the camcorder back to record pause mode.
    • After the clip finishes playing back, the camcorder returns to
    record pause mode.
    Options
    NOTES
    • During a special recording mode, you cannot review a clip.
    • If the camcorder switched SD cards during a recording, the camcorder will play back the clip on the SD card
most recently recorded on. Operating modes:

    							Selecting the File Numbering Method
    96
    Selecting the File Numbering Method
MP4 clips and photos are automatically assigned consecutive numbers
and stored on the SD card in folders. You can select the file numbering
method to be used. We recommend using the [Continuous] setting.
1 Open the [File Numbering] submenu.
    [wOther Functions] > [File Numbering]
2 Select the desired option and then press the joystick.
    Options
    NOTES
    • Each folder can contain up to 500 recordings. When that number is exceeded, a new folder is created
    automatically.
    • If you select [Continuous], you can reset the file numbering using the [w Other Functions] > [Reset] > [All
Settings] setting. However, this will also reset all of the camcorder's settings. Operating modes:
[Reset]: File numbers will restart from 100-0001 every time you insert a new SD card. If an SD card already
contains previous recordings, file numbers will continue from the number following that of the last file on
    the SD card.
[Continuous]: File numbers will continue from the number following that of the last MP4 clip or photo recorded with the
camcorder. This setting is the most convenient for managing files on a computer.
    [wOther Functions]
    [File Numbering]
    [Continuous]
    Understanding folder names
    • An example folder name is "101_1025". The first 3 digits indicate the folder number (from 100 to 999) and
the last 4 digits indicate the month and day when the folder was created. In the example, the folder
numbered 101 was created on October 25.
    Understanding file numbers
    • An example file number is "101-0107". The first 3 digits indicate the folder number the recording is stored in
and the last 4 digits indicate the consecutive number assigned to the recording (from 0001 to 9999).
    • The file number also indicates the name and location of the file on the SD card. For example, an MP4 clip/
photo numbered 101-0107 that was recorded on October 25, is located in the “DCIM\101_1025” folder as
    the file “MVI_0107.MP4” or “IMG_0107.JPG”.

    Special Recording Modes
    Special Recording Modes
The camcorder features the following special recording modes.
Pre-recording: The camcorder will start recording approximately 3 seconds before you press the START/STOP
button. This is especially useful when it is difficult to predict when to start recording.
Slow & fast motion recording: This mode allows you to change the shooting frame rate to achieve a slow motion
or fast motion effect during playback.
    Pre-recording Mode
When pre-recording mode is activated, the camcorder starts recording continuously into a temporary memory of
approximately 3 seconds so when you press the START/STOP button, the clip will contain also approximately
3 seconds of video and audio recorded before you pressed the button.
1 Open the [Pre Rec] submenu.
    [wOther Functions] > [Special Recording] > [Pre-Recording]
2 Select [On] and then press the joystick.
    • [PRE REC STBY] appears at the top of the screen.
3 Press the START/STOP button to begin recording.
    • The rear and front tally lamps illuminate.
    • [PRE REC STBY] changes to [ÜPRE REC] while recording.
4 Press the START/STOP button again to stop recording.
    • The camcorder records the clip, including approximately 3 seconds of video and audio recorded before the
    START/STOP button was pressed.
    • Both tally lamps will go out and [PRE REC STBY] appears at the top of the screen.
    NOTES
    • During pre-recording mode, if the camcorder is left in record pause mode for approximately 1 hour,
    pre-recording will be deactivated automatically.
    • Pre-recording mode cannot be used with deleting the last clip recorded, reviewing a recording, continuous
recording or slow & fast recording mode.
    • During pre-recording mode, the time code will be recorded with the running mode (A81) set to [Free Run],
regardless of the previous setting. When the time code is recorded, it will include the 3 seconds before the
START/STOP button was pressed. When pre-recording mode is deactivated, the running mode will return to
    its previous setting.
    Slow & Fast Motion Mode
When recording an MP4 clip, the camcorder can record with a frame rate (shooting frame rate) that is different
from the playback frame rate. Recording a clip at a higher frame rate than the [Frame Rate] setting will result in a
slow motion effect during playback. Conversely, a lower frame rate will result in a fast motion effect. Sound is not
recorded in this special recording mode. Operating modes:

(for 50.00 Hz recordings) and then press the joystick.
    • Available shooting frame rates depend on the video configuration.
    • [S&F STBY] appears at the top of the screen.
    • The selected shooting frame rate appears on the right of the screen
next to the frame rate setting (the playback frame rate).
    • Select [Off] instead to deactivate slow & fast recording mode.
3 Press the START/STOP button to begin recording.
    • The front and rear tally lamps illuminate.

    • The clip is recorded at the selected frame rate.
    • The tally lamps go out and [S&F STBY] appears at the top of the screen.
    Available shooting frame rates
    * Slow & fast recording mode is not available when the bit rate is 4 Mbps or 3 Mbps.
    NOTES
    • Slow & fast recording mode cannot be used with relay recording, pre-recording, continuous recording or
double slot recording. Taking photos is also not available.
    • While recording, you cannot change the shooting frame rate.
    • For lower shooting frame rates, it may take approximately 1 second to stop recording.
    • Slow & fast recording mode will be deactivated if you change the video configuration.
    • During this special recording mode, the time code's running mode (A 81) will be set to [Rec Run] or [Regen.]
and the time code advances by the number of frames recorded. If the time code's running mode is set to [Free
Run], the running mode will switch to [Rec Run] during special recording mode. When slow & fast recording
mode is deactivated, the running mode will return to its previous setting.

    Continuous Recording
    Continuous Recording
Using continuous recording you can avoid missing important shooting opportunities. You need to activate the
continuous recording mode using the menu. Once continuous recording has started, the camcorder will keep
recording until you access the menu to stop recording. During continuous recording, the clip is recorded to both
SD cards (double slot recording) so you can have an additional copy of your continuous recording.
During continuous recording, press the START/STOP button to set in and out points* in the recording. In
mode, you can display a special index screen of shots (A125) and play back and delete specific shots. The in
and out point information can also be read by compatible NLE software** and used for editing.
    * In points and out points are marks in the continuous recording clips that indicate the beginning and end point of important parts in
    the recording.
** For details about compatible software, visit your local Canon Web site.
1 Open the continuous recording [Mode] submenu.
[wOther Functions] > [Continuous Rec] > [Mode]
2 Select [On] and then press the joystick.
    • [CONT STBY] appears at the top of the screen and the camcorder
will enter continuous recording standby mode.

    left of the screen.
3 Open the continuous recording [Start/Stop] submenu.
    [wOther Functions] > [Continuous Rec] > [Start/Stop]
4 Select [Start] and press the joystick.
    • The rear and front tally lamps illuminate and continuous recording will
start. [CONT] will be displayed in red and the time code will start
    running.
    • At the same time, the first shot's in point is recorded. [STBY] changes
to [ÜREC] and the total shot recording time will start advancing.
    • Alternatively, you can press START/STOP to begin recording.
5 Press the START/STOP button as necessary to set additional in
