You can enter data by following methods other than the 
hardware keyboard.
On-screen keyboard (Input 
panel) (page 43)
Enter data by tapping the keyboard 
displayed on the screen.
Graffiti
® (page 46)
Enter data using the freehand input 
characters, called Graffiti. Once 
you get used to entering data using 
Graffiti, it is much faster than 
entering data with the on-screen 
keyboard.

You can enter data using the stylus of your CLIÉ handheld.
Entering data
To enter data, you will need software (an application) that is 
compatible with your CLIÉ handheld. Follow the steps below to 
practice entering data using the Date Book application.
1Tap the Date Book   icon on the Application 
Launcher screen.
Date Book starts up. Todays schedule is displayed.

3Press and hold the Home /Menu   button. 
Tap  Keyboard  from the Edit menu.
The keyboard is displayed.
4Select the required ke yboard and tap the 
characters to enter text and numbers.
You can use the on-screen keyboard in the same way as in 
the keyboard of your computer. To enter a capital letter, tap 
“cap” and then tap the character button. To delete a 
character, tap

on-screen keyboard and place the text in the 
record.

numbers, punctuations, and symbols, and teaches you some 
Graffiti
® tips and tricks.
What is Graffiti writing?
Most people find they can enter text quickly and accurately with 
only minutes of practice. Graffiti writing includes any character 
you can type on a standard keyboard. The Graffiti strokes closely 
resemble the upper case letters of the regular...

Using Graffiti® writing to enter data
The areas for writing letters and numbers are 
different
The Graffiti writing area is divided into two parts: one for 
writing the letters of the alphabet and one for writing numbers.
Tip
To display the Graffiti writing area, select the line to enter characters, 
and then press the Text Input  /Find   button. For details, refer to 
“Entering characters with Graffiti” (page 54).

Using Graffiti® writing to enter data
Writing capital letters
Shift to caps to make capital letters with the same stroke shapes 
as the basic alphabet characters.
 To draw the first letter of a word as a capital letterUse the Caps Shift stroke   .
To return to lower case, use the BackSpace stroke   .
Note
When you create a new sentence or a new record (by tapping New 
or a blank line), the first letter is automatically capitalized.
