    enabled, the function which was last set becomes the active setting, and

    TOUCH SENSOR (TOUCH FOCUS) 
    SETTING
    The touch sensor function, by which the autofocus is activated by a finger-
    touch on the shutter button, can be set to ON or OFF. When the touch sensor 
    function is set to OFF, the autofocus is activated when you press the shutter 
    button halfway; then gently press the shutter button to snap the picture.
    1 Display the Recording Menu (page 54).
    2 Select “TOUCH SENSOR” and 
    press the SET button.
    hThe sensor menu appears.
    3 Select the desired icon, and press the SET button.
    hThe selected touch sensor function is set.
    CAUTION
    iWhen the camera is attached to a tripod, the touch sensor sensibility may 
    be diminished. This happens because the touch sensor works by detecting 
    changes in the capacitance when the camera is touched with bare hands. 
    The touch sensor sensibility will also be diminished, for example, if you 
    hold the camera with gloved hands.
    iWhen the camera is used near inverter-type fluorescent lights, the touch 
    sensor sensitivity may be diminished.#: The touch sensor function is set to 
    ON.
    $: The touch sensor function is set to 
    OFF.

    RESOLUTION/VIDEO CLIP SETTING
    By setting the image resolution (pixels) to a higher setting, image detail is 
    enhanced for a smoother, finer picture. However, the file size also becomes large 
    and uses more memory. Select the resolution setting that suits your purpose.
    1 Display the Recording Menu (page 54).
    2 In the single shot or sequential 
    shots shooting mode select 
    [RESOLUTION], or in the video clip 
    recording mode select [VIDEO CLIP 
    MODE], and press the SET button.
    hThe resolution menu or video clip 
    mode menu appears.
    
    
    3 Select the desired icon, and press the SET button.
    hThe selected resolution setting or video clip mode setting is set. k: Shoot image at 3,680 × 2,760 
    pixels (Single shot mode only) 
    D: Shoot image at 2,816 × 2,112 
    pixels
    z: Shoot image at 2,288 × 1,712 pixels 
    t: Shoot image at 1,600 × 1,200 pixels 
    [: Shoot image at 640 × 480 pixels 
    5: Shoot at 320 × 240 pixels.

    RESOLUTION/VIDEO CLIP SETTING
    Record and play back an audio file
    In the video clip recording mode, your camera can make audio recordings.
    kRecord an audio file
    1 Display PAGE 1 of the Recording 
    Menu for the video clip recording 
    mode (page 54).
    2 Select the audio recording icon 
    < from the video clip mode 
    menu, and press the SET button.
    3 Press the MENU button.
    hThe recording mode is enabled.
    4 Press the shutter button.
    hAudio recording begins. It is not 
    necessary to continue pressing 
    the shutter button while recording.
    hTake care not to cover the 
    microphone with your fingers.
    5 End the recording.
    hPress the shutter button again to 
    stop recording.

    kPlaying back audio recordings
    Listen to your audio recordings.
    1 Display the desired audio data.
    hA musical note graphic appears on 
    the screen.
    2 Play back the recording.
    To do this...Do this
    Forward playback Press the SET button.
    Stop playback During playback, press the [o] button
    PauseDuring playback, press the SET button.
    During fast forward or fast reverse, press the 
    [n] button.
    Fast forwardDuring forward playback, press the [m] button.
    * The speed changes each time the [m] button 
    is pressed, as follows:
    Normal playback 
    → 2x → 5x → 10x → 15x
    Press the [l] button to resume normal speed.
    Fas t revers eDuring forward playback, press the [l] button.
    * The speed changes each time the [l] button 
    is pressed, as follows:
    15x ← 10x ← 5x
    Press the [m] button to resume normal speed.
    Return to normal playback speedPress the SET button.
    Adjusting the volumeLouder: During playback, press [T] on the 
    zoom switch.
    Softer: During playback, press [W] on the 
    zoom switch.

    FOCUS AREA SETTING
    You can choose from the following 2 types of autofocus (still image shooting 
    only):
    9-point range finder focus: The correct focus is determined from 9 different 
    focus points within the shooting area visible on the 
    monitor. When the image is focused, a target 
    mark & appears.
    Spot focus: The camera focuses on the subject in the center 
    of the monitor.
    1 Display the Recording Menu 
    (page 54). 
    2 Select “FOCUS METHOD” and 
    press the SET button.
    hThe focus mode menu appears.
    B: 9-point range finder focus is 
    selected. 
    C: Spot focus is selected. 
    hWhen the spot focus setting is 
    selected, the focus mark + appears 
    in the center of the monitor. 
    3 Select the desired icon, and press 
    the SET button.
    hThe focus area is set.

    ISO SENSITIVITY
    With the initial settings, the ISO sensitivity is automatically set according to 
    the brightness of the subject. However, the ISO sensitivity can be set to a 
    fixed setting.
    1 Display the Recording Menu (page 54).
    2 Select “ISO” and press the SET 
    button.
    hThe ISO sensitivity menu appears.
    3 Select the desired icon, and press the SET button.
    hThe ISO sensitivity is set.
    HINT
    iBy setting a higher ISO sensitivity, you can set higher shutter speeds and 
    capture images in darker locations, but noise in the captured images may 
    increase.t: Sets the ISO sensitivity 
    automatically (equivalent to 
    ISO50 to 200 [video clip recording 
    mode: ISO200 to 800]).
    *: Sets the sensitivity to ISO50 
    equivalent (video clip recording 
    mode: ISO200).
    u: Sets the sensitivity to ISO100 equivalent (video clip recording 
    mode: ISO400).
    v: Sets the sensitivity to ISO200 equivalent (video clip recording 
    mode: ISO800).
    w: Sets the sensitivity to ISO400 equivalent (video clip recording 
    mode: ISO1,600).

    WHITE BALANCE
    This camera automatically adjusts the white balance under most lighting 
    conditions. However, if you want to specify the lighting conditions or change 
    the overall tone of the image, the white balance can be manually set.
    1 Display the Recording Menu (page 54).
    2 Select “WHITE BALANCE” and 
    press the SET button.
    hThe white balance menu appears.
    >: The camera will make the white 
    balance adjustment automatically 
    based on the natural and artificial 
    light conditions. This is the setting 
    used in the auto mode.
    r: For shooting outside on a sunny 
    day.
    o: For shooting outside on a cloudy day.
    p: For shooting inside under fluorescent lighting.
    q: For shooting inside under incandescent lighting.
    ]: For more accurate adjustment or when the light source cannot be 
    specified (one-push).
    Setting procedure 
    1Select the ] icon, fill the entire screen with a plain white 
    card (or piece of paper, etc.), and press the SET button.RECORDING MENU

    3 Select the desired icon, and press the SET button.
    hThis completes the white balance setting.
    hOnce the white balance setting is programmed for the ] icon, it is 
    retained even if another white balance setting (>, r, o, p, or 
    q) is selected. If you changed to another setting, whenever you 
    select the ] icon and press the SET button, the previously 
    programmed setting is recalled. 
    HINT
    To cancel the white balance setting
    iPerform step 1, select >, and then press the SET button.
