Forcing the flash off ([Œ])
When the flash is closed or pic tures cannot be taken with the flash due to motion picture 
recording, etc., [ Œ] (forced flash off) is displayed on the recording screen and t he flash 
will not fire.
•
Close the flash in places where its use is prohibited so that i t will not fire.
In the following cases, the flash is fixed to [Œ] (forced flash off).

∫The available flash range (approximation)
When you use certain lenses, light from the flash may be 
blocked or fail to cover the lens field of view, causing dark 
areas to appear in the resulting pictures.
The distance at which light from the flash is blocked by lens, and 
the distance to which light from the flash is delivered vary 
depending on the lens used. Check the distance to the subject 
when taking a picture.

Setting the Flash Functions
Applicable modes: 
Select whether to set the flash output automatically or manually.
1Select the menu. (P63)
2Press 3/4  to select the item and then press [MENU/SET].
•
When [MANUAL] is set, the luminosity ratio ([1/1], etc.) is dis played on the flash icon on the 
screen.
•This item is not available when an built-in flash is being used.

The available flash settings depend on the Recording Mode.

∫Shutter speed for each flash setting
¢This becomes 60 seconds in Shutter-Priority AE Mode and B (Bulb) in the Manual Exposure Mode.
•When the flash is activated the fastest shutter speed that can  be selected is 1/160 of a second.•In Intelligent Auto (  or  ) Mode, shutter speed changes depending on the identified 
scene.

Taking Pictures with Wireless Flashes
By using flashes that support the wireless control (DMW-FL360L, DMW-FL580L: optional), 
you can control firing of the built-in flash (or a flash attach ed to the hot shoe of this unit) 
and three flash groups separately. Applicable modes: 
∫ Placing wireless flashes
Place the wireless flash with it s wireless sensor facing toward  the camera.

1Set the wireless flashes to RC Mode and then place them.
•Set a channel and groups for the wireless flash.
2Press the flash button to open the built-in flash or attach a flash 
(DMW-FL360L, DMW-FL580L: optional) to the camera.

4Press  3/4 to select [ON] and then press [MENU/SET].
•When [Wireless]  is set to [ON], [WL] is displayed on the flash  icon on the recording
