    The yellow range shown in the left figure is 
    the range for which the image is sharp.
     • The range for which the image is sharp changes based on the distance to the 
    focused subject and the zoom condition, 
    etc.
     ●When you record motion pictures, the camera performs aperture control within the 
    appropriate exposure range, and the background defocusing may not change for 
    some subject brightness.

    About flash

     ■Closing the built-in flash
    When you do not want to use the flash or after 
    using the flash, press down to retract the flash 
    until it clicks.

    [Color Mode]
    When you change the [Color Mode] setting in the [Rec] menu, you can change the color 
    of still pictures and motion pictures to be recorded.

    Setting Description
    [STANDARD] Records pictures with colors close to the actual colors.
    [Happy] Records pictures with sharp and vivid colors.
    [B&W] Records pictures in black and white monotones.
    [SEPIA] Records pictures with sepia tones to produce a nostalgic effect.
    [Motion Deblur]
    The camera automatically sets the optimum shutter speed in accordance with the 
    movements of the subject to minimize the blur of the subject.

     ●When [Motion Deblur] is set to [ON], and the shutter button is pressed halfway ,  
    appears on the screen.
     ●The subject may be recorded in a picture size smaller than the number of pixels that 
    has been set.
    [iHandheld Nite Shot]
    If a night scene is detected automatically while the camera is handheld, the camera can 
    record the still picture with less jitter and less noise by combining a burst of pictures.

     ●When the camera is fixed in place on a tripod or by other means, [iHandheld Nite

    [iHDR]
    When [iHDR] is set to [ON] and there is, for example, strong contrast between the 
    background and the subject, multiple still pictures are recorded with dif fering exposures 
    and combined to create a single still picture rich in gradation.

     ●This function is automatically activated only when  (→49) is displayed on the LCD 
    monitor.
     ●In the case that a single picture is going to be composed from a burst, a message 
    indicating that multiple pictures are to be recorded appears on the screen and burst 
    recording is carried out. Note that burst recording will not take place if the camera 
    determines that it can compensate for the difference in contrast without composing 
    the picture from a burst.
     ●In the case of composition from a burst, afterimages may appear if the subject was 
    moving.
     ●The camera does not combine pictures in the following cases: • When the zoom ratio exceeds 3.8x • [Burst Shooting] mode

    AF Tracking
    In [Intelligent Auto] Mode, you can select [AF Tracking] in [AF Mode] in a single operation. 
    When [AF Tracking] mode is used, the camera can continuously focus on a subject and 
    adjust the exposure of the subject even when the subject is moving.
     ●The optimal scene for the AF locked subject is automatically identified. ●Face Recognition will be inactive while using AF Tracking. ●Under certain recording conditions, such as when the subject is small or when it is 
    dark, [AF Tracking] may not operate correctly.
    Press  to set [AF Tracking]
     • To cancel AF Tracking → Press  again.

    [Intelligent Auto Plus] Mode
    When [Intelligent Auto Plus] mode is selected, you can easily adjust the brightness and 
    coloring, in addition to the background defocusing, without compromising the user-friendly 
    operation of the [Intelligent Auto] Mode.

    You can take pictures with your own settings by changing the color tone, ISO Sensitivity 
    and other settings under the [Rec] menu and other menus.

     ●If aperture and shutter speed are shown in red, you 
    do not have appropriate exposure. You should either 
    use the flash, change [Sensitivity] settings or set 
    [Min. Shtr Speed] to a slower speed.

    Program Shift
    The function for maintaining the same exposure (brightness) while changing the shutter 
    speed and aperture value combination is called “Program Shift”.  You can use “Program 
    Shift” to take pictures by adjusting the shutter speed and aperture value even in [Program 
    AE] Mode.

    You can preset the camera to select the maximum aperture or an aperture value that 
    achieves the best lens resolution as a combination of shutter speed and aperture value.

    When recording, you can control the aperture value to meet your recording purposes.
    Shutter speed is automatically adjusted to be appropriate for the set aperture value.

     ●The aperture ring rotates only within the range of the printed indicators. ●Since the maximum aperture value changes in accordance with the zoom setting, the 
    printed indication on the aperture ring and the actual aperture value may be dif ferent. 
    Refer to the exposure meter for the aperture value when you take a picture.
     ●When the picture is too bright or too dark or there is incorrect exposure, the numbers 
    for the aperture value and shutter speed are shown in red.
     ●LCD monitor brightness may vary from the actual still picture recorded.
    Rotate the aperture ring to select 
    the aperture value
    You can set the aperture values between 
    [1.4] and [8] in 1/3-stop increments.
    (Set the aperture ring where it clicks.)
    Exposure meter
     • When the aperture value is increased, the  range of depth in focus expands, and the 
    picture shows up clearly from the position of 
    the camera to the background.
     • When the aperture value is reduced, the range of depth in focus shrinks, and the 
    background can get blurry
