Point the Remote Controller toward the camera’s remote control
sensor and press the transmit button.

Fluorescent or LED lighting may cause camera misoperation by triggering
the shutter inadvertently. Try to keep the camera away from such light
    sources.
Remote Controller RC-1/RC-5 (sold separately) can also be used.
The Remote Controller can also be used for shooting movies (p.177).
Remote Controller RC-5 cannot be used to take still photos in the movie

    The basic operation is simple.
When an EX-series Speedlite (sold separately) is attached to the
camera, almost all the automatic flash control is done by the camera. In
other words, it is almost the same as using a built-in flash.
For detailed instructions, refer to the EX-series Speedlite’s
instruction manual. This camera is a Type-A camera that can use all
    the features of EX-series Speedlites.
Flash modes and shooting modes when using EOS-dedicated, EX-
series Speedlite flashes other than the Speedlite 90EX.
     FE Lock
FE Lock is a flash photography method that ensures that every part
of the subject is correctly illuminated. Frame the subject so it
appears in the center of the screen and press the camera’s < YA >
    button before taking the picture.

    External Speedlites
With an EZ/E/EG/ML/TL-series Speedlite set in TTL or A-TTL
autoflash mode, the flash can be fired at full output only.
Set the camera’s shooting mode to (manual exposure) or
(aperture-priority AE) and adjust the aperture setting before shooting.
When using a Speedlite that has manual flash mode, shoot in the manual flash mode.
    Sync Speed
The camera can synchronize with compact, non-Canon flash units at 1/200
sec. or slower shutter speeds. Use a sync speed slower than 1/200 sec.
Be sure to test the flash unit beforehand to make sure it synchronizes
    properly with the camera.
Canon Speedlites Other Than the EX-series
    Using Non-Canon Flash Units
FE Lock may not be correctly applied if the < YA > button is not held
pressed for at least 1 second with the flash unit attached.
When a flash unit is attached, the shutter will not be released if you press
the shutter button completely at once. The shutter will only be released if
you press and hold the shutter button for at least 1 second.
With an EX-series Speedlite not compatible with flash function settings
(p.222), only [ Flash exposure compensation ] can be set for [External
flash func. setting ]. (With certain EX-series Speedlites, [ Shutter
synchronization ] can also be set.)
If flash exposure compensation is set with the external Speedlite, the
flash exposure compensation icon displayed on the camera’s LCD
monitor will change from y to 0 .
If the Speedlite’s Custom Function has the flash metering mode set to
TTL autoflash, the flash will fire at full output only.
With external flashes other than the EX-series Speedlites equipped with
an LED light, the AF-assist beam will not be emitted.
If the camera is used with a flash unit or flash accessory dedicated to another
camera brand, the camera may not operate properly and malfunction may result.
Do not attach a high-voltage flash unit on the camera’s hot shoe. It may not fire.

With a commercially-available Eye-Fi card already set up, you can
automatically transfer captured images to a personal computer or
upload them to an online service via a wireless LAN.
The image transfer is a function of the Eye-Fi card. For instructions on
how to set up and use the Eye-Fi card or to troubleshoot any image
transfer problems, refer to the Eye-Fi card’s instruction manual or
    contact the card’s manufacturer.
The camera is not guaranteed to support Eye-Fi card functions
(including wireless transfer). In case of an issue with an Eye-Fi
card, please check with the card manufacturer. Also note that
approval is required to use Eye-Fi cards in many countries or
regions. Without approval, use of the card is not permitted. If it
is unclear whether the card has been approved for use in your
area, please check with the card manufacturer.
    1Insert an Eye-Fi card (p.34).
    2Select [Eye-Fi settings].
    Under the [5 1] tab, select [ Eye-Fi
    settings ], then press < Q/0 >.
This menu is displayed only when an
Eye-Fi card is inserted into the
    camera.
    3Enable Eye-Fi transmission.
    Press < Q/0 >, set [Eye-Fi trans. ]
    to [ Enable], then press < Q/0 >.
If you set [ Disable], automatic
transmission will not occur even with
    the Eye-Fi card inserted
    (transmission status icon I).
    4Display the connection
    information.
Select [ Connection info. ], then press
    < Q /0 >.

    5Check the [Access point SSID:].
Check that an access point is
displayed for [ Access point SSID: ].
You can also check the Eye-Fi card’s
    MAC address and firmware version.
Press the < M> button three times
    to exit the menu.
    6Take the picture.
The picture is transferred and the
< H > icon switches from gray (not
connected) to one of the icons below.
     For transferred images, O is
    displayed in the shooting information
    display (p.256).
H(Gray) Not connected : No connection with access point.
H(Blinking) Connecting : Connection with access point.
H(Displayed) Connected: Connection to access point established.
H( ) Transferring : Image transfer to access point in progress.

Cautions for Using Eye-Fi CardsIf “J ” is displayed, an error occurred while retrieving the card
information. Turn the camera’s power off and on again.
Even if [Eye-Fi trans. ] is set to [Disable], it may still transmit a signal. In
hospitals, airports, and other places where wireless transmissions are
prohibited, remove the Eye-Fi card from the camera.
If the image transfer does not function, check the Eye-Fi card and
personal computer settings. For details, refer to the card’s instruction
    manual.
Depending on the wireless LAN’s connection conditions, the image
transfer may take longer or it may be interrupted.
Because of the transmission function, the Eye-Fi card may become hot.
The battery power will be consumed faster.
During the image transfer, auto power off will not take effect.
