    PC to Digital Lock Interface

    INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
    GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The AL-PCI2 is an interface cable that allows high speed
communication between a PC running DL-Windows software
and a compatible Trilogy Digital Lock, Data Transfer Module,
or an AL-PRE proximity card reader. Using the AL-PCI2, the
PC can upload or download programming to/from the lock,
    and upload event history.

    Compatible Trilogy Digital Locks:

    SPECIFICATIONS
Input Power: Supplied by the PC and lock connections
    Dimensions: 2
    5/8L x 1¼H x ¾W with 5 cord
    SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
•IBM PC or compatible desktop or notebook computer with
    233 MHz or faster processor.
•At least 10 Mb available on hard drive
•At least 64 MB of RAM memory
    •Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT4.0 or higher
    •DL-Windows
•One unused RS-232 Serial Communications port (Com 1–
4), or USB Port (see NOTE 1).

    OPERATION
For details regarding the use of the AL-PCI2, refer to DL-
    Windows User Guide OI237.
    NOTE 2:
The AL-PCI2 is designed to be used on a 9 pin serial
Com Port. If your computer has a 25 pin Com Port, a
25 pin to 9 pin adapter must be used. Warning:
Polarity MUST be observed when connecting to the
lock. The tab (–) must plug into the left hole (black).
Trilogy® is a registered trademark of Alarm Lock. Windows is a trademark of Microsoft
    NOTE 1:
The AL-PCI2 is fully RS-232 compliant and will function prop-
erly with a computer that has an RS-232 compliant serial Com
Port. However, many new notebook computers do not provide
the proper RS-232 compatible Com Port voltage levels re-
quired by the AL-PCI2. In these cases, the AL-PCI2 may not
    function properly.

To test a serial Com Port for AL-PCI2 compatibility, attach the
AL-PCI2 to the Com Port and run the DL-Windows loop-back
test. If the loop-back test fails, the Com Port is most likely not
    RS-232 complaint.

For new computers with non-RS232 compliant Com Ports, it is
recommended that the AL-PCI2 be connected to the com-
puter’s USB port. Obtain a USB converter (MX1130) from
Alarm Lock Systems. The MX1130 has been fully tested by
Alarm Lock for use with the AL-PCI2.
