    							Prelimina ry Proce dures 3-3
    Preliminary Procedures
    1. Make sure the Basic Key Service Unit (BKSU) is properly grounded to
    coldwaterpipeorearthground.
    2 . Ve r ify t hat al l expa nder m odule s are fi r mly se at ed onto the ir
    connectors.
    3. Ins pect the MDF for shorted wiring and improper p ola rity that would
    affect the Digital Terminal or DSS console.
    4 . M ake c er t ai n t he li t hium bat te r y s wit c h (S W2 ) on the M B U of t he
    BSKU is set to the ON position to enable the battery backup option.
    5. Make sure th e MDF cab les connected to the KSU are secure and are
    p lugg ed into the correct p osition.
    Po we r Up S e q u e n c e
    The pow er up seq uenc e i nvol ves 1 ) t he pr oper a ppl ic at i on of AC powe r
    to the s yst em and 2) de fau l ti ng t he sy st em. A su c c e ssfu l p o wer u p is
    assured if the installation checklist is followed.
    1. Plug the AC p ower cord of the Key S ervice U nit into th e d edicated
    117V AC outlet.
    2 . R emove t he BKSU cov er, set S W1 on t he M BU t o t he ON pos it ion. S et
    ( SW2 ) (B AT T ) to the O N p o si ti o n.
    3. Turn th e p ower switch of the KSU to ON .
    4 . Se t (SW 1) o n t he MB U to th e O FF po s it io n to re ta in c hange s t o t he
    database.

    from the central of fice, mus t a lso b e considered as an overa ll

    System Programming and Verification

    copy of the customer database can be printed from the system and
    should b e k ept on- site a nd up to date for future ref erence .
    TheSTARPLUSTriad-SSystems are highly-featured digital switches and, as
    suc h, fea tur e ac t iv at ion ca n s omet im es be mi st ake n for i mpr ope r
    ope rat i on. F ir st , v er if y al l pr ogr ammab le fe at ure s are e nabl ed for t he
    phone or funct i on i n que st ion. Th en com par e the su spe cte d i mpr ope r
    operation with the feature operation description to determine which
    fea ture is caus ing conflict. Be a ware that s ome fea tures canoverride
    others and take precedence in operational priority. Then make the
    nece ssa ry pr ogra mmi ng chan ges in cust omer d ata bas e p rogr am ming to
    acqui re t he des ir ed ope ra ti on.
    If fe ature ope ra tion is not the ca use of the sus pected problem, then
    general troubleshooting procedures sho uld be employed. Use these
    bas ic g uide l ine s t o d et er mi ne t he c aus e o f a re por te d p robl e m:
    1. Verify that system programming is correct and that the suspected
    fea ture, circuit or fu nction wa s e nab le d in programming.
    2. Che ck the ins ta llation cabling /wiring and connectors for cuts, shorts
    or loose connections.

    Telephone and Terminal Troubles hooting
    This section discusses general functions on a variety of key telephones
    and te rm ina ls ava il abl e for use on the s yst em. I t is ass ume d t hat ba sic
    troubles hooting skills in the iden tifica tion a nd res olution of bas ic
    pr oble ms ar e al r ead y pos ses se d (e .g., st at ic / noi se hea rd on c onve rs at ion,
    one phone only; Re place worn hand set cord).

    TheSTA RPLUSTr iad-SSys te m contains a tes t mode fe ature that sup ports
    the o f f-l ine t es ti ng o f di gi tal k eys et s a nd D SS u nit s. T he t e rm o ff- li ne
    mea ns tha t the unit unde r te st is op erationa lly disconne cte d from th e
    switch during the tes t ope ration. Ke yse ts not und er tes t con tinue to
    ope rate in the n orma l ma nner. T es ts are provided to v erify the key se t an d
    DSS LE D, LCD , a nd keyboa rd button operations.

    re tu rn to the ma in te st me nu by pr es si ng [# #].

    Keyset LC D/LED Te st
    This test outputs a series of continuous ly repeated L CD string m ess ages
    to LCD lines 1 and 2. The set of strings consists of the letters A through X
    and a t hr ough x. Th e ne xt se t of s tr i ngs a re :

    Keyset Button Test
    1. Press a keyset button to turn on the LED and display an LCD message
    id ent ify ing th e b utt on num ber.

    Depress ing the H- T- P switch from one pos ition to another d is pla ys
    one the fo llowing word s: H_POS, T_POS, or P_POS.

    DSS LED/Button Test
    When the DSS test is selected and a DSS test is invoked, ALL DSS units
    associated with the keyset are placed in the test mode.
    If no D SS unit is ass ocia te d with the keys et, the ke yse t dis play indicates
    NODSS.TheDSSLEDtestcausesalltheLEDstolightsteady.AllLEDs
    remain lit steady until a DSS flex button is pressed. Pressing a DSS button
    turns onthe DSSbuttonLED and displays anLCD message on the
    associated keyset identifying the DSS button number (01 to 48). This
    button also turns off the previously selected flex LED.
    Conditions
    Test mode interrupts the normal operation of a keyset or DSS.
