    CHAPTER 12: MAGNESIUM COVER 
    Replacing the Magnesium Cover
    Replace the magnesium cover on the computer base.1. 
    Replace the ten screws that secure the magnesium cover to the computer 2. base.
    Replace the left and right brackets (see “Replacing the Brackets” on page 3. 47).
    Route the Mini-Card antenna cables into the routing guides and connect 4. them to the respective connectors. 
    Connect the display cable and the camera cable to the respective system 5. board connectors.
    Replace the palm rest (see “Replacing the Palm Rest” on page 6. 44).
    Replace the keyboard (see “Replacing the Keyboard” on page 7. 39).
    Replace the center control cover (see “Replacing the Center Control Cover” 8. on page 35).
    Replace the battery pack (see “Replacing the Battery Pack” on page 9. 11). 
    CAUTION: Before turning on the computer, replace all screws and ensure that  no  stray  screws  remain  inside  the  computer.  Failure  to  do  so  may result in damage to the computer.
    Remove the left and right brackets (see “Removing the Brackets” on 8. page 47).
    Remove the ten screws that secure the magnesium cover to the 9. computer base.
    Lift the magnesium cover off the computer.10.

    Display Assembly
    Removing the Display Assembly
    Follow the instructions in “Before You Begin” on page 1. 6.
    Remove the battery pack (see “Removing the Battery Pack” on page 2. 11).
    Remove the center control cover (see “Removing the Center Control Cover” 3. on page 33).
    Remove the keyboard (see “Removing the Keyboard” on page 4. 38).
    Remove the palm rest (see “Removing the Palm Rest” on page 5. 42).
    Remove the left and right brackets (see “Removing the Brackets” on 6. page 47).
    Remove the magnesium cover (see “Removing the Magnesium Cover” 7. on page 50).
    Display

    CAUTION: Only a certified service technician should perform repairs on your computer. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell™ is not covered by your warranty. 
    CAUTION:  To  help  prevent  damage  to  the  system  board,  remove  the main  battery  (see  “Removing  the  Battery  Pack”  on  page 11)  before working inside the computer.
    CAUTION:  To  avoid  damage  to  the  display,  you  must  not  disassemble your Edge-to-Edge display assembly in the field.

    Bend the display assembly towards the computer base at a 45-degree angle 9. and lift the display assembly off the computer.

    Remove the four screws (two from each hinge) that secure the display 8. assembly to the computer base.

    Align the screw holes on the display hinges with the computer base.1. 
    Replace the four screws (two on each hinge) that secure the display 2. assembly to the computer base.
    Replace the magnesium cover (see “Replacing the Magnesium Cover” on 3. page 51).
    Replace the left and right brackets (see “Replacing the Brackets” on page 4. 47).
    Replace the palm rest (see “Replacing the Palm Rest” on page 5. 44).
    Replace the keyboard (see “Replacing the Keyboard” on page 6. 39).
    Replace the center control cover (see “Replacing the Center Control Cover” 7. on page 35).
    Replace the battery pack (see “Replacing the Battery Pack” on page 8. 11).

    Removing the Display Back Cover
    Follow the instructions in “Before You Begin” on page 1. 6.
    Remove the battery pack (see “Removing the Battery Pack” on page 2. 11).
    Remove the center control cover (see “Removing the Center Control Cover” 3. on page 33).
    Remove the keyboard (see “Removing the Keyboard” on page 4. 38).
    Remove the palm rest (see “Removing the Palm Rest” on page 5. 42).
    Remove the left and right brackets (see “Removing the Brackets” on 6. page 47).
    Remove the magnesium cover (see “Removing the Magnesium Cover” on 7. page 50).
    Remove the display assembly (see “Removing the Display Assembly” on 8. page 53).
    Remove the two screws that secure the display back cover door to the 9. display assembly.

    Slide the display back cover door out and lift it off the display assembly.10.

    Disconnect the AlienHead cable from the connector.12.

    Replacing the Display Back Cover
    Align the display back cover with the back of the display assembly and slide 1. it into position.
    Connect the AlienHead cable to the connector.2. 
    Replace the two screws that secure the display back cover with the display 3. assembly.
    Slide the display back cover door in place.4. 
    Turn the display assembly over and replace the two screws that secure the 5. display back cover door to the display assembly.
    Replace the display assembly (see “Replacing the Display Assembly” on 6. page 55).
    Replace the magnesium cover (see “Replacing the Magnesium Cover” on 7. page 51).
    Replace the left and right brackets (see “Replacing the Brackets” on page 8. 47).
    Replace the palm rest (see “Replacing the Palm Rest” on page 9. 44).
    Replace the keyboard (see “Replacing the Keyboard” on page 10. 39).
    Replace the center control cover (see “Replacing the Center Control Cover” 11. on page 35).
    Replace the battery pack (see “Replacing the Battery Pack” on page 12. 11).

    Lift the top of the AlienHead board and slide the bottom portion down to 12. detach it from the tab that holds it in place.
    Lift the AlienHead board off the display back cover.13.

    Align the AlienHead board with the tab on the display back cover and slide it 1. into position.
    Replace the screw that secures the AlienHead board to the display back 2. cover.
