    Note
    • If you have not set the clock, the clock setting
window will appear instead of the Timer
Programming list. Continue from the step 4 in
“Manual Clock Setting” on page 33 to set the clock,
    before programming the timer.
•Use [L / P] to move the cursor to the left and the
right in the entry screen for the timer programming.
    • If a basic recording or One-touch Timer Recording is
in progress on one component (e.g. VCR) and the
timer recording set for the other component (e.g.
DVD) is about to begin, the unit automatically
switches to the programmed channel for timer
recording 2 minutes before the programmed starting
time, and the recording in progress (for VCR) will be
cancelled UNLESS their recording channels are the
same. If their recording channels are the same, the
timer recording will start without cancelling the
recording currently in progress. In this case, the
recording of the same channel will be made on both
    DVD and VCR.
    • Cancel the timer-standby mode by pressing
[TIMER SET] before operation for either DVD or
VCR. When finished operating, press [TIMER SET]
    to resume the timer-standby mode.
    • In the timer-standby mode, you can turn on the
power and use the component (VCR or DVD) which
    is not currently timer-programmed.
    PDC (Programme Delivery Control)
Programme Delivery Control (PDC) assures that the
TV programmes you have programmed for timer
recording are recorded exactly from beginning to end,
even if the actual broadcasting time differs from the
scheduled time due to a delayed start or extension of
the programme duration. Furthermore, if a
programme is interrupted, the recording will also be
interrupted automatically and resumed when the
    programme starts again.
If the PDC signal drops out because the broadcast
signal is weak, or if a broadcasting station does not
transmit a regular PDC signal, the timer recording is
performed in normal mode (without PDC) even if it
was programmed for PDC. If the starting time of the
PDC timer recording is between 0:00 and 3:59 on a
given day, the PDC function will operate from 20:00
on the previous day to 4:00 on the next day. If the
starting time of the PDC timer recording is between
4:00 and 23:59 on a given day, the PDC function will
operate from 0:00 on the given day to 4:00 on the
next day. This means that if the relevant programme
is broadcasted within this period, it is recorded
correctly. If the timer is not programmed correctly, the
incorrect timer setting stays in effect unless you
cancel it. To cancel an incorrect timer setting, refer to
“Checking, Cancelling or Correcting the Timer
    Programming Information” on this page.
    Note
    • This feature is only available for analogue channels.
    • If you have a timer programme with the EPG system
(see page 44), this feature may not work.

    • When you check the timer programming in progress
by pressing [TIMER PROG.] during operations of
the component (DVD or VCR) which is not currently
used for the timer recording, the programme will not
be highlighted. In this case, you cannot select other
    programmings.
    • If you delete or correct one of the series link timer
recording programmes, all related programmes will
    be deleted or corrected.
    • For series link timer recording programme, you can
only correct the “REC To”, “Mode” and “STTL”.
Stop the Timer Recording in Progress
On the front panel of the unit, press

    Hints for the Timer Recording
    • If there is a power failure or the unit is unplugged for
more than 30 seconds, the clock setting and all
    timer settings will be lost.
    • If there is no disc or an unrecordable disc in the tray
    (finalised DVD-RW/-R, finalised DVD+R, a fully
recorded disc, etc.), the DVD on the front panel
display will flash and the timer recording will not
    occur. Insert a recordable disc.
    • If there is no tape or a tape with a record tab is not in
the cassette compartment, the VCR on the front
panel display will flash and the timer recording
cannot be performed. Please insert a recordable
tape.• When all timer recordings are complete, the
icon flashes. To play back or eject the recorded disc,
press [TIMER SET], and then press [PLAY P] or
    [OPEN / CLOSE O].
    • The timer recording cannot be performed in DVD
and VCR at the same time. If you set two
programmings with the same channel and time both
in DVD and VCR, the programming that has priority
    will be recorded.
    • You cannot make any DVD operation during DVD
    timer recording.
    • You cannot make any VCR operation during VCR
    timer recording.
    • Timer recording whose recording time exceeds 12
    hours cannot be made.
    • When 2 or more programmes are overlapped,
“Timer programme overlapped” appears, and the
overlapped programme will be displayed in blue. To
correct the timer programme refer to “Checking,
Cancelling or Correcting the Timer Programming
    Information” on page 42.
    • If the Start time is earlier and the End time is later
than the current time, the recording will start
immediately after you press [TIMER SET].
    • If a videotape ends during the timer recording, the
unit will automatically stop, eject the videotape, and
turn itself off. To continue recording, insert a
    recordable tape.
    Priority of overlapped settings
The unit records programmes according to priority if
    the timer programmes overlap.
If the starting time is same:
    • The timer programming set first (PROG. 1) has
    priority.
When the starting time and the ending time for
    each programmes are different:
    • A programme that has earlier start time has priority.
If the recording time is partially overlapped:
    • The timer programming with the earlier start time
(PROG. 2) has priority. PROG. 1 will start after
    PROG. 2 recording is complete.

    Recording split programmes
Some TV programmes are split into 2 or more parts.
With EPG system, when you set the first part of the
split TV programme for the timer recording, whole
parts will be set to the timer programme automatically.
    Alternate instance recording
If a timer programming you set overlaps, this unit will
search for same TV programme broadcasted in
different time, and if this unit finds the programme,
you will be asked whether to record the programme in
