Mounting and Detaching a Lens
If an Image Stabilizer (IS) lens is attached and the lens IS switch is set 
to , the Image Stabilizer will operate when you press the shutter 
button halfway. When the image in the viewfinder looks steady, take the 
picture.
To manual focus a subject at infinity, look through the viewfinder. If you 
just turn the focusing ring all the way to infinity, it might not attain proper 
focus.

The shutter button has two steps. You can press the shutter button 
halfway. Then you can further press the shutter button completely.

This activates autofocusing and 
automatic exposure that sets the shutter 
speed and aperture.

This releases the shutter and takes the 
picture.
(1)After pressing a button, turn the 
 dial.
When you press a button, its function 
remains selected for 6 seconds ( 9).
During this time, you can turn the < 6>
dial to set the desired setting.
When the function turns off or if you 
press the shutter button halfway, the 
camera will be ready to shoot.
  In this way, you can set the metering 
mode, AF mode, ISO speed, and 
select the AF point.

Before using the  dial, set the power switch to .
(1)After pressing a button, turn the 
 dial.
When you press a button, its function 
remains selected for 6 seconds ( 9).

Turn the dioptric adjustment 
knob.
 Turn the knob left or right so that the 
AF points in the viewfinder look 
sharp.
To obtain sharp images, hold the camera still to minimize camera 
shake.
1. Wrap your right hand around the camera grip firmly.
2. Hold the lens bottom with your left hand.
3. Press the shutter button lightly with your right hand’s index finger.
4. Press your arms and elbows lightly against the front of your body.

By setting various optional settings with the menus, you can set the 
image-recording quality, Picture Style, the date/time, Custom Functions, 
etc. While looking at the LCD monitor, you use the  button on 
the camera back and the < 6>  dials.
*The [2/7/8/9] tabs are not displayed in Basic Zone modes such as 
Full Auto.

 Press the < M> button to display 
the menu.
2Select a tab.
  Turn the  dial to select a tab.
3Select a menu item.
 Turn the  dial to select the menu 
item, then press <

4Select the setting.
