
