    Attaching and Detaching a Lens
When the dedicated EW-83H hood is attached to the EF24-105mm f/4L
IS USM lens, it blocks stray light and protects the front of the lens from
snow, rain, dust, etc. Before storin g the lens in a bag, etc., you can
    attach the hood in reverse.
1Align the red dots on the hood
    and lens edges.
2Turn the hood as shown in the
    illustration.
Turn the lens hood clockwise until it
    attaches securely.
    Attaching a Lens Hood
If the hood is not p roperly attached, it ma y obstruct the image’s
    periphery, making it look dark.
When attaching or detaching the lens hood, grasp the base of the hood
when turning it. Grasping the hood’s edges when turning it may deform
    the hood.

When you use the IS lens’ built-in Image Stabilizer, camera shake is
corrected to obtain a sharper sho t. The procedure explained here is
based on the EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens as an example.
    * IS stands for Image Stabilizer.
    1Set the IS switch to < 1>.
Also set the camera’s power switch to
    .
    2Press the shutter button halfway.
    XThe Image Stabilizer will operate.
    3Take the picture.
When the picture looks steady in the
    viewfinder, press the shutter button
    completely to take the picture.
    About the Lens Image Stabilizer
The Image Stabilizer cannot correct “subject blur”, when the subject
moves at the time of exposure.
For bulb exposures, set the IS switch to . If is set instead,
    Image Stabilizer misoperation may occur.
The Image Stabilizer may no t be effective for excessive shaking such as
    on a rocking boat.
The Image Stabilizer may not be effective when you use the EF24-
105mm f/4L IS USM lens for panned shots.
The Image Stabilizer can operate with the lens focus mode switch set to
    either < AF> or < MF>.
When using a tripod, you can still shoot with the IS switch set to
with no problem. However, to save battery power, setting the IS switch to
     is recommended.
The Image Stabilizer is effective ev en when the camera is mounted on a
    monopod.

    sharp.
If the knob is difficult to turn, remove
    the eyecup (p.185).
To obtain sharp images, hold the ca mera still to minimize camera
    shake.
    1. Wrap your right hand around the camera grip firmly.
    2. Hold the lens bottom with your left hand.
    3. Rest your hand’s right index fi nger lightly on the shutter button.

    Preventing Camera Shake
Hand-held camera movement during th e moment of exposure is called
camera shake. It can cause blurred pictures. To prevent camera shake,
    note the following:
    • Hold and steady the camera as shown on the preceding page.
    • Press the shutter button halfway to autofocus, then slowly press the
    shutter button completely.

If you press the shutter bu tton completely without pressing it halfway first
or if you press the shutter button ha lfway and then press it completely
immediately, the camera will take a moment before it takes the picture.
Even during menu displa y, image playback, or image recording, you can
instantly go back to shooting-ready by pressing the shutter button
