8 Maintenance

From the printer’s control panel, you can print pages that give detailed 
information about the printer. They can help you maintain your printer.

3With a dry lint-free cloth, wipe away any dust and spilled toner from 
the print cartridge area and the print cartridge cavity.
Caution
While cleaning the inside of the printer, be careful not to touch 
the transfer roller, located underneath the print cartridge. Oil 
from your fingers can cause print scan quality problems.
4Locate the long strip of glass of LSU (Laser Scanning Unit) inside 
the top of the cartridge compartment, and gently swab the glass to 
see if dirt turns the white cotton...

Maintaining the print cartridge
Print cartridge storage
To get the most from the print cartridge, keep the following guidelines 
in mind:
• Do not remove the print cartridge from its package until ready for 
use.
• Do not refill the print cartridge. The printer warranty does not cover 
damage caused by using a refilled cartridge.
•Store print cartridge in the same environment as the printer.
• To prevent damage to the print cartridge, do not expose it to light for 
more than a few minute.

3Thoroughly roll the cartridge 5 or 6 times to distribute the toner 
evenly inside the cartridge. 
Note
If toner gets on your clothing, wipe it off with a dry cloth and 
wash clothing in cold water. Hot water sets toner into fabric.
4Hold the print cartridge by the handle and slowly insert the 
cartridge into the opening in the printer. 
5Tabs on the sides of the cartridge and corresponding grooves 
within the printer will guide the cartridge into the correct position 
until it locks into place...

Cautions
• If toner gets on your clothing, wipe it off with a dry cloth and 
wash clothing in cold water. Hot water sets toner into fabric.
• To prevent damage to the print cartridge, do not expose it to 
light for more than a few minutes. Cover it with a piece of 
paper, if necessary. 
• Do not touch the green surface underside of the print 
cartridgeprint cartridge. Use the handle on the cartridge to 
avoid touching this area.

2Remove the jammed paper by gently pulling it straight out. Make 
sure that all of the paper is properly aligned in Tray 2.
If the paper does not move when you pull, or if you do not see the 
paper in this area, check the fuser area around the print cartridge. 
See page 9.3.
3Insert Tray 2 into the printer until it snaps into place. Printing 
automatically resumes.

Around the print cartridge
Note
The fuser area is hot. Take care when removing paper from the 
printer.
1Open the top cover and pull the print cartridge out.
2Carefully lift up the guide feed.
3Remove the jammed paper by gently pulling it straight out.
If you cannot find jammed paper, or if there is any resistance 
removing the paper, stop pulling and go to the paper exit area on 
page 9.4.
4Flip down the guide feed and reinstall the print cartridge.
5Replace the print cartridge and close the top...
