    This Owners Manual does not contain the information for the Printer, Scanner 
    and PC Fax. When you are ready to learn detailed information about these 
    operations, read the complete Owners Manual that is included on the CD-ROM.
    To View On-Line Documentation
    (For Windows® Users):
    1Turn on your PC. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
    2If the model name screen appears, click your model name.
    The CD-ROM main menu will appear.
    3Click On-Line Documentation.
    4Click the documentation you want to read.
    To View On-Line Documentation 
    (For Macintosh® Users):
    1Turn on your Macintosh. Insert the 
    CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
    The following window will appear.
    2Double-click the Documents icon.
    3If you see English and French folders, 
    double-click your language.
    4Double-click the icon for the documentation you want to read.
    NoteIf this window does not appear, use Windows® Explorer to run the setup.exe 
    program from the root directory of the Brother CD-ROM.

    Using This Manual
    Thank you for purchasing a Brother fax machine or multi-function center (FAX/
    MFC). This FAX/MFC has been designed to be simple to use, with LCD screen 
    prompts to guide you through programming your MFC. However, you can use 
    your FAX/MFC to its fullest potential by taking a few minutes to read this 
    manual.
    Finding Information
    All chapter headings and subheadings are listed in the Table of Contents. You 
    will be able to find information about a specific feature or operation by checking 
    the Index in the back of this manual.
    Conventions Used in this Manual
    Throughout this manual you’ll see special symbols alerting you to important 
    information, warnings, and actions to perform. For clarification, and to help you 
    choose the correct key presses, we’ve added illustrations of some LCD 
    messages.
    boldfaceBold typeface identifies a specific key on the FAX/MFC control panel.
    italicsItalics typeface emphasize an important point, or refer you to related 
    topic.
    bubble dotBubble Dot typeface identifies the messages on the LCD of the FAX/
    MFC.
    Additionally, your FAX/MFC has a Reports key. Press Reports and 1 to print a list
