    xHP.THEATER
    (Headphone Theater)
When you connect your headphones to the
    PHONES jack of the system,
the HP. THEATER mode allows you to
experience a theater like environment while
listening through a pair of headphones. This
mode is very effective with 5.1 ch discreet
signal sources like Dolby Digital and DTS.
Selecting any Sound Field (except A.F.D or
    2CH STEREO) enables the mode.
*“VIRTUAL” sound field: Sound field with
    virtual speakers. xV.MULTI D.*
    (Virtual Multi Dimension)
Uses 3D sound imaging to create an array of
virtual rear speakers positioned higher than
the listener from a single pair of actual rear
speakers. This mode creates 5 sets of virtual
    speakers surrounding the listener at
approximately a 30° angle of elevation.
    xV.S.M.D.*
    (Virtual Semi Multi Dimension)
Uses 3D sound imaging to create virtual rear
speakers from the sound of the front
speakers without using actual rear speakers.
This mode creates 5 sets of virtual speakers
surrounding the listener at a 30° angle of
    elevation.

The system memorises the last sound
field selected for each function mode (Sound
    Field Link)
Whenever you select a function such as DVD or
TUNER, the sound field that was last applied to that
function is automatically applied again. For example,
if you listen to DVD with SMALL HALL as the sound
field, then change to another function, and then return
to DVD, SMALL HALL will be applied again. With
the tuner, sound fields are memorised separately for all
    preset stations.
zYou can identify the encoding format of
program software by looking at its packaging

    BIT RATE
When playing MPEG audio sound tracks
Bit rate refers to the amount of video/audio
data per second in a disc. When the bit rate
level is high, there is a large amount of data.
However, this does not always mean that
you can get higher quality pictures or
    sounds.
    LAYER
Indicates the approximate point where the
    disc is playing.
If it is a dual-layer DVD, the system
indicates which layer is being read (“Layer
    0” or “Layer 1”).
For details on the layers, see page 78
    (DVD).

    (ADVANCED)
You can check information such as the bit
rate or the disc layer that is being played.
