    Center Control Cover

    CAUTION:  To  avoid  electrostatic  discharge,  ground  yourself  by  using  a wrist  grounding  strap  or  by  periodically  touching  an  unpainted  metal surface (such as a connector on the back of the computer). 
    CAUTION: Only a certified service technician should perform repairs on your computer. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell™ is not covered by your warranty. 
    CAUTION: To help prevent damage to the system board, remove the main battery  (see  “Removing  the  Battery  Pack”  on  page 11)  before  working inside the computer.

    CHAPTER 8: CENTER CONTROL COVER  
    Removing the Center Control Cover
    Follow the instructions in “Before You Begin” on page 1. 6.
    Remove the battery pack (see “Removing the Battery Pack” on page 2. 11).
    Remove the compartment door (see “Removing the Compartment Door” on 3. page 14).
    Remove the two screws that secure the center control cover to the 4. computer base.

    Turn the center control cover as shown in the illustration.7. 
    Release the connector latch to disconnect the cable from the center control 8. cover connector.
    Lift the center control cover off the computer.9.

    Turn the computer top side up, and open the display as far as it will open.5. 
    CAUTION: Be extremely careful when removing the center control cover. The  center  control  cover  along  with  the  cable  that  attaches  it  to  the system board connector are very fragile.
    Pry the center control cover up with a flat blade screwdriver until you 6. see the cable that attaches the center control cover to the system board connector.1

    Replacing the Center Control Cover
    Slide the cable into the center control cover connector and pull down the 1. connector latch to secure the cable to the connector.
    Align the center control cover with the computer and snap the cover in 2. place.
    Turn the computer over and replace the two screws that secure the center 3. control cover to the computer base.
    Replace the compartment door (see “Replacing the Compartment Door” on 4. page 14).
    Replace the battery pack (see “Replacing the Battery Pack” on page 5. 11). 
    CAUTION: Before turning on the computer, replace all screws and ensure that  no  stray  screws  remain  inside  the  computer.  Failure  to  do  so  may result in damage to the computer.

    Removing the Keyboard
    Follow the instructions in “Before You Begin” on page 1. 6.
    Remove the battery pack (see “Removing the Battery Pack” on page 2. 11).
    Remove the center control cover (see “Removing the Center Control Cover” 3. on page 33).
    Remove the five screws that secure the keyboard to the computer.4. 
    CAUTION:  Be  extremely  careful  when  removing  the  keyboard.  The keyboard  along  with  the  cables  that  attach  it  to  the  system  board connector are very fragile.
    Slide and lift the keyboard towards the display until the tabs come out of 5. the slots on the chassis.

    CHAPTER 9: KEYBOARD 
    Replacing the Keyboard
    Slide the keyboard cable and the keyboard light cable into the respective 1. system board connectors and pull down the connector latches to secure the cables to the connectors.
    Align the tabs on the keyboard with the slots on the chassis.2. 
    Replace the five screws that secure the keyboard to the computer base.3. 
    Replace the center control cover (see “Replacing the Center Control Cover” 4. on page 35).
    Replace the battery pack (see “Replacing the Battery Pack” on page 5. 11). 
    CAUTION: Before turning on the computer, replace all screws and ensure that  no  stray  screws  remain  inside  the  computer.  Failure  to  do  so  may result in damage to the computer.
    Turn the keyboard over.6. 
    Release the connector latches and disconnect the keyboard cable and 7. keyboard light cable from the respective system board connectors.
    Lift the keyboard off the computer.8.
