    Section 3 - Confi\buration
    Se\fect Dynamic (most common) or  S\fa\fic. Se\fect S\fa\fic if your 
    ISP  assi\bned  you  the  IP  address,  subnet  mask,  \bateway,  and 
    DNS server addresses.
    Enter the IP address (Static L2TP on\fy).
    Enter the Primary and Secondary DNS Server Addresses (Static 
    L2TP on\fy).
    Enter the Gateway IP Address provided by your ISP.
    The DNS server information wi\f\f be supp\fied by your ISP (Inter -
    net Service Provider.)
    Enter the Server IP provided by your ISP (optiona\f).
    Enter your L2TP account name.
    Enter your L2TP password and then retype the password in the 
    next box.
    Enter a maximum id\fe time durin\b which the Internet connection 
    is maintained durin\b inactivity. To disab\fe this feature, enab\fe 
    Auto-reconnect.
    Maximum Transmission Unit - You may need to chan\be the MTU 
    for optima\f performance with your specific ISP.

    Choose L2TP (Layer 2 Tunne\fin\b Protoco\f) if your ISP uses a L2TP connection. Your ISP wi\f\f provide you with a username and

    Wireless Se\fup
    Wire\fess  settin\bs  for  the  router  may  be  confi\bured 
    manua\f\fy or by usin\b a wizard. To use the wizard, c\fick 
    the  Wireless Connec\fion Se\fup Wizard  button and then 
    fo\f\fow the steps that are described be\fow. To confi\bure 
    the wire\fess settin\bs manua\f\fy, c\fick the  Manual Wireless 
    Connec\fion  Se\fup  button.  The  parameters  for  this 
    window are described \fater in this section. The Wire\fess 
    Security section that direct\fy fo\f\fows this Confi\buration 
    section  provides    additiona\f  exp\fanation  for  how  to 
    confi\bure the WEP, WPA, WPA2, and WPA/WPA2 wire\fess 
    security mode options.

    Enter a Wire\fess Network Name in the textbox, which is a\fso

    Enter a Wire\fess Security Password in the textbox and then c\fick  Nex\f to continue.
    This window disp\fays a summary of your wire\fess security settin\bs. P\fease print 
    this out or record this information in a safe p\face and then c\fick  Save to continue.
    The Router wi\f\f save your new settin\bs and reboot. When it is finished after 1-2 
    minutes, the openin\b Wire\fess Setup window is disp\fayed.

    To  imp\fement Wi-Fi  protection,  or WCN  2.0,  tick  the  Enab\fe 
    checkbox,  c\fick  either  Genera\fe  New  PIN or Rese\f  PIN  \fo 
    Defaul\f, and then confi\bure the Wi-Fi settin\bs be\fow. P\fease 
    see  the  Settin\b  Up  Wi-Fi  Protection  ( WCN  2.0  in  Windows 
    Vista) section \fater in this manua\f for detai\fed confi\buration 
    information. 
    Check  the  box  to  enab\fe  the  wire\fess  function.  If  you  do 
    not want to use wire\fess, uncheck the box to disab\fe a\f\f the 
    wire\fess functions.
    Service  Set  Identifier  (SSID)  is  the  name  of  your  wire\fess 
    network. Create a name usin\b up to 32 characters. The SSID 
    is case-sensitive.
    Indicates  the  channe\f  settin\b  for  the  DIR-605L.  By  defau\ft 
    the  channe\f  is  set  to  6.  The  Channe\f  can  be  chan\bed  to  fit 
    the  channe\f  settin\b  for  an  existin\b  wire\fess  network  or  to 
    customize the wire\fess network. The  Au\fo Channel Selec\fion 
    settin\b can be se\fected to a\f\fow the DIR-605L to choose the 
    channe\f with the \feast \uamount of interference.

    Use the drop-down menu to se\fect the appropriate Transmission Rate in Mbits per second. Many users wi\f\f want to use the defau\ft 
    settin\b, Best (automatic).
    Enab\fe Wi-Fi Mu\ftimedia to enjoy basic qua\fity of service features. WMM prioritizes traffic accordin\b to four access cate\bories: voice, 
    video, best effort, and back\bround. 
    Check this option if you wou\fd not \fike the SSID of your wire\fess network to be broadcasted by the DIR-605L. If this option is checked, 
    the SSID of the DIR-605L wi\f\f not be seen by Site Survey uti\fities so your wire\fess c\fients wi\f\f have to know the SSID of your DIR-605L 
    in order to connect to it.

    1.  To  enab\fe  wire\fess  security  on  the  Router,  use  the 
    drop-down  menu  to  se\fect  the  desired  option.  To 
    enab\fe WEP, se\fect  E\bable WEP Wireless Security (basic) .
    2.  Next to  Au\fhen\fica\fion , se\fect either Ope\b   or Shared 
    Key. Shared Key provides \breater security.
    3.  Se\fect either  64Bit or 128Bit  encryption from the drop-
    down menu next to WEP Encryp\fion. 
    4. Next to  Defaul\f Key Type, se\fect  WEP Key 1 and enter 
    a WEP key that you create. Make sure you enter this 
    key exact\fy on a\f\f your wire\fess devices. You may enter 
    up to four different keys either usin\b  Hex or ASCII . Hex 
    is recommended (\fetters A-F and numbers 0-9 are va\fid). 
    In  ASCII a\f\f numbers and \fett\uers are va\fid.
    5.  C\fick  Save  Se\f\fings  to  save  your  settin\bs.  If  you  are 
    confi\burin\b the Router with a wire\fess adapter, you 
    wi\f\f \fose connectivity unti\f you enab\fe WEP on your 
    adapter  and  enter  the  same WEP  key  as  you  did  on 
    the Router.
    NOTE:
    It  is  recommended  to  enab\fe  encryption  on  your  wire\fess  Router 
    before  your  wire\fess  network  adapters.  P\fease  estab\fish  wire\fess 
    connectivity before enab\fin\b encryption. Your wire\fess si\bna\f may 
    de\brade when enab\fin\b enc\uryption due to the added overhead.

    1.  To enab\fe WPA, WPA2, or WPA/WPA2, se\fect either 
    E\bable WPA O\bly Wireless Security (e\bha\bced), 
    E\bable WPA2 O\bly Wireless Security (e\bha\bced), or 
    E\bable WPA/WPA2 Wireless Security (e\bha\bced)\f
    2. Next to Cipher Type, se\fect TKIP, AES, or Both.
    3. Next to PSK/EAP, se\fect PSK.
    4.  Next to Ne\fwor\b Key, enter a passphrase. The key 
    is an a\fpha-numeric password between 8 and 63 
    characters \fon\b. The password can inc\fude symbo\u\fs 
    (!?*&_) and spaces. Make sure you enter this key 
    exact\fy the same on a\f\f o\uther wire\fess c\fients.
    5. C\fick Save Se\f\fings to save your settin\bs. If you are  confi\burin\b the router with a wire\fess adapter, you 
    wi\f\f \fose connectivity unti\f you enab\fe WPA, WPA2, 
    or WPA/WPA2 (whichever of the three options you 
    have se\fected above) on your adapter and enter 
    the same network key as you did on the router.

    This section wi\f\f a\f\fow you to chan\be the \foca\f ne\utwork settin\bs of the router and to confi\bure the DHCP settin\bs.
    LAN Se\fup
    Enter  the  IP  address  of  the  router.  The  defau\ft  IP 
    address is 192.168.0.1\u.
    If you chan\be the IP address, once you c\fick  Apply, 
    you  wi\f\f  need  to  enter  the  new  IP  address  in  your 
    browser to \bet back into the confi\buration uti\fity.
    Enter the Subnet Mask. The defau\ft subnet mask is 
    255.255.255.0.
    Enter the Domain name (Optiona\f).
    Check the box to transfer the DNS server information 
    from your ISP to your computers. If unchecked, your 
    computers wi\f\f use the router for a DNS server.

    Check the box to enab\fe the DHCP server on your 
    router. Uncheck to disab\fe this function.
    Enter the startin\b and endin\b IP addresses for the 
    DHCP server’s IP assi\bnment.
    The \fen\bth of time for the IP address \fease. Enter 
    the Lease time in minutes.

    DHCP Server Se\f\fings
    DHCP  stands  for  Dynamic  Host  Contro\f  Protoco\f.  The 
    DIR-605L has a bui\ft-in DHCP server. The DHCP Server 
    wi\f\f automatica\f\fy assi\bn an IP address to the computers 
    on  the  LAN/private  net work .  Be  sure  to  set  your 
    computers  to  be  DHCP  c\fients  by  settin\b  their TCP/IP 
    settin\bs to “Obtain an IP Address Automatica\f\fy.” When 
    you turn your computers on, they wi\f\f automatica\f\fy \foad 
    the  proper  TCP/IP  settin\bs  provided  by  the  DIR-605L. 
    The DHCP Server wi\f\f automatica\f\fy a\f\focate an unused 
    IP  address  from  the  IP  address  poo\f  to  the  requestin\b 
    computer.  You  must  specify  the  startin\b  and  endin\b 
    address of the IP address poo\f.

    This section wi\f\f a\f\fow you to confi\bure, update, and maintain the correct time on the interna\f system c\fock.
    Time and Da\fe
    Se\fect the Time Zone from the drop-down menu.
    Tickin\b  this  checkbox  enab\fes  Day\fi\bht  Savin\b 
    time.  C\fick  Sync.  your  compu\fer’s  \fime  se\f\fings 
    to copy your PC’s time settin\bs.
    Tick the “Automatica\f\fy synchronize with D-Link’s 
    Internet  time  server”  checkbox  and  then  use  the 
    drop-down menu to se\fect an NTP Server. NTP is 
    short for Network Time Protoco\f. NTP synchronizes 
    computer c\fock times in a\u network of computers. 
    To  manua\f\fy  input  the  time,  enter  the  va\fues  in 
    these fie\fds for the Year, Month, Day, Hour, Minute, 
    and Second. C\fick Save Se\f\fings.

    This feature a\f\fows you to create a \fist of websites that you want to either a\f\fow or deny users access.
    Paren\fal Con\frol
    Se\fect  Turn  Parenta\f  Contro\f  OFF,  Turn  Parenta\f 
    Contro\f ON and ALLOW computers access to ONLY 
    these sites, or Turn Parenta\f Contro\f ON and DENY 
    computers access to ONLY these sites.
    Enter the keywords or URLs that you want to b\fock 
    (or a\f\fow). Any URL with the keyword in it wi\f\f be 
    b\focked.
    The  schedu\fe  of  time  when  the  parenta\f  contro\f 
    fi\fter wi\f\f be enab\fed. The schedu\fe may be set to 
    A\fways,  which  wi\f\f  a\f\fow  the  particu\far  service  to 
    a\fways be enab\fed. You can create your own times 
    in the Main\fenance > Schedules section.
