3Pull the tray open. After you pull it all the way out, lift up 
the front part of the tray slightly to release the tray from 
the printer.
4Remove the jammed paper by gently pulling it straight out 
as shown below. 
5To replace the tray, lower the rear edge, align it with the 
slot, and slide it into the printer. 
6After removing the jammed paper, check for paper which 
may be jammed in other parts of the printer.
7Close the access door firmly. The printer will resume 
printing....

CAUTION:
• Do not touch the green surface, the OPC drum, on the front  of each toner cartridge with your hands or any other 
material. Use the handle on each cartridge in order to avoid 
touching this area.
• Be careful not to scratch the surface of the paper transfer  belt.
• If you leave the access door open for more than a few  minutes, the OPC drum can be exposed to light. This will 
cause damage to the OPC drum. Close the access door 
should the installation need to be halted...

may be jammed in other parts of the printer.
7After making sure that the access door is open, close the 
top cover. Make sure that it is securely latched.
8Close the access door firmly. The printer will resume 
printing.
CAUTION: If the top cover and access door are not completely 
closed, the printer will not operate.

If paper is jammed in the paper exit area, a lamp turns on at

4Push the levers up.
5Open the inner cover using the handle on it and carefully
take the jammed paper out of the printer.
6Close the inner cover and push the levers down.
CAUTION: Do not touch the fuser inside the inner cover. It is 
hot and could cause burns! The fuser’s operating temperature 
is 180°C (356°F). Take care when removing paper from the 
printer.
7After removing the jammed paper, check for paper which 
may be jammed in other parts of the printer.

In the Optional Tray2
If paper is jammed in the optional Tray2, a lamp turns on at the 
corresponding location on the Status map. Also, “Jam0 In 
Tray2” appears on the display.

6Open the outer jam cover in Tray2.
7Open the inner cover of Tray2.
8Pull the jammed paper out in the direction shown. To 
avoid tearing the paper, pull it out gently and slowly. 
9Close the two jam covers and go to step 13.
If you cannot find the jammed paper, or if there is any 
resistance removing the paper, stop pulling and continue 
to step 10.

10Pull the optional Tray2 open. After you pull it all the way 
out, lift up the front part of the tray slightly to release the 
tray from the printer.
11If you see the jammed paper, remove the paper from the 
printer by gently pulling it straight out as shown below.
12Slide the tray back into the printer and close the two jam 
covers. 
13Open the access door. 
14After making sure that the access door is open. Close the 
top cover.

Tips for Avoiding Paper Jams
By selecting the correct paper types, most paper jams can be 
avoided. If a paper jam occurs, follow the steps outlined in 
“Clearing Paper Jams” on page 7.4. 
• Follow the procedures on page 4.2. Ensure that the 
adjustable guides are positioned correctly.

• A toner cartridge has probably been scratched. Remove the toner cartridge and install a new one.
