    DEFINITY AUDIX Administration
This c hapter d esc rib es how to imp lement the AMIS Analog Networking and /or
Messag e Delivery features on a DEFINITY AUDIX R1.0 or later system.
    Information is organized as follows:
    nImp lementation and testing
    nOngoing administration
    NOTE:
To ad minister AMIS analog networking on an AUDIX R1 system, refer to
Chap ter 3, AUDIX Ad ministration. To ad minister AMIS analog networking
on an Intuity system, refer to Chap ter 5, Intuity System AMIS
    Ad ministration
    .
Planning is the essential first step in imp lementing the AMIS Analog Networking
and /or Messag e Delivery features. Review Chap ter 2, Planning and Desig n,
b efore starting the step s in this sec tion. Network ad ministration should not beg in
until the loc al system is running smoothly and the ad ministrator has had some
exp erienc e ad ministering it.
    !WARNING:
In ord er to minimize exp osure to unauthorized long d istanc e c alls, the AMIS
Analog Networking and Messag e Delivery features should b e restric ted to
send ing messag es to telep hone numb ers loc ated in spec ific c alling areas
or to sp ec ific d estinations need ed to c ond uc t b usiness. Ad d itionally, the
ad ministrator may use the Messag e Send ing Restric tions feature to
ad minister whic h sub sc rib ers c an send AMIS analog networking and
messag e d elivery messag es, and to whic h loc ations they c an send
    messag es.

Task 3: Administer Loopback Test Mailbox
    (Optional)
This task is op tional for the AMIS Analog Networking feature and d oes not ap p ly
to the Message Delivery feature. The loop bac k test mailb ox is used to test the
AMIS Analog Networking feature. Any messag e d elivered to this mailb ox c auses
a rep ly to be sent to the send ing mailb ox.
If a remote user sends an AMIS messag e to this mailb ox, the loc al system send s
a c op y of the message to the
inc oming mailb ox of the remote user to ind ic ate the
messag e was rec eived . The loc al loop b ac k test mailb ox keep s a c op y of the

    2. Go throug h the following sc reen fields b y p ressing the or arrow keys,
and c hang e any fields need ed to imp lement the AMIS Analog Networking
    or Messag e Delivery features:
    a. CALLBACK NUMBERS (or CALLBACK NUMBER p rior to R3.0)
Enter the c omp lete telep hone numb er need ed for the remote
mac hine to c all the loc al system. The Loc al Numb er is the hunt
g roup number assig ned to the analog voic e p orts.
The Country Code c an have a maximum of four dig its, the
Area/Trunk Numb er a maximum of seven, and the Loc al Numb er a
    maximum of 15. However, the
complete callbac k number (c ountry
c od e, area/trunk number, and loc al number) c annot exc eed 15
d ig its. A c ountry c od e and an area/trunk numb er are always
rec ommend ed and may b e req uired .
Some examp les of c ountry c od es are:
nIf the loc al system is in the United States or Canad a and
uses the public network, enter a 1
     for the c ountry c od e.
nIf you are in another c ountry, enter the ap p rop riate c ountry
    c od e (suc h as 44
for the United King d om). Country c odes
should b e listed in your loc al phone b ook.
nOn DEFINITY AUDIX R2.0 or later systems, you may enter a
    country code of 0
to allow a DEFINITY AUDIX system to work
in a mixed -vend or environment over a private network; this
    c od e may b e used for p rivate networks in any c ountry. (A
c ountry c od e of “ 0” is not allowed on DEFINITY AUDIX R1.0
    systems.)
On DEFINITY AUDIX R3.0 and later systems, up to five c allbac k
numbers may be defined. This allows different nodes to use
d ifferent telep hone numb ers to c all the same AMIS mac hine. For
examp le, an AMIS analog network may inc lud e some nod es
ac c essed over the p ub lic network, and other nod es ac c essed over
a p rivate network. Vend ors other than Luc ent Tec hnolog ies may
also req uire the AMIS c allb ac k numb ers to b e ad ministered in a
p artic ular way. For c onvenienc e, c allb ac k numbers that are
ad ministered on this sc reen are also listed on Pag e 2 of the
Mac hine sc reen, so you c an easily selec t the ap p rop riate c allb ac k
numb er you wish to use for eac h remote AMIS mac hine.
    The d efault c allb ac k number is “ 1” . If a system with a sing le
c allb ac k numb er is up g rad ed to run R3.0 or later software, the
    existing c allb ac k number will b e p lac ed in the d efault selec tion “ 1” .
If an ad d itional c allbac k numb er is d efined on this sc reen and then
d eleted , the Callb ac k Numb er field on the Mac hine sc reen for any
remote nod e that used that numb er will automatic ally b e c hang ed
to show the d efault c allb ac k numb er “ 1” . An entry will ap p ear in the
ad ministration log whenever c allbac k numb ers are d eleted or
changed (refer to Ap p end ix A, Ad ministration Log Entries, for a
c omp lete list of AMIS ad ministration c odes).

b . AMIS Analog Networking Inc oming Allowed ?
This field app lies only to AMIS analog networking .
Set this field to “ y” if you want the loc al system to ac c ep t inc oming
AMIS analog c alls. Set this field to “ n” if you want the loc al system
to refuse inc oming AMIS c alls.
c . AMIS Analog Networking Outg oing Allowed ?
    This field applies to
both AMIS analog networking and messag e
    delivery.
Set this field to “ y” if you want the loc al system sub sc rib ers to send
AMIS analog networking and /or messag e d elivery messag es. Set
this field to “ n” if you want to p revent sub sc rib ers from send ing
AMIS analog networking and /or messag e d elivery messag es.
    d . AMIS Prefix
This field app lies only to AMIS analog networking .
You may enter an AMIS p refix to id entify an ad d ress as an AMIS
analog ad d ress. If the add ress rang es d efined for AMIS one- or
two-step add ressing d o not overlap with any p reviously d efined
ad d ress rang es, it is not nec essary to d efine an AMIS p refix.
However, if any AMIS or messag e d elivery ad d ress rang es overlap ,
you may need to administer an AMIS p refix to make the AMIS
    ad d resses uniq ue.
    NOTE:
If an AMIS prefix is d efined , sub sc rib ers must d ial the AMIS
p refix when add ressing AMIS analog messag es. The AMIS
    prefix
must p rec ed e any other d igits in the ad d ress p refix(es)
that sub sc rib ers d ial; these are sp ec ified on the Mac hine
    sc reen.

e.AMIS Protoc ol—Use 8 Minutes For Inc oming Messag e Leng th 0?
This field app lies only to AMIS analog networking .
Some non-Luc ent Tec hnolog ies remote voic e mail systems c annot
sp ec ify the messag e leng th and use a zero (0) in the protoc ol. This
field enab les the loc al system to rec ord these inc oming messages
    as follows:
    nEn t e r y
for the loc al system to assume an inc oming messag e
of unknown leng th is 8 minutes long (the maximum leng th
allowed b y the AMIS p rotoc ol sp ec ific ation).
    nEn t e r n
if you d o not want the loc al system to assume an
inc oming messag e of unknown leng th is 8 minutes long . In
this case, the system uses the number in the Message
Leng ths, Maximum field on the System-Parameters Limits
sc reen; AMIS messag es long er than this system limit will not
    be accepted.
In either c ase, if an inc oming messag e’s assumed length is long er
than the spac e c urrently availab le in a sub sc rib er’s mailb ox,
    d elivery of the messag e will b e aborted .
    f. AMIS Loop b ac k Test Mailb ox Extension
This field app lies only to AMIS analog networking .
If you ad ministered an AMIS loop b ac k mailb ox in Task 3, enter the
extension for the test mailb ox in this field .
    3. Press (F3) to save any c hang es and exit the sc reen.
    4. You need to reb oot the system or run an aud it to ac tivate these c hang es
    (done in Task 8).
    Task 5: Administer Outcalling Periods
The AMIS Analog Networking and Messag e Delivery features use the outc alling
    p orts to d eliver messag es. Althoug h outcalling p eriod s must b e ad ministered ,
the Outc alling feature itself d oes
not need to be ac tive for AMIS analog
networking or messag e d elivery to work.
    NOTE:
For more effic ient use of system resourc es, the system ad ministrator may
wish to limit the times of d ay for send ing AMIS analog networking or
messag e d elivery messag es to those whic h are known to b e less busy.
To administer outc alling p arameters for AMIS analog networking or message
