Installing from your computer
You can install the applications of your computer into your CLIÉ handheld.
1Double click (Palm Desktop for CLIÉ) on the Windows
desktop.
You can also click [Start], select [Programs] ([All Programs] for Windows
XP) - [Sony Handheld], and click [Palm Desktop for CLIÉ].
Palm™ Desktop for CLIÉ starts.
2Click [Install].
The Install Tool window is displayed.
3Select the user from [User...].
4Click [Add...].

You can install the applications of your computer into your CLIÉ handheld.
1Double click (Palm Desktop for CLIÉ) on the Windows
desktop.
You can also click [Start], select [Programs] ([All Programs] for Windows
XP) - [Sony Handheld], and click [Palm Desktop for CLIÉ].
Palm™ Desktop for CLIÉ starts.
2Click [Install].
The Install Tool window is displayed.
3Select the user from [User...].

5Select applications you want to install from the folder and
click [Open].
A list of the selected applications is displayed on the Install Tool
window. Click [Remove...] to delete applications that you do not want to
install. The applications will be deleted from the list, but not from your
computer.
6Click [Done].
The confirmation window is displayed.
7Click [OK].
8Perform the local HotSync® operation.

Deleting installed add-on applications
Tip
You cannot delete the applications pre-installed in your CLIÉ handheld. Default
applications, such as Address Book and Memo Pad, cannot be deleted.

Transferring data from another CLIÉ™ handheld183 Transferring data from another CLIÉ™ handheld Notes Memory Stick Backup cannot transfer data of your CLIÉ handheld to another CLIÉ handheld. You cannot transfer applications that you installed. You need to reinstall them to your CLIÉ handheld. Some third party applications may operate only on your old CLIÉ handheld. For details, contact the application manufacturer. Transferring data using Palm™ Desktop for CLIÉ For data of the basic Palm OS® applications such as Date Book, Address, To Do List, and Memo Pad, you can use Palm™ Desktop for CLIÉ to transfer data from your old CLIÉ handheld to your new CLIÉ handheld, by exporting and importing data. Note To transfer data from your old CLIÉ handheld to your new CLIÉ handheld, use Palm™ Desktop for CLIÉ supplied with your new CLIÉ handheld, and perform the HotSync operation with your old CLIÉ handheld. In this case, it requires that the user names of both your CLIÉ handheld is not the same. Note Operate the following, after installing Palm™ Desktop for CLIÉ supplied with your new CLIÉ handheld to your computer. If the other CLIÉ handheld is new, do not delete the old Palm Desktop for CLIÉ from your computer, but install (overwrite) the new Palm Desktop for CLIÉ (supplied with the new CLIÉ handheld) into your computer. 1Connect your old CLIÉ handheld to your computer, and perform the HotSync operation. 2Double-click (Palm Desktop for CLIÉ) on your Windows desktop. Palm™ Desktop for CLIÉ starts. Tip You can also click [Start], select [Programs] ([All Programs] for Windows XP) - [Sony Handheld], and click [Palm Desktop for CLIÉ]. 3Select the user name of your previous CLIÉ handheld from the list at the top right of the screen. 4Click (Date Book) at the left side of the window. The display is changed to the Date Book window. 5Click [Export...], from [File]. The Export window is displayed. 6Enter the file name and click [Export]. Tip If you have never performed the HotSync® operation with your new CLIÉ handheld, select [Users...] from [Tools]. Click [New...] in the Users window and enter the new user name. Then select the user name you just entered. 2Click [Import...] from [File]. 3Select the files you have exported, and click [Open]. 4Perform the HotSync® operation. The data exported from your old CLIÉ handheld is copied onto your new CLIÉ handheld. Do not perform the HotSync® operation with the same user name of other CLIÉ handhelds If you perform the HotSync® operation between your new CLIÉ handheld and Palm™ Desktop for CLIÉ for your old CLIÉ handheld, and use the old user name, then setup information specific to the old CLIÉ handheld will be transferred with data. This may causes some problems. Similarly, if you try performing the HotSync ® operation with your old CLIÉ handheld, problems may also arise. Do not transfer data by this method. The screen to select the user name is displayed when performing the HotSync® operation in your CLIÉ handheld Enter a name that is different from the user name of your CLIÉ handheld being used. If the same user name is used, Palm™ Desktop for CLIÉ will not recognize your CLIÉ handheld properly and the data of the respective models will be mixed or deleted. Moreover, if you copy [Unsaved Preferences] from another CLIÉ handheld to your CLIÉ handheld, you will not be able to manage your CLIÉ handheld with another name, since the user name is also copied.
