    Displaying the life of supplies and coverage of toner 
    This menu shows how much percentage of each consumable life remains to 
    be used. Please note that the values shown here is just the approximate 
    value and are not always correct. So the consumable wearing warning 
    message might occur regardless of the displayed values.  
    Page Count  
    —It shows the pages your KX-P8420 has printed since your 
    purchase of the printer.  
    Toner Cartridge  
    —It shows the percentage of CYAN, MAGENTA, YELLOW 
    and BLACK toner cartridges remaining.

    Clearing media jams 
    If the printer has frequent media jams, make sure that you follow these 
    guidelines: 
    • 
    Always use high-quality laser paper and transparencies. See pages 207 
    and 209. 
    • 
    Make sure that you load specialty media only in the multi-purpose tray 
    and that you set the media thickness switch to the correct setting for the 
    media used.
    If a media jam occurs, the printer panel reports  
    JAM AT

     are the various sensors throughout the paper path, shown as 
    A through E in the illustration below.

    To clear media jams in location A:
    1Open the left side door corresponding to the selected 
    media tray and remove the jammed media.
    2Close the left side door.
    OR
    1Remove the media tray.
    2Remove the jammed media from inside the printer.
    3Reinsert the media tray.
    4Open and close the front door to clear the error 
    message from the LCD.

    To clear media jams in the 2nd cassette feeder:
    1Open the lower left side door.
    2Remove the jammed media.
    3Close the lower left side door.
    OR
    1Remove the selected media tray (middle or lower media 
    tray).

    Remove the jammed media from inside the printer.

    Reinsert the media tray. 
    4 
    Open and close the front door to clear the error 
    message from the LCD. 
    To clear media jams in location B with multi-purpose tray: 
    1 
    Remove the jammed media from the multi-purpose tray. 
    2 
    Open and close the front door to clear the error 
    message from the front panel.
    NOTE:
     
    •
     
    A few sheets of paper printed after clearing media jam may be dirty.
     
    To clear media jams in location B with media tray: 
    1 
    Open the left side door.

    Use the green handles to pull out the paper feeder. 
    3 
    Remove the jammed media on the paper feeder. 
    4 
    Reinsert the paper feeder and close the left side door. 
    To clear media jams in location C: 
    1 
    a 
    ) Open the printer front door. 
    b 
    ) Turn the fuser’s large green knob counterclockwise 
    and remove the jammed media. 
    The jammed media will go out from inside the printer.
    If the jammed media does not go out, proceed to the step 4. 
    .
    SAFETY CAUTION:
     
    • 
    The fuser is hot; to avoid personal injury, turn off the printer and 
    wait 10 minutes (after opening the front door) for the fuser to cool 
    before touching it.

    Clear the error message from the LCD.

    ) Turn the small green thumbscrew counterclockwise 
    to unlock the fuser. 
    b 
    ) Holding the green tab on the right, slide the fuser out 
    until the safety catch stops it.

    ) Slide the fuser back into the printer.

    Turn the small green thumbscrew clockwise to lock the 
    fuser. 
    You do not need to proceed to the following steps, if a media jam is 
    cleared.

    Turn the small green thumbscrew counterclockwise to 
    unlock the fuser.

    CAUTION:

    5a) Holding the green tab on the right, slide the fuser out
    until the safety catch stops it.
    b) Press the green lever on the left to release the safety 
    catch.
    6a) Hold the fuser as shown below, and slide it out of the 
    printer.
    b) Close the front door.
    SAFETY CAUTIONS:
    •The fuser unit weighs approximately 3.1 kg {6.8 lbs.}. Take care 
    when handling it.
    •Do not touch the roller and the parts around the roller when 
    handling the fuser, because they may be hot.

    7Remove the oil supply roll.
    a) Press out on tabs to unlock the oil supply roll.
    b) Remove the oil supply roll out of the fuser.
    NOTE:
    •If the paper is not jammed in the fuser unit, perform the following. 
    1. Repeat steps 1 to 4 of the procedure on page 156-157.
    2. Skip the steps 8 to 10 and go to step 11.
    8Remove the cleaning pad, holding the tabs.
