    CHAPTER 10: PALM REST 
    Palm Rest
    WARNING:  Before  working  inside  your  computer,  read  the  safety information that shipped with your computer. For additional safety best practices  information,  see  the  Regulatory  Compliance  Homepage  at

    CAUTION:  To  avoid  electrostatic  discharge,  ground  yourself  by  using  a wrist  grounding  strap  or  by  periodically  touching  an  unpainted  metal surface (such as a connector on the back of the computer). 
    CAUTION: Only a certified service technician should perform repairs on your computer. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell™ is not covered by your warranty. 
    CAUTION: To help prevent damage to the system board, remove the main battery  (see  “Removing  the  Battery  Pack”  on  page 11)  before  working inside the computer.

    Removing the Palm Rest
    Follow the instructions in “Before You Begin” on page 1. 6.
    Remove the battery pack (see “Removing the Battery Pack” on page 2. 11).
    Remove the three screws that secure the palm rest to the computer base.3.

    Turn the computer over and slide the palm rest out as shown in the 4. illustration.
    CAUTION: Be extremely careful when removing the palm rest. The palm rest  along  with  the  cable  that  attaches  the  touch  pad  to  the  system 
    board connector are very fragile.

    Ease the palm rest up until you see the cable that attaches the touch pad to 5. the system board connector.
    Turn the palm rest over and pull the tab on the touch pad connector to 6. disconnect the cable from the touch pad connector.
    Lift the palm rest off the computer.7.

    Replacing the Palm Rest
    Slide the touch pad cable into the touch pad connector and push the 1. connector tabs to secure the cable to the connector.
    Align the tabs on the palm rest with the slots on the computer.2. 
    Slide the palm rest into position.3. 
    Turn the computer over and replace the three screws that secure the palm 4. rest to the computer base.
    Replace the battery pack (see “Replacing the Battery Pack” on page 5. 11). 
    CAUTION: Before turning on the computer, replace all screws and ensure that  no  stray  screws  remain  inside  the  computer.  Failure  to  do  so  may result in damage to the computer.

    Removing the Brackets
    Follow the instructions in “Before You Begin” on page 1. 6.
    Remove the battery pack (see “Removing the Battery Pack” on page 2. 11).
    Remove the center control cover (see “Removing the Center Control Cover” 3. on page 33).
    Remove the keyboard (see “Removing the Keyboard” on page 4. 38).
    Loosen the four captive screws that secure the left and right brackets to the 5. computer base.
    Lift the left and right brackets off the computer.6. 
    Replacing the Brackets
    Replace the left and right brackets on the computer base.1. 
    Tighten the four captive screws that secure the left and right brackets to the 2. computer base.
    Replace the keyboard (see “Replacing the Keyboard” on page 3. 39).
    Replace the center control cover (see “Replacing the Center Control Cover” 4. on page 35).
    Replace the battery pack (see “Replacing the Battery Pack” on page 5. 11). 
    CAUTION: Before turning on the computer, replace all screws and ensure that  no  stray  screws  remain  inside  the  computer.  Failure  to  do  so  may result in damage to the computer.

    Removing the Magnesium Cover
    Follow the instructions in “Before You Begin” on page 1. 6.
    Remove the battery pack (see “Removing the Battery Pack” on page 2. 11).
    Remove the center control cover (see “Removing the Center Control Cover” 3. on page 33).
    Remove the keyboard (see “Removing the Keyboard” on page 4. 38).
    Remove the palm rest (see “Removing the Palm Rest” on page 5. 42).
    Disconnect the antenna cables from the respective Mini-Cards and remove 6. these cables from their routing guides.
    Disconnect the display cable and the camera cable from the respectiv
