    5-5. Glossar\b
    Clock
With the analog input signal displa\f, the analog signal is converted to a digital signal b\f the LCD
circuitr\f. To convert the signal correctl\f, the LCD monitor needs to produce the same number clock
pulse as the dot clock of the graphics s\fstem. When the clock pulse is not correctl\f set, some verti-
cal bars of distortion are displa\fed on the screen.
    DVI (Di\fital Visual Interface)
A digital flat panel interface. DV\b can transmit digital data from the PC directl\f without loss with the
signal transition method “TMDS”. There are two kinds of DV\b connectors. One is DV\b-D connector for
digital signal inpu\lt onl\f. The other is DV\b-\b connector for both digital and\l analog signal inpu\lts.
    DVI DMPM (DVI Di\fital Monitor \aPower Mana\fement)
The Power management s\fstem for the digital interface. The “Monitor ON” status (operation mode)
and the “Active Off ” status (power-saving mode) are indispensable for the DV\b-DMPM as the moni-
    tor’s power mode.
    Gain Adjustment
Adjusts each color parameter for red, green and blue. The color of the LCD monitor is displa\fed
through the color filter of the LCD panel. Red, green and blue are the three primar\f colors. The col-
ors on the monitor are displa\fed b\f combining these three colors. The color tone can change b\f ad-
justing the illumin\lation amount passe\ld through each colo\lr’s filter.
    Gamma
Generall\f, the relationship that the light intensit\f values of a monitor change nonlinearl\f to the input
signal level is called “Gamma Characteristic”. On the monitor, low gamma values displa\f the whitish
images and high ga\lmma values displa\f the high contrast images.
    HDCP (Hi\fh-bandwidth Di\fital Conte\ants Protection)
Digital signal codi\lng s\fstem developed to cop\f-protect the digit\lal contents, such as video, music,
etc. This helps to transmit the digital \lcontents safel\f b\f coding the digita\ll contents sent via\l DV\b ter-
minal on the output\l side and decoding\l them on the input\l side.
An\f digital contents \lcannot be reproduc\led if both of the \lequipments on the \loutput and input s\lides
are not applicable to HDCP s\fstem.
    Phase
The phase adjustment decides the sampling timing point for converting the analog input signal to a
digital signal. Adjusting the pha\lse after the clock adjustment will pr\loduce a clear scree\ln.
    Ran\fe Adjustment
The Range Adjustme\lnt controls the level of output signal\l range to displa\f the whole color gradation.

    Resolution
The LCD panel consists of a fixed number of pixel elements which are illuminated to form the screen
image. The displa\f panel of this monitor consists of 1920 horizontal pixels and 1200 vertical pixels.
    At a resolution of \l1920 x 1200 , imag\les are displa\fed as a full screen\l(1:1).
    SDI (Serial Di\fital \aInterface)
One of the interfaces standardized b\f the SMPTE and AR\bB. \bt transmits image signals, s\fnc signal,
clock, and audio signa\lls all on one cable.
    sRGB (Standard RGB)
“\bnternational Standard for Red, Green, and Blue color space” A color space was defined with the
aim of the color matching between applications and hardware devices, such as monitors, scanners,
printers and digital cameras. As a standard default space, sRGB allows \bnternet users to closel\f
    match colors.
    Temperature
Color Temperature is a method to measure the white color tone, generall\f indicated in degrees Kel-
vin. At high temperatures the white tone appears somewhat blue, while at lower temperatures it ap-
pears somewhat red. Computer monitors generall\f give best performance at high temperature set-
    tings.
    5000 K: Slightl\f reddish wh\lite (usuall\f used in\l print industr\f)
6500 K: White called da\flight color (suited\l for web browsing)
    9300 K: Slightl\f bluish white (usuall\f \lused for television)
    TMDS (Transition Minimized Differential Si\fnalin\f)
A signal transition method for the digital inte\lrface.
    VESA DPM
(Video Electronics Standards Association - Di\aspla\b Power Mana\fement)
VESA specifications achieve increased energ\f efficienc\f for computer monitors. This involves stan-
dardization of signals sent from the computer (graphics board).DPM defines the status of signals
transmitted between the computer a\lnd monitor.
