    Play a disc
    The home theater can play a wide variety of 
    discs, including video, audio and mixed media (for 
    example, a CD-R that contains JPEG pictures and 
    MP3 music).
    1 Inser t a disc into the home theater.
    2 Press  DISC.
     
    » The disc plays or the disc main menu

    3 Press the following but tons to control play:

    Synchronize audio with video
    If the audio and video are not synchronized, you 
    can delay the audio to match the video.
    1 Press and hold AUDIO SYNC  until the 
    audio sync message appears on the display 
    panel.
    2  Press  +/- within five seconds to sync the 
    audio with your video.
    Quick skip play to a specific time
    Quick skip to a specific par t of a video by 
    entering the time of a scene.
    1  During video play, press  INFO .
    2 Press the Navigation buttons and OK  to 
    select:
    • [ T T Time]  : Title time.• [Ch Time] : Chapter time.• [Disc Time]  : Disc time.• [Track Time] : Track time.
    3 Enter the time of the scene, then press OK .
    Play from radio
    The home theater can store up to 40 radio 
    stations.
    1 Check that the FM antenna is connected.
    2 Press  RADIO .
     
    » “AUTO INSTALL...PRESS PLAY’ appears 
    on the display panel if you have not 
    installed any radio stations. Press 
    .
    3 Press the following but tons to control play:
    Button Action
     / Selects a preset radio station.
     / Searches for a radio station.
     Fine tunes a radio frequency.
    Press and hold to erase the 
    preset radio station.
    Press to stop the installation of 
    radio stations.
    PROGRAM Manual: Press once to access 
    program mode, and press again 
    to store the radio station.
    Automatic: Press and hold for 
    five seconds to reinstall radio 
    stations.
    Play from a USB storage device
    The home theater is fitted with a USB connector 
    that allows you to view pictures, listen to music or 
    watch movies stored on a USB storage device.
    1 Connect the USB storage device to the 
    home theater.
    2 Press  USB.
     
    » A content browser appears.
    3 Select a file, then press OK .
    4 Press the playback but tons to control play 
    (see ‘Play a disc’ on page 11).
    Note
     
    •
    If the USB storage device does not fit into the 
    connector, use a USB extension cable.
     
    •The home theater does not suppor t digital 
    cameras that need a computer program to 
    display photos.
     
    •The USB storage device must be FAT or DOS -
    format ted, and Mass Storage Class compliant.
    More play features for disc or 
    USB
    Several advanced features are available for video 
    or picture playback from a disc or USB storage 
    device.
    Play a musical slideshow
    Play music and pictures simultaneously to create 
    a musical slideshow. The files must be stored on 
    the same disc or USB storage device.
    1  Select a music track, then press OK .
    2 Press  BACK  and go to the picture 
    f o l d e r.
    3  Select a picture, then press OK  to star t 
    slideshow.
    4  Press  to stop slideshow.
    5 Press  again to stop music.

    5 Select the set tings in the [OPTIONS]  panel, 
    then press OK .
    • [Speed] : Selects the write-to-file 
    speed.
    • [Bitrate]  : Selects the conversion 
    quality.
    • [CRT ID3]  : Copies information on the 
    tracks in the MP3 files. 
    • [Device]  : Selects the USB device 
    which you use to store the MP3 files.
    6  Press  to access the [ TR ACK]  panel.
    7 Select an audio track, then press OK .
    • [Select All] : Selects all tracks.• [Deselect all ] : De-selects all tracks.
    8 Select  [St ar t] in the menu to conver t, then 
    press OK . 
     
    » A new folder is created in the USB 
    storage device to store all the new MP3 
    audio files.
    • To exit the menu, select [E xit]  and 
    press OK .
    Note
     
    •
    During the conversion process, do not press 
    any but tons. 
     
    •DTS CDs and copy-protected CDs cannot be 
    conver ted.
     
    •Write-protected or password-protected USB 
    storage device cannot be used to store MP3 
    files. 
    Note
     
    •
    AM and digital radio are not suppor ted. 
    •If no stereo signal is detected, you are 
    prompted to install the radio stations again.
     
    •For the best reception, place the antenna away 
    from the T V or other sources of radiation.
    Play audio from TV or other 
    devices
    Press AUDIO SOURCE  repeatedly to select 
    the audio output of the connected device (see 
    ‘Connect audio from T V or other devices’ on 
    page 10). 
    Create MP3 audio files
    Use the home theater to conver t audio CDs into 
    MP3 audio files. 
    1  Inser t an audio CD (CDDA /HDCD) into 
    the home theater.
    2 Connect a USB storage device to the home 
    theater.
    3 When audio is played, press C R E AT E  M P 3 . 
    4 Select  [ Ye s] and press OK  to confirm.

    Change general settings
    1 Press  SETUP .
    2 Select  [General Setup] , then press OK.
    3 Select and adjust the following set tings:
    • [Disc Lock]  : Restricts play to disc. 
    Password (PIN code) is required to 
    unlock the disc before play.
    • [Display Dim]  : Changes the brightness 
    of the display panel.
    • [OSD Language]  : Selects the on-
    screen display menu language.
    • [Screen Saver] : Enables or disables 
    screen saver mode. If enabled, the 
    screen enters idle mode af ter 10 
    minutes of inactivity (for example, in 
    pause or stop mode).
    • [Sleep Timer]  : Sets a sleep timer to 
    switch the home theater to standby 
    af ter a specific time.
    • [Auto St andby]  : Enables or disables 
    auto standby. If enabled, the home 
    theater switches to standby af ter 30 
    minutes of inactivity (for example, in 
    pause or stop mode).
    • [DivX(R) VOD Code] : Displays the 
    DivX VOD registration code for the 
    home theater.
    4  Press  OK to confirm your choice.
    Note
     
    •
    Before you purchase DivX videos and play 
    them on the home theater, register the home 
    theater on w w w.div x.com using the DivX 
    VOD code.
    Change audio settings
    1  Press  SETUP .
    2 Select  [Audio Setup] , then press OK . 
    3 Select and adjust the following set tings:
    • [Speakers Volume] : Sets the volume 
    of each speaker to obtain the ideal 
    audio balance.
    • [Speakers Delay]  : Sets the delay time 
    for center and rear speakers to obtain 
    an equal audio transmission from all 
    the speakers.
    • [HDM I Audio]  : Enables or disables 
    HDMI audio output for the T V.
    6  Change settings
    This section helps you to change the settings of 
    your home theater. 
    Caution
     
    •
    Most of the set tings are already configured 
    with the best value for the home theater. 
    Unless you have a specific reason to change a 
    set ting, it is best to leave it at the default value.
    Access the setup menu
    1  Press  SETUP .
     
    » The following menu appears.

    Change preference settings
    1 Press  SETUP .
    2 Select  [Preference Setup] , then press OK.
    3 Select and adjust the following set tings:
    • [Audio]  : Selects audio language for 
    video.
    • [Subtitle]  : Selects subtitle language for 
    video.
    • [Disc Menu]  : Selects menu language 
    for video disc.
    • [Parental]  : Restricts access to discs 
    that are recorded with ratings. To 
    play all discs irrespective of the rating, 
    select level ‘8’.
    • [PBC]  : Displays or skips the content 
    menu for VCD and SVCD discs.
    • [MP3/JPEG Display]  : Displays the 
    MP3/JPEG folders or all the files.
    • [Password]  : Sets or changes a PIN 
    code to play a restricted disc. Enter 
    ‘ 0000 ’ if you do not have a PIN or if 
    you have forgot ten your PIN.
    • [DivX Subtitle] : Selects a character 
    set that suppor ts the DivX subtitle.
    • [Version Info.]  : Displays the sof tware 
    version for the home theater.
    • [Default]  : Resets the home theater to 
    the default set tings programmed at the 
    fac tor y.
    4  Press  OK to confirm your choice.
    Note
     
    •
    If your preferred disc language is not available, 
    you can select [O thers]  from the list and enter 
    the 4-digit language code which can be found 
    at the back of this manual. 
     
    •If you select a language that is not available 
    on a disc, the home theater uses the default 
    language of the disc.
     
    •You cannot reset disc lock , password (PIN 
    code) and parental control set tings to their 
    default values.
    • [Audio Sync]  : Sets a delay for audio 
    output when you play a video disc.
    • [ Prologic II Mode ] : Selects a 5.1 
    surround sound mode to suit your 
    video or music.
    4  Press  OK to confirm your choice.
    Note
     
    •
    For set tings related to HDMI, the T V must be 
    connected through HDMI.
    Change video settings
    1  Press  SETUP .
    2 Select  [Video Setup] , then press OK .
    3 Select and adjust the following set tings:
    • [TV System]  : Selects a T V system that 
    is compatible with the T V.
    • [TV Display]  : Selects a picture display 
    format to fit the T V screen.
    • [Picture Settings]  : Selects a 
    predefined color set ting.
    • [HDMI Setup]  : Selects HDMI video 
    resolution and the wide screen display 
    format for the T V. The Wide Screen 
    Display option is only available for 16:9 
    wide screen T V display set ting.
    • [HD JPEG] : Enables or disables display 
    of high definition JPEG images.
    4  Press  OK to confirm your choice.
    Note
     
    •
    The best set ting is automatically selected for 
    the T V. If you need to change the set ting, 
    ensure that the T V suppor ts the new set ting.
     
    •Some video set tings depend on the video 
    source, ensure that the disc and the T V 
    suppor t the setting or feature.
     
    •For set tings related to HDMI, the T V must be 
    connected through HDMI.

    To check for new updates, compare the current 
    software version of your home theater with the 
    latest software version (if available) on the Philips 
    web site.
    Check software version
    1 Press  SETUP .
    2 Select  [Preference Setup]  > [Version Info.], 
    then press OK .
     
    » The software version is displayed.
    Update software from a CD-R 
    or USB
    1 Check for the latest sof tware version on 
    www.philips.com/suppor t.
    • Search for your model and click on 
    ‘software&drivers’.
    2 Download the sof tware onto a CD-R or 
    USB storage device.
    3 Inser t the CD-R or connect the USB 
    storage device to the home theater.
    4 Follow the instructions on the T V to 
    confirm the update.
     
    » When complete, the home theater 
    automatically switches off and on again.
    • If not, disconnect the power cord for a few 
    seconds and then reconnect it.
    Caution
     
    •
    Do not turn off the power or remove the 
    CD-R or USB storage device when the 
    sof tware update is in progress because you 
    might damage the home theater.

    Sound
    No sound. 
    • Ensure that the audio cables are connected 
    and select the correct input source (for 
    example, AUDIO SOURCE ) for the device 
    you want to play.
    No sound on HDMI connection.  
    • You might not hear any sound if the 
    connected device is not HDCP (High-
    bandwidth Digital Content Protection) 
    compliant or only DVI compatible. Use an 
    analog or digital audio connection.
     
    • Ensure that the [HDM I Audio]  is enabled.
    No sound from TV program.  
    • Connect an audio cable from the audio 
    input on the home theater to the audio 
    output on the T V, then press AUDIO 
    SOURCE  repeatedly to select the correct 
    audio source.
    Distorted sound or echo.  
    • Ensure that the T V volume is muted or set 
    to minimum if you are playing audio through 
    the home theater.
    Audio and video are not synchronized.  
    • 1) Press and hold AUDIO SYNC . 2) Press 
    +/-  within five seconds.
    Play
    Disc cannot be played. 
     
    • Clean the disc.
     
    • Ensure that the home theater suppor ts the 
    disc (see ‘Product specifications’ on page 
    16).
     
    • Ensure that the home theater suppor ts the 
    region code of the DVD.
     
    • For DVD±RW or DVD±R , ensure that the 
    disc is finalized.
    DivX video files cannot be played.  
    • Ensure that the DivX file is encoded 
    according to the ‘Home Theater Profile’ 
    with the DivX encoder.
     
    • Ensure that the DivX video file is complete.
    DivX subtitles do not display correctly.  
    • Ensure that the subtitle file name is the 
    same as the movie file name.
     
    • Select the correct character set: 1) Press 
     SETUP . 2) Select  [Preference Setup] . 
    3) Select [DivX Subtitle] . 4) Select a 
    suppor ted character set. 5) Press OK .
    9 Troubleshooting
    Warning
     
    •

    casing of the product. 
    To keep the warranty valid, never tr y to repair the 
    product yourself. 
    If you have problems using this product, check the 
    following points before you request ser vice. If you 
    still have a problem, register your product and get 
    suppor t at www.philips.com/welcome. 
    If you contact Philips, you will be asked for the 
    model and serial number of your product. The 
    model number and serial number are on the back 
    or bottom of your product. Write the numbers

    The buttons on this home theater do not work.
     
    • Disconnect the home theater from the 
    power outlet for a few minutes, then 
    reconnect. 
    Picture
    No picture.
     
    • Ensure that the T V is switched to the 
    correct source for this home theater.
     
    • If this happens when you change the T V 
    system, switch to its default mode: 1) Press 
     to open the disc compar tment. 2) Press 
    the Numeric buttons ’3’. 
     
    • If this happens when you switch on the 
    progressive scan mode, switch to its 
    default mode: 1) Press 
     to open the 
    disc compar tment. 2) Press the Numeric 
    buttons ’1’. 
    No picture on HDMI connection.  
    • Check if the HDMI cable is faulty. Replace 
    with a new HDMI cable.
     
    • If this happens when you change the HDMI 
    video resolution, switch to its default mode: 
    1) Press 
     to open the disc compar tment.  
    2) Press the Numeric buttons  ‘1’.

    • Ensure that the format of the USB storage 
    device is compatible with the home theater 
    (see ‘Product specifications’ on page 16).
