Before Starting
System Requirements
• Pe rsona l Computer  : IBM PC/AT an d compatible s (CPU Pentium II or greater)
• Operating System  : Windows 98

• System Memory : The minimum recommended Memory for each OS is as follows:
• Free Disk Space  : 40MB or greater (Not including storage space for additional fonts)
• CD-ROM Drive  : Used for installing the software and utilities from the CD-ROM.

Installing the Printer Driver
This ma nual p rovides examples of instructions for installing, configuring and using the printer driver for your 
version of Windows OS.
To use as a USB Printer:
To use as  a Network Printer:
Installation Procedures
Windows 98 : Follow the procedures on pages 16 to 19. (Connecting with a USB Cable)
Windows Me : Follow the procedures on pages 
20 to 23. (Connecting with a USB Cable)
Windows NT : This Windows OS does not support a USB Printer.
Windows 2000 : Follow the procedures on pages 
24 to 26. (Connecting with a USB Cable)
Windows XP/
Windows Server 2003: Follow the procedures on pages

Mac 8.6/9x : Follow the procedures on pages

Windows
1Exit from all applications, then insert the Panasonic 
Printing System CD into the CD-ROM drive.
2Select the desired language.
Note:
1. If the CD-ROM does not launch 
automatically, double click the My Computer 
icon on the Desktop or on the Start menu, 
then double click the CD-ROM icon.
2. The language screen differ depending on the 
models.
3The setu p screen will appe ar.

4Click Printe r Driver (Pos tScript3).
5Note  for Windows 98 /Windows Me users:
If your computer does not have the LPR Port Monitor 
installed, please proceed to Installing the LPR 
Monitor on page 36 before continuing this 
installation.
Click Install Prin ter Driv er (PostScript3).
6The  setup wiza rd will sta rt.
Click the   button.
7Read the End User License Agreement, then click 
the  button.

8Select  Local Printer, the n cl ick the   
button.
9Select a printer port, normally LPT1 for local printers.
Click the   button.
10The Select Printer Model window appears.
Click the   button.
Note:
A  screen will appear  with Generic  PostScript 
Printer highlighted. Do not select this printer.
11The Brow se for Prin ter screen appears.
Select the folder directory where the PPD files are 
stored. On the CD-ROM they are under 
D:\English\PS\Setup\Windows (where D is your 
CD-ROM driver). 
The printer models are a lso displayed.
Click the   button.

12Choose your machine’s model and click the 
 button.
13Specify whether  the printer will be shared with other 
network users. Click Shared and enter a shared 
name, or click Not shared.
Click the   button.
Note:
This screen does not appear in Windows 98/
Windows Me. Sharing information is 
specified during Network Settings.
14Printer Information screen appears.
You can accept the default printer name shown or 
change it as you wish. 
Select Ye s, if you want to use this printer as your 
default Windows printer. 
Select Ye s, if you would like to print a test page.
Click the   button.
15Verify the settings in the Setup Information screen.

The Pana so nic PostScript Printe r Driver has b een installed, and the Panaso nic Printer icon ha s been  
created in the Printers folder.
NOTE1. When installing on Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000/XP/Windows Server 200, logon to the 
computer/network using an account with administrator rights.
16The Prin ter Con figuratio n screen appears.
Select Ye s, to configure your printer now.
Click the   button.

Cl ick the   button to return to th e setup 
wizard.
