    [AF ASSIST LAMP]
Press [ ] to display the [CUSTOM

    (P26)
Illuminating the subject makes it easier for
the camera to focus when recording in low
light conditions that make focusing difficult.
The flash is activated as an AF assist
lamp if you use the flash when taking
pictures with the Viewfinder or if phase
difference AF is activated when taking
    pictures with Live View,
The AF assist lamp will not work when the
    flash is closed.
When using contrast AF, the AF assist
lamp turns on even when the flash is
    used.
The effective range of the AF assist lamp
    is about 1.0 m (3.3 feet) to about 3.0 m
(9.8 feet). (when the supplied lens is
    attached and at Wide)
Be careful about the following when using
the AF assist lamp.– Do not look at the AF assist lamp from
    too close up.
    – Do not attach the lens hood.
    – Do not cover the AF assist lamp with
    your fingers or other objects.
When you do not want to use the AF
assist lamp (e.g. when taking pictures of
animals in dark places), set the
[AF ASSIST LAMP] to [OFF]. In this case,
it will become more difficult to focus on the
    subject.
The setting is fixed to [ON] in auto mode
    [].
When you use a lens with a large filter
diameter that obscures the AF assist
lamp, shadows may appear on the picture
and the performance of the camera may
    deteriorate.
The setting for the [AF ASSIST LAMP] is
fixed to [OFF] in [SCENERY] mode,
    [NIGHT SCENERY], [ILLUMINATIONS] or
    [CREATIVE NIGHT SCENERY] in
