    Q&A Troubleshooting
Try checking these items (→84 - 89) first.
If the problem persists, performing [Reset] in the [Setup] menu may reso\
    lve the issue.
(Note that except for some items such as [Clock Set], all settings are \
    returned to their
values at the time of purchase.)
    Battery, power
The charging lamp turns off before the battery is fully charged.
●Charging is being performed in a place with extremely high or low temper\
    ature.
→ Reconnect the USB connection cable (supplied) and retry charging in a \
    place where ambient
    temperature is 10 °C to 30 °C (50 °F to 86 °F) (temperatu\
re conditions also apply to the battery
itself). (When the USB connection cable is reconnected after the batte\
    ry is fully charged, the
charging lamp will light for approximately 1 minute.)
Camera does not work even if the camera is turned on.
●Battery is not inserted correctly (→12), or needs recharging.
LCD monitor shuts off even if the camera is turned on.
Camera switches off as soon as the camera is turned on.

    ●Battery needs recharging.
●[Auto Power Off] is activated (→39).
→ Press the Camera [ON/OFF] button.

    Cannot record pictures.
    ●Built-in memory/card is full.
→ Free space by deleting unwanted pictures ( →35).
    Recorded pictures look white.
    ●Lens is dirty (fingerprints, etc.).
→ Clean lens surface with a soft, dry cloth.

    ●Lens is foggy (→5).
Recorded pictures are too bright/too dark.
    ●Adjust the exposure ( →48).
Some pictures are taken when I press the shutter button just once.
    ●Camera is set to [Burst].
    Focus not aligned correctly.
●Not set to mode appropriate for distance to subject. (Focus range varie\
    s according to recording

    Q&A Troubleshooting
    Recording (continued)
    Recorded pictures are blurred.
●Shutter speed is slower in dark locations and a picture is prone to blur\
    ring.
→ Hold camera firmly with both hands, keeping arms close to body.
      → Set [Sensitivity] to [
     ] and [Digital Zoom] to [OFF]. ( →57, 60)
Recorded pictures appear coarse, or there is interference.
●ISO Sensitivity is high, or shutter speed is low.
(Default [Sensitivity] setting is [ ] – interference may appear with indoor pictures.)
      → Lower [Sensitivity] (→57).
→ Take pictures in brighter locations.

●Camera set to [High Sens.] Scene mode.
(Picture becomes slightly coarser in response to high sensitivity)
Brightness or coloring of recorded picture different from real life.
●When recording under fluorescent or LED lighting fixture etc., increasin\
    g the shutter speed may
introduce slight changes to brightness and color. These are a result of the characteristics of the light
source and do not indicate a malfunction.
Red banding may appear on the LCD monitor or part or the entire
screen may have a reddish tint, when recording or pressing the shutter
    button halfway.

●This is a characteristic of CCD and may appear if subject contains brigh\
    ter
areas. Some blurring may occur around these areas, but this is not a fau\
    lt. This
will be recorded in panorama pictures or motion pictures but not in stil\
    l pictures.

●We recommend keeping the screen away from strong light sources such as
    sunlight when taking pictures.
     Motion picture recording stops midway.
●With some cards, access display may appear briefly after recording, and \
    recording may end midway.
●If recording stops even when using a card of the recommended speed class\
     ( →17), the data writing
speed has dropped. If this happens, we recommend backing up the data on \
    the memory card and
    formatting it (→41).
Panorama picture recording stops before finishing.
●If the pan motion of the camera is too slow, the camera assumes that the operation has been
    aborted and stops recording.

●If the pan motion of the camera is too shaky when it is moved toward the\
     recording direction, the
    camera stops recording.
→ To record panorama pictures, pan the camera in a small semi-circular moti\
    on parallel to the
recording direction at a speed of approx. 4 seconds per stroke (suggest\
    ed).
    The beep volume is low.
    ●The speaker is blocked.

    Q&A Troubleshooting
    LCD monitor
    Brightness is unstable.
●Aperture value is set while shutter button is pressed halfway. (Does not affect recorded picture.)
This symptom may also occur when the brightness changes because the zoom\
     is operated or the
camera is moved. This is the automatic aperture operation of the camera and is not a malf\
    unction.
    Monitor flickers indoors.
●If the LCD monitor flickers when you record pictures under lighting such\
     as fluorescent or LED
lighting, use [Light Freq.] in the [Setup] menu to set the utility frequ\
ency of the area where you are
    using the camera. ( →40)
Black/blue/red/green dots or interference appears. Monitor looks distort\
    ed when
    touched.

●This is not a fault, and will not be recorded on the actual pictures.
    Flash
    No flash emitted.
●Flash set to [Forced Flash Off] ( →45).
●The flash becomes unavailable in the following cases :
     • [Burst] (Other than when using [Flash Burst])
     • Scene Modes ([Scenery] [Night Scenery] [Sunset])
     • [Panorama Shot] Mode
    Multiple flashes are emitted.
●Red-eye reduction is active ( →45). (Flashes twice to prevent eyes appearing red.)
    ●[Flash Burst] is used (→61).
    Playback
Cannot view pictures. There are no recorded pictures.
    ●Press the Playback button.
●No pictures in built-in memory or card (pictures played from card if in\
    serted, from built-in memory if
    not).

●Has the file name of the picture been changed on a computer? If so, it c\
annot be played back on the
    camera.

●The [Playback Mode] has been changed.
→ Set [Playback Mode] to [Normal Play] (→64).
Folder/file number displayed as [-]. Picture is black.
●Picture edited on computer or taken with different device.
●Battery removed immediately after picture taken, or picture taken with l\
    ow battery.
→ Use [Format] to delete (→41).

    Q&A Troubleshooting
    Playback (continued)
    Incorrect date displayed in [Calendar].
●Picture edited on computer or taken on different device.
    ●[Clock Set] is incorrect (→19).
(Incorrect date may be displayed in [Calendar] on pictures copied to a \
    computer and then back to
the camera, if computer and camera dates differ.)
The Playback volume and beep volume are low.
    ●The speaker is blocked.
White round spots like soap bubbles appear on the recorded picture.
●If you take a picture with the flash in a dark place or indoors, white r\
    ound spots may
appear on the picture caused by the flash reflecting particles of dust i\
    n the air. This is
not a fault. A characteristic of this is that the number of round spots and their posi\
    tion
    differ in every picture.
[Thumbnail is displayed] is shown on the screen.
●The pictures may have been recorded on another device. If so, they may b\
    e displayed with poor
    picture quality.
Red areas in pictures appear blackened.
●When digital red-eye correction (, ) is operating, if a subject is recorded that has skin-
colored areas with red areas inside, the digital red-eye correction func\
    tion may blacken the red
    areas.
→ We recommend setting the flash to
, or , or [Red-Eye Removal] to [OFF] before
    recording. ( →45)
The sound of the recorded motion pictures sometimes breaks up.
●This unit automatically adjusts the aperture during motion picture recor\
    ding. At such times, the
sound may break up. This is not a malfunction.
Motion pictures recorded on this camera cannot be played on other device\
    s.
●Motion pictures (Motion JPEG) recorded with this camera may not be pla\
    yed on digital cameras of
other manufacturers. Additionally, motion pictures recorded with this camera cannot be played on
Panasonic LUMIX digital cameras sold before July 2008. (However, motion pictures recorded with
LUMIX digital cameras sold before this date can be played on this camera\
    .)
