Hints for the Timer Recording
• If there is a power failure or the unit is unplugged for 
more than 30 seconds, the clock setting and all 
timer settings will be lost.
• If a disc is not inserted or if a inserted disc is not 
recordable (finalised DVD-RW/-R, finalised DVD+R, 
a fully recorded disc, etc.),   flashes and timer 
recording cannot be performed. In some cases,   
will appear momentarily around the start...

Timer Recording (EPG)
With EPG system, you can programme  DVB channel 
recording much easier. You only choose a programme 
and enter the selection.
1While viewing DVB channel, press 
[GUIDE]. 
 List of DVB channels will be displayed.
2Select a desired channel using 
[U / D], then press [ENTER/OK].
Time schedule of the DVB channel will be 
displayed.
• If you press [BLUE] instead of [ENTER/OK] 
after you select a channel using [U / D], you 
can watch the selected channel.

Connection to External Equipment
Connect the external equipment using either the input 
jacks, AV1, AV2 (Rear) or AV3 (Front). However, for 
AV3 jacks, you have to select S-VIDEO input or 
VIDEO input jacks depending on the connected 
devices.
Use a commercially available Scart, S-Video or Video 
cable and an Audio cable for this connection.
1In stop mode, press [SETUP]. Select 
“General Setting” using [U / D], 
then press [ENTER/OK].

Setting a Disc to Protect
To prevent accidental over-recording, editing or 
erasing of recordings, you can protect them using the 
Setup menu.
Insert a recordable disc.
1In stop mode, press [SETUP].
2Select “DVD Menu” using [U / D], 
then press [ENTER/OK].
3Select “Disc Protect OFF   ON” 
using [U / D], then press 
[ENTER/OK].
4Select “Yes” using [U / D], then 
press [ENTER/OK].
The disc is protected.
5Press [SETUP]...

5Finalising is complete.
Hint
• Finalising a disc in Video mode and +VR mode 
automatically creates a Title menu.
• After you finalise the DVD+RW disc, you can call up 
the title list by pressing [TOP MENU], or you can call 
up the Title menu by pressing [DISC MENU].
• Even after DVD+RW disc is finalised, you can still 
record or edit. After you finalise DVD-RW/-R or 
DVD+R disc, you cannot edit or record anything else 
on that disc.
• To release the finalisation of the disc, select “Undo 
Finalise”...

Basic Playback
Hint for DVD Playback
The contents of a DVD are generally divided into 
titles. Titles are sometimes further subdivided into 
chapters.
Playing Back a DVD-RW / DVD-R / 
DVD+RW / DVD+R Disc
1Press [ ON / STANDBY] to turn on 
the unit.
Turn on the TV and be sure to select the input to 
which the unit is connected.
2Press [OPEN / CLOSE O] to open the 
disc tray.

1Follow steps 1 to 4 in “Playing Back 
a DVD-RW / DVD-R / DVD+RW / 
DVD+R Disc” on page 47. 
The File List will appear.
To exit the File List, press [TOP MENU] again or 
press [STOP S].
To resume the File List, press [TOP MENU].
2Press [U / D] to select the desired 
folder or track / file, then press 
[ENTER/OK].
If a track / file is selected:
Playback will start.
If a folder is selected:
The files in the folder will appear.

Files in the 9th or deeper hierarchies cannot be 
played back.
• If the track extends beyond the scope of screen, a 
down arrow “ ” appears, indicating that the user 
can view another part on the previous page. The 
current page number and the number of total pages 
are shown on the right of the down arrow “ ”.
• Letters of a file / folder name overflowing the given 
space will be displayed as “…”.
