You can resize an image to make the pixel count lower and save it as a 
new image. Resizing an image is  possible only with JPEG 3/H /5  
images. JPEG  6 and RAW images cannot be resized.
1Select [Resize].
  Under the [ 32] tab, select [Resize ], 
then press < 0>.
X The images will be displayed.
2Select an image.
  Turn the < 5> dial to select the 
image you want to resize.
  If you press the < u> button and turn 
the < 6> dial counterclockwise, you 
can select an image from the index 
display.
3Select the desired image size.
  Press < 0> to display the image 
sizes.
  Turn the < 5> dial to select the 
desired image size, then press < 0>.
4Save the image.
  Select [OK ] to save the resized 
image.
  Check the destination folder and 
image file number, then select [ OK].
  To resize another image, repeat steps 
2 to 4.
  Press the  button to return to 
the menu.

Sensor Cleaning
The camera has a Self Cleaning Sensor Unit attached 
to the image sensor’s front  layer (low-pass filter) to 
shake off dust automatically.
The Dust Delete Data can  also be appended to the 
image so that the dust spot s remaining can be erased 
automatically by Digital Photo Professional (provided 
software, p.410).
About smudges adhering to the front of the sensorBesides dust entering the camera  from outside, in rare cases 
lubricant from the  camera’s internal parts ma y adhere to the front of 
the sensor. If visible spots still re main after the automatic sensor 
cleaning, having the  sensor cleaned by a Ca non Service Center is 
recommended.
Even while the Self Cleaning Sens or Unit is operating, you can 
press the shutter button  halfway to interrupt the cleaning and start 
shooting immediately.

Whenever you set the power switch to  or , the 
Self Cleaning Sensor Unit operates to automatically shake off the dust 
on the front of the sensor. Normally,  you need not pay attention to this 
operation. However, you can select  to perform sensor cleaning at any 
time, or disable it.
1Select [Sensor cleaning].
 Under the [ 53] tab, select [ Sensor 
cleaning], then press < 0>.
2Select [Clean nowf ].
 Select [Clean now f], then press 
< 0 >.
  Select [OK ] on the dialog screen, 
then press < 0>.
X The screen will indicate that the 
sensor is being cleaned. Although 
there will be a shutter sound during 
the cleaning, a picture is not taken.
  In step 2, select [ Auto cleaningf] and set it to [ Disable].
X The sensor cleaning will no lon ger be executed when you set the 
power switch to < 1/R > or .

Disabling Automatic Sensor Cleaning
 For best results, perform the sensor  cleaning with the camera placed 
upright and stable on a ta ble or other flat surface.
  Even if you repeat  the sensor cleaning, the re sult will not improve much. 
Immediately after the sensor  cleaning is finished, the [Clean nowf] 
option will remain  disabled temporarily.

Normally, the Self Cleaning Sensor Unit will eliminate most of the dust 
that may be visible on captured images . However, in case visible dust 
still remains, you can append the Du st Delete Data to the image for 
erasing the dust spots later. The Dust  Delete Data is used by Digital 
Photo Professional (provided softwa re, p.410) to erase the dust spots 
automatically.
 Prepare a solid white object such as a sheet of paper.
  Set the lens focal length to 50 mm or longer.
  Set the lens focus mode switch to < MF> and set the focus to infinity 
( ∞ ). If the lens has no distance scale,  look at the front of the lens and 
turn the focusing ring clockwise all the way.
1Select [Dust Delete Data].
  Under the [ z3] tab, select [Dust 
Delete Data ], then press < 0>.
2Select [OK].
  Select [OK ] and press < 0>. After 
the automatic self-cleaning of the 
sensor is performed, a message will 
appear. Although there will be a 
shutter sound during the cleaning, no 
picture is taken.

3Photograph a solid-white object.
 At a distance of 20 cm - 30 cm (0.7 ft. 
- 1.0 ft.), fill the viewfinder with a 
patternless, solid-white object and 
take a picture.

The picture will be taken in aperture-
priority AE mode at an aperture of  f/22.
  Since the image will  not be saved, the 
data can be obtained even if there is 
no card in the camera.
X
When the picture is taken, the camera 
will start collecting the Dust Delete 
Data. When the Dust Delete Data is 
obtained, a message will appear. Select 
[
OK], and the menu  will reappear.
 If the data was not obtained 
successfully, a message to that effect 
will appear. Follow the “Preparation” 
procedure on the preceding page, then 
select [
OK]. Take the picture again.
After the Dust Delete Data is obt ained, it is appended to all the JPEG 
and RAW images captured thereafter.  Before an important shoot, you 
should update the Dust Delete Data by obtaining it again.
For details about using Digital Phot o Professional (provided software, 
p.410) to erase dust spots, refer  to the Software Instruction Manual 
(p.412) on the Software In struction Manual CD-ROM.
The Dust Delete Data appended to the image is so small that it hardly 
affects the image file size.
About the Dust Delete Data
Be sure to use a solid-white object such  as a new sheet of white paper. If the 
paper has any pattern or design, it ma y be recognized as dust data and 
affect the accuracy of the du st deletion with the software.

Dust that could not be removed by the automatic sensor cleaning can 
be removed manually with a blower,  etc. Before cleaning the sensor, 
detach the lens from the camera.
The surface of the image sensor is extremely delicate. If the 
sensor needs to be cleaned directly, having it done by a Canon 
Service Center is recommended.
1Select [Sensor cleaning].
  Under the [ 53] tab, select [ Sensor 
cleaning], then press < 0>.
2Select [Clean manually].
  Select [Clean manually], then press 
.
3Select [OK].
  Select [OK ], then press < 0>.
X In a moment, the reflex mirror will 
lockup and the shutter will open.
  “CLn ” will blink on the top LCD panel.
4Clean the sensor.
5End the cleaning.
 Set the power switch to < 2>.
3  Manual Sensor Cleaning
If you use a battery, make  sure it is fully charged.
As power source, using the AC Adapte r Kit ACK-E4 (sold separately) is 
recommended.

3 Manual Sensor Cleaning
 While cleaning the sensor, never do  any of the following. Doing any 
of the following will  cut off the power and close the shutter. The 
shutter curtains and image se nsor may then get damaged.
•  Setting the power switch to < 2>.
•  Removing or inserting the battery.
  The surface of the image  sensor is extremely delicate. Clean the sensor 
with care.
  Use a plain blower without any brus h attached. A brush can scratch the 
sensor.
  Do not insert the blower tip inside th e camera beyond the lens mount. If 
the power is cut off, the shutter will  close and the shutter curtains or 
reflex mirror may get damaged.
  Never use canned air or gas to clea n the sensor. The blowing force can 
damage the sensor or the spray  gas can freeze on the sensor.
  If the battery level becomes low whil e you clean the sensor, the beeper 
will sound as a warning.  Stop cleaning the sensor.
  If a smudge that cannot be removed  with a blower remains, having the 
sensor cleaned by a Canon Se rvice Center is recommended.

Printing Images and TransferringImages to a Computer
 Printing (p.302)
You can connect the camera directly to a printer and print 
out the images on the card. The  camera is compatible with 
“ w PictBridge” which is the standard for direct printing.
  Digital Print Order Format (DPOF)  (p.309)
DPOF (Digital Print Order Fo rmat) enables you to print 
images recorded on the card according to your printing 
instructions such as the image  selection, quantity to print, 
etc. You can print multiple images in one batch or give the 
print order to a photofinisher.
  Transferring Images to a Personal Computer  (p.313)
You can connect the camera to a personal computer and 
operate the camera to transfer images recorded on the card 
to the personal computer.

The direct printing procedure can be performed entirely with the 
camera while you look at the LCD monitor.
