    Mutes the sound.

    Selects the audio channels for sound.

    Selects a desired language for the subtitles while playing a

    Selects a start point to play.
    ZOOM button
    Zoom in the playing pictures.

    Activates the sleep timer.
    PRO LOGIC II MODE button
    Press to select the Dolby Pro Logic Surround mode.
    LISTENING button
    Selects a listening mode you want.

    Sets a program play.
    OPEN / CLOSE button (L)
    Opens or closes the disc tray.
    SKIP / TUNING buttonsIn DVD player mode, press to select the
    next/previous title, chapter or track.
    In Tuner mode, press to change the tuning frequency.
    Press and hold the button for more than 1 second to search
    the station automatically.

    GPLAY / PAUSE button (G/J)
    Starts or pauses playing a disc.
    STOP button (H)
    Stops playing a disc and clears the stored program.
    MENU / PBC button
    Displays the menu or switch the PBC functions to on or off
    when playing a VCD (Ver. 2.0).
    DIRECTION buttons
    Selects the items or settings.
    ENTER button
    Executes the items or settings.
    RETURN button
    Displays the root menu when playing a DVD.
    Goes back to the PBC menu when playing a VCD.
    VOLUME / ADJ buttons
    Increase/decrease the master volume level or the selected
    channel level.
    SELECT button
    Selects the audio channel to view or adjust its level.
    EEPS button
    Offers pop, rock, jazz, and classic modes. (EEPS stands for
    Electronic Equalizer Preset System.)
    LANGUAGE button
    Selects a desired language for the audio when playing a DVD.
    ANGLE button
    Changes the angles while playing a DVD.

    							You must do some basic setting when first using this system. This
    chapter describes how to set the OSD (On-Screen Display)
    language, color system, audio output mode and video output
    mode, etc.
    <
    If there is too much noise on the SETUP screen and options
    are illegible, leave the screen by pressing the SETUP button,
    press the PAL/NTSC button on the remote control, and try
    again the setup process from the beginning.
    To operate this section, press the POWER switch on the front
    panel to turn the unit on and press the DVD button to select the
    DVD function.
    Selecting the Language for OSD
    You can select the language for OSD (On-Screen Display). This
    setting allows you select a preferred language for the OSD menu,
    operating messages. The default language is ENGLISH.
    Press the SETUP button to enter SETUP MENU. Use the 5/b
    buttons to select GENERAL SETUP, and then press ENTER
    button.
    Highlight OSD LANG using the 5
    /bbuttons, then press the

    button to go to the right option list. Select the language
    using the 5
    /bbuttons, then press the ENTER button to
    confirm your selection.

    Some DVDs may not support the selected language. In this
    case, the player displays disc menu consistent with the initial
    language of disc.

    Selecting the Color System
    You can setup the color system of this unit to match up your
    connected TV set. If the color system of this unit is different from
    that of the TV set, the images can not be displayed normally on
    the screen. The default setting is MULTI.
    MULTI
    Select MULTI when a MULTI TV is connected.
    NTSC
    Select NTSC when a NTSC TV (American standard) is
    connected.
    PAL
    Select PAL when a PAL TV (European standard) is connected.
    Press the SETUP button to enter SETUP MENU. Use the 5/b
    buttons to select GENERAL SETUP, and then press the ENTER
    button.
    Highlight TV TYPE using the 5
    /bbuttons, then press the t
    button to go to the right option list. Select MULTI, NTSC or
    PAL using the 5
    /bbuttons, then press ENTER to confirm
    your selection.
    Press the SETUP button again to exit menu.

    You can change the color system of the unit temporarily by
    using the PAL/NTSC button on the remote control.

    Basic Setup 2
    Selecting the Audio Output Mode
    You must setup the audio output mode correctly, if not, you will
    not get the audio outputs. The default setting is DIGITAL/RAW.
    DIGITAL/RAW
    If the OPTICAL output on the rear panel is connected with a
    receiver built-in Dolby Digital, DTS or/and MPEG decoder,
    select this item.
    DIGITAL/PCM
    If the OPTICAL output is connected with a recorder which
    accepts PCM audio signal, select this item.
    ANALOG
    If the OPTICAL output is not connected with any equipment,
    select this item.
    Press the SETUP button to enter SETUP MENU. Use the 5/b
    buttons to select AUDIO SETUP, and then press ENTER button.
    Highlight AUDIO OUT using the 5
    /bbuttons, then press the
    t
    buttons to go to the right option list. Select DIGITAL/RAW,
    DIGITAL/PCM or ANALOG using the 5
    /bbuttons, then press
    the ENTER button to confirm your selection.
    Press the SETUP button again to exit menu.

    If the DIGITAL/RAW is selected and the audio source is LPCM
    (DVD), the output in the OPTICAL is PCM.
    <
    If the DIGITAL/RAW is selected and the audio source is audio
    CD, the output in the OPTICAL is PCM.
    <
    If the ANALOG is selected, the OPTICAL will not have audio
    outputs.
    <
    When playing a CD with no blank intervals recorded between
    songs, there are occasions when audio available at DIGITAL
    OUT stops momentarily.

    Selecting the Video Output Mode
    You must setup the video output mode correctly, if not, you will
    not get the video outputs. The default setting is S-VIDEO.
    S-VIDEO
    Select this setting when S-VIDEO OUT is connected.
    COMPONENT
    Select this setting when COMPONENT VIDEO OUT is
    connected.
    Press the SETUP button to enter SETUP MENU. Use the 5/b
    buttons to select GENERAL SETUP, and then press the ENTER
    button.
    Highlight VIDEO OUTPUT using the 5
    /bbuttons, then press
    the t
    button to go to the right option list. Select S-VIDEO or
    COMPONENT using the 5
    /bbuttons, then press ENTER to
    confirm your selection.

    Press the POWER switch to turn the unit on.
    The unit can also be controlled with the remote control.
    <
    By pressing the POWER button on the remote control, you can
    switch between ON and STANDBY modes. The indicator lights
    up in power standby mode and goes out when this unit is
    turned on.
    <
    Turn the subwoofer on when necessary.
    Select a source by pressing the FUNCTION buttons.
    The selected source is shown on the front panel’s display.
    DVD (current status is displayed)

    Play the source, and gradually turn up the volume to the
    required level by pressing the VOLUME/ADJ buttons.3

    Tone Control
    1. Press the SELECT button to select “TRE” or “BAS”.
    Each time the SELECT button is pressed, the mode is
    changed as fig. 1.
    To adjust the level of high frequency sound range, select
    “TRE (treble)”.
    To adjust the level of low frequency sound range, select
    “BAS (bass)”.
    2. Press the VOLUME/ADJ buttons to change the setting.
    The level can be adjusted in 2 dB steps from –10 to +10.
    Adjusting Speaker Levels
    1. Press the SELECT button to select the speaker level setting.
    Each time the SELECT button is pressed, the mode is
    changed as fig. 1.
    2. Press the VOLUME/ADJ buttons (‡/°) to adjust the
    speaker level.
    The level can be adjusted in 1 dB step from –15 to +10.
    * If you don‘t press the VOLUME/ADJ buttons or the SELECT
    button for a few seconds when a level is displayed, the level
    display goes out.

    Sleep Timer
    The power can be switched off at the desired time.
    Press the SLEEP button repeatedly until desired time
    appears on the display.
    The sleep time can be changed by 10 minutes’ step.
    SLEEP- 120 (110, 100...or 10)
    The SLEEP indicator lights, and the power will be switched
    off 120 (110, 100...or 10) minutes later. 
    Normal display
    Sleep timer is off.
    <
    If you want to check the remaining time, press the SLEEP
    button once. The remaining time will be displayed for 2
    seconds, and return to the normal display.

    Headphones
    For private listening, insert the headphones plug into the
    PHONES jack, and adjust the volume by pressing the
    VOLUME/ADJ buttons. The sound from speakers will be cut
    off.
    <
    When the headphones plug is inserted, the Surround mode
    is changed to STEREO automatically.
    E
    Muting
    To mute the sound temporarily, press the MUTING button.
    MUTE appears on the front panel display for a few seconds.
    Press the MUTING button again to restore the sound. MUTE
    OFF appears on the front panel display for a few seconds.
    If you change the volume during the muting, the muting will
    be cancelled.

    EEPS (Electronic Equalizer Preset System)
    The EEPS button offers rock, pop, jazz and classic modes to
    enhance your listening.
    Pressing the EEPS button repeatedly rotates the mode in the
    following sequence:

    Playback 2
    To start playback
    In the stop mode, press the PLAY/PAUSE button (y/J).
    To suspend playback temporarily (pause mode)
    Press the PLAY/PAUSE button (y/J) during playback. 
    Still frame on DVD and VCD discs, and music interruption on
    MP3 and CD. 
    To resume playback, press the PLAY/PAUSE button (y
    /J).
    To open the disc tray
    Press the OPEN/CLOSE button (L) to open and close the disc
    tray.
    <
    When other function is selected, this button dosen’t work.
    To stop playback of CD, VCD, MP3
    Press the STOP button (H).

    Press the MENU/PBC to turn the MP3 menu “SMART NAVI”
    on or off. If you press the MENU/PBC button during playback,
    playback starts from the first track.
    When the MP3 menu is on:
    Select a directory by pressing the 5/bbuttons and press the
    ENTER button.
    A list of track numbers and titles (file names) will be shown on
    the right side of the screen. Select a track and press the
    ENTER button or the PLAY/PAUSE button. Playback will start
    from the selected track.

    Surround Mode
    LISTENING
    Each time the LISTENING button is pressed, the mode is changed
    as follows.
    (off)
    Normal mode. You can listen to available surround mode
    (DTS, Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II).
    LT / RT
    This is the mode for 2-channel output for future decoding by
    Pro Logic decoder.
    STEREO
    Stereo mode for listening using only front left and right
    speakers.
    VSS
    2-channel virtual surround mode for listening using only
    front left and right speakers.
    DTS
    During playback of DTS source, the surround mode is set to DTS
    automatically.
    DTS Digital Surround delivers up to 6 channels of transparent
    audio (which means identical to the original masters) and results
    in exceptional clarity throughout a true 360˚ soundfield.
    DOLBY DIGITAL
    During playback of DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 CH source, the surround
    mode is set to DOLBY DIGITAL automatically.
    Dolby Digital 5.1 CH delivers up to 5 totally discrete, full frequency
    audio channels (front left and right, center, and surround left and
    right), plus 0.1 channel called LFE*( Low-Frequency Effects).
    * LFE: Low Frequency Effects
    This channel delivers separate non-directional bass signals
    to the subwoofer for more dynamic deep bass sound effects.
    DOLBY PRO LOGIC II
    During playback of any 2 channel source, the surround mode is
    set to Dolby Pro Logic II.
    Each time the PROLOGIC II MODE button is pressed, the mode is
    changed as follows.
    DOLBY PRO LOGIC II gives you multichannel surround sound
    from any stereo source.
    <
    DOLBY PRO LOGIC II will not work on monaural source.
    MUSIC
    The Music mode creates a rich and enveloping surround
    ambience from stereo sources such as CDs.
    MOVIE
    The Movie mode is optimized for movies or programs with
    Dolby Surround soundtracks. This mode is also appropriate
    for use with video games.
    MATRIX
    The Matrix mode, a milder version of the Music mode, is
    suitable for enhancing mono signals to make them appear
    larger.
    PRO LOGIC
    Similar to the surround effect of DOLBY PRO LOGIC.
    VIRTUAL
    The Virtual mode should be used when connected to a
    virtual surround decoder through the front 2 speakers.

    Slow-Motion Play
    DVD / VCD
    Press the  (SLOW) button to play a disc in slow motion.
    If the playing disc is DVD, press this button repeatedly to select
    the following slow-motion type: SF 2X w
    SF 4X wSF 8X wSR 2X

    SR 4X wSR 8X wnormal play.
    If the playing disc is Video CD, press this button repeatedly to
    select the following slow-motion type: SF 2X w
    SF 4X wSF 8X

    normal play.
    SF : Slow Forward
    SR : Slow Reverse

    The larger the number is, the slower the speed becoms.

    This function is not available for CD and MP3.

    On some discs, the slow-motion playback function is disabled.
    Press the mor ,button while playing a disc.
    The player will search the disc fast forward or reverse. When you
    find the point you want, press the G
    /Jbutton to return to the
    normal speed.
    Change the searching speed
    You can change the searching speed by pressing the mor
    ,
    button repeatedly.

    If the playing disc is DVD or Video CD, you can select the
    following types of searching speed: FF 1X, FF 2X, FF 3X, FF 4X;
    or FR 1X, FR 2X, FR 3X, FR 4X.
    <
    If the playing disc is CD, you can select the following types of
    searching speed: FF 1X, FF 2X; or FR 1X, FR 2X.
    Notes
    <
    This function is not available for MP3.
    <
    The larger the number is, the faster the searching speed
    becoms.
    <
    For Video CD and CD, when the searching goes to the end of
    one track, the player will begin to play the next track at normal
    speed.
    Locate a Point Quickly
    Press the  (STEP) button repeatedly to play the disc step by
    step (one frame every step).
    Press the G
    /Jbutton again to resume normal playback.

    This function is not available for CD and MP3.
    Single Stepping Play

    The playback will go to the next or previous title, chapter or track
    in continuous play mode.

    button will replay the same chapter (or track or title) from
    its beginning.

    If the REPEAT-ALL function has been set, pressing the .or
    /
    button repeatedly will skip to select all the chapters (or
    tracks) in a title (or disc) cyclically.

    Using the root menu
    A DVD may containt the root menu. Some titles or chapters are
    recorded in the root menu.
    Press the RETURN button while playing a DVD disc.
    The “ROOT MENU” will be shown on TV screen for a moment,
    and then the root menu appears. The contents of the menu
    vary from disc to disc.
    Use the g/t/5/bbuttons to select the title (or chapter) you
    want to play.
    Depending on the disc, you can use the number buttons
    (0~9/+10) to select the title (or chapter).
    Press the ENTER button.
    The player starts playing the selected title (or chapter).

    Depending on the DVD disc, you may not be able to enter the
    root menu.
    <
    For some DVD disc, when you press the RETURN button, the
    playback will restart from the beginning of the disc.

    Using the DVD menu
    Some DVDs allow you to select the disc contents using the menu.
    When you play these DVDs, you can select the language for the
    subtitles, the language for the sound, etc., using the DVD menu.
    Press the TITLE button while playing a DVD disc.
    The DVD menu appears on the TV screen. The contents of the
    menu vary from disc to disc.
    Use the g/t/5/bbuttons to select the item you want to
    change.
    Depending on the disc, you can use the number buttons (0~9 /
    +10) to select the item.
    To change other items, repeat Step 2.
    Press the ENTER button.

    You can set a preferred language for audio and subtitle in the
    SETUP menu. For details, see page 31.
