You should create a set of discs for recovering your 
pre-installed software and device drivers, in case you need to 
use them later for a complete system recovery. (Your 
convertible notebook must have a recordable disc drive to 
perform this procedure.)
To create discs for recovering pre-installed software 
and drivers:  
1Click or tap  (Start), All Programs, Gateway 
Recovery Center, then click or tap Gateway Recovery 
Center. The Gateway Recovery Center opens.

4Insert a blank, recordable disc into a recordable disc 
drive, then click or tap Next. If an AutoPlay dialog box 
opens, click or tap the x in the upper-right corner to 
close it.

discs you need to create a full set of recovery discs.

Recovering pre-installed software and drivers using 
Gateway Recovery Center
To recover specific drivers and software:  
1Click or tap  (Start), All Programs, Gateway 
Recovery Center, then click or tap Gateway Recovery 
Center. The Gateway Recovery Center opens.
2To recover software that was pre-installed, click or tap 
Programs, then click or tap Application recovery.

1Insert a software and driver recovery disc into a CD or 
DVD drive. If an AutoPlay dialog box appears, click or 
tapRun Grc_Vista.exe. If an AutoPlay dialog box does 
not appear and Gateway Recovery Center does not 
start, open Computer and run the file Grc_Vista.exe 
on the disc.

To restore using Microsoft System Restore:  
1Click or tap  (Start), Control Panel, System and 
Maintenance, then click or tap Backup and Restore 
Center. The Backup and Restore Center opens.
2On the left side of the window, click or tap Repair 
Windows using System Restore, then click or tap 
Next. The Choose a restore point dialog box opens.
3Click or tap the restore point you want, click or tap

Manually creating a restore point
To manually create a restore point:  
1Click or tap  (Start), Control Panel, System and 
Maintenance, then click or tap Backup and Restore 
Center. The Backup and Restore Center opens.
2On the left side of the window, click or tap Create a 
restore point or change settings, then click or tap 
Next. The System Properties dialog box opens to the 
System Protection tab.

Recovering your system to its factory 
condition
If your convertible notebook’s problems are not solved by any 
of the other recovery options, you may need to recover its 
hard drive to its factory condition. This process is called a 
factory recovery.
To delete everything on your hard drive and re-install all 
factory software:  
1If you can still run Windows:
aClick or tap  (Start), All Programs, Gateway 
Recovery Center, then click or tap Gateway

8To perform a recovery with data backup 
(recommended), click or tap Recovery with automatic 
data backup, then click or tap Next.

To perform a full factory recovery without data backup,
