HISS
HISS indicator (P116)
• Comes on briefly when the ignition switch is turned on. 
Goes off if the ignition key has 
the correct coding.
• Flashes every 2  seconds for 24 
hours when the ignition switch is 
turned off.

 Neutral indicator
Comes on when the transmission 
is in Neutral.

Switches
Engine stop switch
Should normally remain in the 
RUN  position.
uIn an emergency, switch to 
the OFF   position to stop 
the engine.
 Hazard switch
Switchable when  the ignition 
switch is on. Can be turned to 
off regardless of the ignition 
switch position.
u The signals continue flashing 
with the ignition switch is 
OFF or LOCK after the 
hazard switch is on.

Steering Lock
Lock the steering when parking to help 
prevent theft.
A U-shaped wheel lock or similar device is 
also recommended.❙Locking
! a Turn the handlebar al l the way to the left.
! b Push the key down, and turn the ignition 
switch to the LOCK position.
uJiggle the handlebar if  the lock is difficult 
to engage.
! c Remove the key.

Be sure the parking brake is applied while parking and 
warming up the engine.
uMake sure the parking brake le ver is released before riding.
To apply the parking brake lock
Pull the parking brake lever back to lock the rear wheel.

parking brake lever is not released.

Starting the Engine
(NC700S/SA)
Start your engine using the following 
procedure, regardless of whether the engine 
is cold or warm.!a Make sure the engine stop switch is in the 
RUN  position.
! b Turn the ignition swit ch to the ON position.
! c Shift the transmission to Neutral (  
indicator comes on). Alte rnatively, pull in 
the clutch lever to start your motorcycle 
with the transmission in gear so long as the 
side stand is raised.
! d Press the start button  with the throttle...

Start your engine using the following 
procedure, regardless of whether the engine 
is cold or warm.
NOTICE
•If the engine does not start  within 5 seconds, turn the 
ignition off and wait 10 seconds before trying to start 
the engine again for reco very of battery voltage.
• Extended fast idling and revving the engine can 
damage the engine, and the exhaust system.
• Snapping the throttle or fast idling for more than about 
5 minutes may cause exhaust pipe discolouration....

Shifting Gears

Your motorcycle transmission has six forward 
gears in a one-down, five-up shift pattern.
If you put the motorcycle in gear with the 
side stand down, the engine will shut off.
